Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAP) Standard 1 Assessment Indicator (write out) 1.1 Employs traditional and alternative assessment strategies and uses the data to modify interventions. Detailed description of assignment or Check one or both activity Course Clinical Candidates will develop competence in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of a norm-referenced test (KTEA, WRAT, etc. ) Candidates will interview a psychologist and/or counselor and find out how they use standardized and non-standardized testing techniques to improve student learning. Type of instrument used Assessment Rubric Assessment Rubric Candidates will analyze a live group process in the community for the type of therapeutic skills that will lead to effective learning outcomes. MHS 5500 Assessment Rubric 1.2- Interprets data from various informal and standardized assessment procedures. Candidates will use technology to help students gather awareness of planning, finances, courses, and academic programs through myplan.com. Candidates will study a test manual and identify the different types of statistics reported. Candidates will then make an annotated set of cards with definitions and illustrations of the statistics identified. MHS 5340 Assessment Rubric Annotated Card Rubric Candidates will evaluate classroom guidance lessons after each session and will include the evaluative measure on all lesson plans. Lesson Plan Rubric Candidates will develop a research paper utilizing APA style on the issues of high-stakes testing in today s schools: Pros and Cons. Research Paper Rubric Page 1 of 11

2 1.3 Guides Students in developing and maintaining individual portfolios. Candidates will demonstrate proficiency in e- portfolios by developing and maintaining an e- Portfolio demonstrating the 12 FEAPs and other professional standards. Rubric 2 Communication 2.1 Uses effective communication techniques with students and other stakeholders. Candidates will participate in role playing activities and peers and professor will provide quantitative feedback on effective communication skills. MHS 5400 Observation Rubric Candidates will maintain a reflective log that highlights their engagements and interactions with students during field clinical experiences. Candidates will communicate results of standardized tests to all relevant parties, i.e., students, parents, staff, administration. SDS 6830 Reflective Rubric Candidates will summarize and submit daily observations in a journal and provide weekly updates to the University Supervisor. SDS 6830 Journal Rubric Weekly Rubric Candidates will present oral and written reports of career modules to students and other stakeholders. MHS 5340 Oral and Written Report Rubric 2.2 Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Candidates will apply Freud and Erikson s stages of development to self and others. Candidates will create a file of written communications (letters to parents and/or teachers, s, newsletters, memos to students, etc.) that request permission or provides information about a particular subject. MHS 6050 Oral Presentation Rubric PowerPoint Presentation Page 2 of 11

3 Candidates will be given a sample case study of a student that contains test scores, school grades, familial background, health and social life, hobbies and interests, etc. Candidates must summarize the facts of the case in a position paper and orally present a capsule summary of the student s achievements and aptitude. Case Study Rubric Candidates will attend IEP Team Meetings as a participant-observer; and have reflective discussions with the site supervisor as to policy and procedures that govern the IEP process. Reflective Rubric 3 Continuous Improvement 3.1- Uses data and reflects on data to improve professional practice. Candidate will write a position paper on one of the issues related to school testing programs. Position Paper Rubric Candidates must attend local, state and/or national conferences/meetings to optimize their learning and to learn about emergent trends in the counseling profession. MHS 5500 Conference Program Candidates will develop a professional development plan and identify major theories they can apply to assist them in reaching their goal throughout the semester. Professional Development Plan Rubric Candidates will develop two counseling activities which will be implemented during the observation process by the University Supervisor. Discussion Board Rubric Rubric Candidates will design, develop and implement a project from their field clinical experiences that identifies a problem and offers possible solutions that is presented to the school for Power Point Research Rubric Page 3 of 11

4 further implementation. Candidate will meet with the site supervisor on a weekly basis to discuss their observations and any queries they may have about the field experience. SDS 6830 SDS Participates in professional development and other learning activities to increase his or her professional development. 4 Critical Thinking 4.1- Identifies strategies, materials, and technologies that expand critical thinking. Candidates must join at least one local, state and/or national professional organizations because of the excellent resources they offer, professional development and peer networking. Candidates must attend as many in-service workshops and training sessions as possible during their practicum and internship experiences. These workshops provide timely information and are great networking tools. Candidates will demonstrate the use of higher order thinking abilities through article critiques related to current trends in guidance and counseling Membership Card and/or Certificate Article Critique Rubric Candidates will identify strategies to expand students thinking abilities through the development of a group process. MHS 5500 Rubric Candidates will apply theoretical framework to case studies. Critical Thinking Rubric Candidates will develop a lesson plan on facilitating students use of critical and creative thinking skills. Lesson Plan Rubric Candidates will write a consultative project that focuses on the school and parental involvement. Paper should utilize all steps in the consultation process. 5 5 Diversity 5.1- Provides a range of activities that accommodate learning styles, abilities, cultural, and linguistic diversity. Candidates will develop an ethnic/cultural selfexploration paper in which they will explore the impact of their ethnicity and other cultural influences on their identity, worldview, and role as a counselor working with culturally different students. MHS 6420 Ethnic/Cultural Paper Rubric Candidates will interview school guidance counselors ad provide an oral report on diversity in the schools interviewed. Oral Report Rubric Candidates will identify personal biases and social stereotypes that are held regarding various ethnic groups. MHS 5428 Pass/Fail Candidates will identify the role of family in developing and maintaining learned behaviors. Rubric 5.2- Practice skills and gain knowledge needed in a diverse society. Candidates will design, develop and present a 4-6 page paper on the diverse elements of the school population and the various social services and other outreach programs that are a part of the school community. Candidates will choose an urban, suburban or rural settling that serves a culturally different population and are expected to contribute a minimum of 5 hours of service learning. MHS 6600 Demographic Report Rubric Service Learning Form Candidates will demonstrate knowledge of differences and similarities between and within cultures, and how culture affects psychological, familial, social and academic functioning. MHS 6420 Lesson Plans Rubric Presentation Rubric Candidates will demonstrate knowledge of diverse issues in assessment. Rubric Page 5 of 11

