1 CACSSS Operational Plan 2013/2014 update on progress - FOR INFORMATION CEMC Agenda Item 8(a) 17 June 2014 Project Manager Risk ID Report to CEMC Enhance learning, teaching and the student experience, by enriching the full range of the research led learning and CACSSS 3 an innovative teaching agenda CACSSS 6 1 Vice Head of College (Teaching and Learning) 1. Map in consultation with the College the range of research led teaching and learning and develop initiatives to extend undergraduate research including conferences and publication. -Undergraduate teaching and learning paper being developed within the Teaching and Learning Committee. -New U/G programmes in 2013/2014: BA (Geography & Archaeology); BA (International); BA (Film & Screen Media) -Approval granted for new U/G programmes in 2014/2015: BA (Digital Humanities and Information Technology); BA (Criminology); BA Economics (Transformational Learning); BA (English) 2. Create an undergraduate skills, attributes and employability framework including placement. Placement module (PX2000) is well advanced with over 50 students placed in 2013/14; expect to place 123 in 2014/15, and 150 in 2015/ Introduce the new Personal Mentor Scheme. CMents College Mentor Scheme launched in 2013/ Plan and implement supports for the student learning experience to improve retention. First Year Working Group established. 5. Enhance digital literacy by extending blended learning opportunities and options on Digital Humanities. Eight Digital Champions supported to develop undergraduate modules; At postgraduate level three MA programmes supported and accepted by IGOG MA Digital Cultures (Dr. Orla Murphy) MA Gaelic Literature (Prof. Pádraig Ó Macháin) MA Digital Music and Media Composition (Dr. Jeffrey Weeter) Page 1 of 5

2 2 Vice Head of College (Research) Foster research, both individual and collaborative at the forefront of knowledge, and, by supporting teaching and learning through research, to bring the knowledge generated to bear on the well-being of society. CACSSS 7 CACSSS Map in consultation with the entire College emerging and potential areas of research strength as part of the development of the College research environment. Preliminary report completed; consultation with Schools on strategic directions and priorities identified Develop plans to meet research infrastructure needs in the light of research mapping Outline plan drafted in the light of consultation with Schools Develop targeted supports to encourage large-scale research bids from individuals and groups within and across the research range of the College, and also spanning research questions on a wider interdisciplinary and crossdisciplinary basis Major Application Support Fund implemented; dedicated support to PIs and applicants following the launch of Horizon Plan and implement strategic supports that engage with developments in national and European research policy and funding. Development of engagement and consultation platform for Horizon 2020 through the Irish Humanities Alliance and the Irish Social Science Platform 3 Director of Cultural Projects Director of Cultural Projects & Head of School of Music and Theatre Enhance and extend relationships with the city and external communities, building upon the University s significant historical contribution to the cultural and artistic life of Cork and Ireland, by developing research, practice and learning in the creative arts 1. Organize an externally facilitated workshop on the development of public engagement activities (service learning/community based-learning, community-based research, volunteering and student-led engagement) in CACSSS. Brief developed for the Creative Hub in collaboration with CACSSS Budget approved to support activities related to the development of the Creative Campus (CEMC 19/3/14). 4 Associate Dean for Internationalisation Develop and promote critical global citizenship through local/global relationships, creating a globally aware campus based on inclusiveness, international competence and reciprocal learning CACSSS 2 CACSSS 10 Specifically to develop a strategy for internationalisation including: 1. a review of best practice; 2. a survey of CASSS staff and students; 3. comparative analysis with three other Colleges; 4. a template for holistic internationalisation which includes curricular review; staff/student mobility; policy review; intercultural support and diversity promotion. Appointment of Associate Dean for Internationalisation New BA (International), including Module LL2108 Crossing Borders: Cultures and Societies Introduction of Asian Studies and Portuguese to BA curriculum; 2+2 BA (Hons) Liberal Arts with Chinese Studies (with Shanghai University); 3+1 Diploma in Arts and Social Sciences Two HEA Government of Ireland International Scholarships to recruit students from Brazil and India Promotion: Joint appointment of a new UCC Local Area Officer for North America (Caela Provost) International Studies Abroad (ISA) - key US recruiter of US study abroad candidates 5 Head of College Develop an infrastructural master plan, to support medium- to long-term needs in teaching, learning and research Complete an audit of existing space in the College. CACSSS 11 Audit of existing office space in College completed Additional teaching and office space secured for Film & Screen Media in the Windle Building Brief developed for the Creative Hub in collaboration with CACSSS Page 3 of 5

4 6 Associate Dean for Internationalisation Underpin the Financial Basis of the College by focusing on the priority areas of income generation as identified by the Income Generating Group Non EU Students: Actively promote modules on offer in teaching period two to increase income for 2013/2014. Identify new partners for JYA Students. Develop new semester options based on interdisciplinary thematic pathways for visiting students. CACSSS 1 CACSSS 4 CACSSS 5 Consolidation of existing relationships (e.g. Quinnipiac) and engagement with potential new partners Co-funded joint appointment of a new UCC Local Area Officer for North America (Caela Provost) Visits to China resulting in potential to develop 3+1; 3+1+1; 2+2 programmes New semester options based on interdisciplinary thematic pathways developed for visiting students Director of Cultural Projects Advancement: In collaboration with CUF develop a comprehensive fundraising programme which includes setting fundraising targets and objectives in line with strategic objectives. CACSSS projects identified in association with Alumni Office to support fund raising (Our Future/Your Future) Postgraduate: Develop and implement a focused recruitment strategy for EU and non EU markets with a particular emphasis on digital marketing. Head of Grad School International Studies Abroad (ISA) - key US recruiter of US study abroad candidates - to advertise a suite of 10 Taught MA Programmes in the American market Postgraduate Programme Promotion Events and Open Days on & off campus Springboard successful programmes in CACSSS: Two Government of Ireland International Scholarships to recruit students from Brazil and India PG Recruitment Fund to Support Programme Promotional Materials/Activities, 26 recipients, total cost 10,000 Revision of Taught MA Programme Brochure to facilitate thematic promotion of programmes Information Sessions for CACSSS Staff: Devising a Postgraduate Recruitment Strategy for Taught Programmes: Information and Feedback Session 22/11/13, facilitated by Michelle Nelson, Graduate Studies Office; How to Market Your Course 3/4/2014, facilitated by Donna O Driscoll, Marketing Communications.
