4 PROLOGUE Osvaldo Casa was born on 1924, fifth out of eight siblings in Massa Lubrense, a small fishing village near Naples in southern Italy. He grew up to be a charming man, with an unbridled passion for food; that passion was equaled when he laid eyes on Agata, who became the love of his life. Osvaldo quickly found out that Agata was an excellent cook and came from a long line of restaurateurs who had passed down their trade for many generations. Soon after their first meeting, Osvaldo and Agata got married and spent many happy years hosting the most exquisite dinner parties during which they served the most delicious pizzas anyone had ever tasted. The year 1959 was very important in the life of Osvaldo and Agata, as their first son Giovanni was born. On the same year, Osvaldo decided to open a small neighborhood pizzeria as a gift to Agata. Agata decided to dedicate her pizzeria to Queen Margherita of Savoy and named her pizzeria Margherita after her. Margherita was the first pizza ever known, named in honor of Queen Margherita of Savoy. As Giovanni grew up, his mother realized that he inherited her passion for cooking and his father s love for good food. So she decided to join him to her world and to pass all her secrets to him. Giovanni was a very fast learner and soon became a great chef. Years later, Giovanni decided to share his mother s recipes with the world, to recreate the authentic taste of her cooking, the flavors that accompanied him throughout his childhood and the essence of his home. The first Margherita pizzeria del quartiere dal 1959 opened in Lebanon in July 2008 in Gemayzeh, rue Gouraud.