6 6 Ethics 6.1- Meets expectations of professional behavior and demeanor. Candidates will develop lesson plans to ensure that multicultural and ESOL components are included. Candidate will research recent court decisions and other legal sources to determine what rulings have been made regarding guidance activities for students in school. They should look for court decisions that affect students and parents rights. All findings should be written in a 4-6 page paper utilizing APA style. TSL 5700 Lesson Plan Rubric MHS 5780 Legal Case Review Rubric Candidates will interview two school counselors and/or school psychologists and query them about ethical crises and/or dilemmas they have faced as school counselors Interview Questions Candidates will review the Florida and American Counseling Association s Code of Ethics. A copy of the Ethical Guidelines will be discussed with the Site Supervisor and signed by the candidate indicating strict adherence to the guidelines. Code of Ethics 6.2- Adheres to relevant and professional Codes of Ethics. Candidates will interview two counselors and ask about the most important legal issues pertaining to the practice of school counseling. Findings should be written in a 4-6 page paper. MHS 5780 Research Paper Rubric Candidate will analyze FERPA guidelines and its implications for the school counselor s role. Analysis Rubric Candidates will obtain five counseling related descriptions of moral, ethical or legal dilemmas, analyzing each situation against the Florida Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida. 7 7 Human Development and Learning 7.1- Varies activities to accommodate different learning needs, developmental levels, experiential backgrounds, linguistic development and cultural heritage. Candidates will facilitate human growth and learning by focusing on developing skills and knowledge for educational and preventive roles, as opposed to the more traditional remedial and therapeutic roles. Oral Presentation Rubric Role Play Rubric 7.2- Shows knowledge of learning and development theories. Candidates will choose a developmental life stage, observe this stage and write a reflection paper. Candidate will develop a mini-autobiography to examine the relevance of their family on their personal development and cultural heritage. They will use a genogram and counseling theories to analyze their life, MHS 6420 Lesson Plan Rubric Autobiography Rubric Course Assessment Candidates will write a paper on their family and any familial issues such as substance abuse, suicide, divorce, etc. and trace the origins through a genogram.. MHS 6430 Genogram Rubric 8 Content 8.1- Demonstrates subject matter knowledge. Candidates will read and analyze case studies to identify the appropriate diagnosis and treatment plans utilizing an evidence-based practice, when possible. MHS 6600 Case Study Rubric 8.2- Communicates knowledge of subject matter by using the materials and technologies of the field. Candidate will develop skills in addressing ethical issues in research with ethnic minority and poor children and parents. Candidates will read current (<5 years) refereed journal articles to gain knowledge of school counseling strategies. Candidates will observe a teacher or counselor and note how the environment fosters learning and increases student motivation. Candidates will utilize a reward system during classroom guidance where student behavior is defined, evaluated and rewarded Develops an environment conducive to learning. Candidates will provide twenty (20) hours of service to organizations or schools to observe how therapists/guidance counselors work collaboratively with other school personnel. Candidates will create an environment where student attendance and discipline are monitored. Candidates will value human diversity and help students learn to value one another. MHS 5200 MHS 6420 Service Learning Rubric Environment Rubric Candidates will utilize ongoing assessment to identify students strengths and weaknesses. Assessment Rubric Course Assessment 10 Planning Plans activities with identified performance and learning outcomes. Candidates will keep a log of their weekly activities. SDS 6830 SDS 6830 Supervisor s Evaluation Research Paper Rubric Candidates will research appropriate counseling themes to present to students that will motivate them to maximize their performance in school. SDS 6830 Supervisor s Evaluation Research Paper Rubric E-Portfolio Plans activities that help participant develop knowledge through a variety of strategies. Candidates will identify students strengths and weaknesses, engage students in learning activities and employ strategies to re-engage others in the learning process. A summary of these actions will be provided in a paper. Position Paper Rubric Course Assessment Candidates will conduct workshops to help students learn organizational skills and good study habits. 11 Role of the Counselor Communicates and cooperates with colleagues and communities. Candidate will interview school counselors in the field to determine ways in which they collaborate to identify students needs. Interview Questions Candidates will spend a day shadowing a guidance counselor to observe and analyze counselors roles with others in enhancing the educational experience of students. Candidate will be evaluated on all of the counseling outcomes appropriate to the discipline and must receive a rating of 3 or better in all areas. Supervisor s Evaluation 12 Technology Uses instructional and other electronic tools to gather information. Candidate will interview a guidance counselor to discuss how the current trends in assessment impact the counselor s responsibility in light of the course content. Candidates will demonstrate the knowledge of technology by placing required reflections and artifacts in their Live-Text portfolio. Interview Questions Rubric Candidates will develop two videotapes in which they utilize their counseling theory with a student they have been counseling in a school setting. Videotape Rubric Candidates will be required to monitor students attendance and discipline utilizing the computer. Page 10 of 11

MHS 6600 Technology Rubric PowerPoint Rubric Candidates will send to administration a copy of a PowerPoint Presentation that was designed, developed and researched during their field clinical experiences on a relevant topic of interest Uses technology in a professional role. Candidates will complete a career exploration with their students using the website MHS 5340 Careers Rubric Candidate will utilize technology to identify colleges admissions criteria: GPA, SAT score, class rank, etc. to assist students in making appropriate application.
