Visitant Professor of the University of Granada (Spain), the Metodista University of S.Paulo, the Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, and the Federal University of Santa Maria (Brazil), and free professor in Masters at several portuguese universities; It has also participated in several juries of doctoral degrees in Universities in Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Belgium and Sweden.. Director of 21 Master and 8 Doctoral concluded dissertations. Integrated the Commission for the External Evaluation of the University Graduations in Psychology in Portugal (2005). Coordinated the Commission to elaborate the programmes of the discipline of Psychology for the Basic and Secondary Education in Portugal (2006). 7 Brief history and presentation This research group origin was the Research Center in Psychology of the University of Algarve (CUIP), founded in 2000; it includes all researchers in Psychology of the University of Algarve (n=43) Neverthless, there are some other research groups of the CUIP, the main ones are the group of Health and well-being in educational and and the group of Cognitive Neurosciences Because CUIP hadn t dimension to be a Research Center sponsored by the Science and Technology Foundation (FCT), some of the members of the CUIP, with better CV, integrated IPCDVS (n=14): - 8 in the Health and well being in educational and research group - 5 in the Cognitive Neurosciences research group - 1 in the Cognition, Emotion, Learning and Career Development research group The specific origin of the research team in Health and well-being in educational and was the Master in Health Psychology of the University of Algarve; in master dissertations, some researches are about the topic well-being, in an action-research perspective, and was done or directed by the members of this group

9 Research questions, hypotheses, conceptual framework The main research question is how people and groups can get health and well-being, in particular at educational and professional contexts (schools and hospitals) One of the main hypothesis is that the training of competences, such as stress management, time management, team work, assertiveness, coping and resilience, is one of the ways to promote health and well-being The conceptual framework that better fits to this line of studies is the Health Psychology theories, and the Positive Psychology perspective

10 Main research designs In this line of studies we are using a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as a combination of longitudinal and transversal methods As this research groups emphasize the intervention to promote health and well-being, some of the studies use action-research design

22 Graduate training Among several indicators of scientific productivity, it is to point out that 11 concluded masters dissertations and 5 doctor degrees was completed during the period, in the scope of the projects accomplished by this team. In 2007, were concluded 12 masters dissertations and 3 doctor thesis. In January 2008, 32 master students and 13 doctoral students are being supervised by the Ph.D. members of the research group. Some Post-Ph.D. are happening now in the University of Algarve.

23 Most significant presentations In its total, between 2003 and 2006, the member s team presented several dozens of communications in scientific meetings, national and international. 27 Networks and links to the community All the research members of this group will be involved in community intervention activities where the research knowledge is applied, namelly in schools, hospitals, and in some other public and private institutions.

28 Future research The research works will give continuity to the goals that were defined to the period of 2003/2006, using both transversal and longitudinal approaches, and always as possible, an investigation-action method, in order to promote health and well-being, in various educational and professional contexts.
