4 STABLE Protocol upon request 4.1 Box stalls and standing stalls Box stalls and standing stalls are sufficiently large for the horses living there (average-sized horse 10 x 10 (3 m X 3 m)); Box stalls and standing stalls in good condition; Box stalls and standing stalls are clean; Box stalls and standing stalls are well-lit during the day (natural or artificial light); Box stalls and standing stalls are equipped with automatic water bowls or buckets and a feed tub for each horse; Box stalls and standing stalls are equipped with an efficient latch system; Box stalls are equipped with grates or bars on the front wall and door; Box stalls have a flat surface which will not cause injury (cement without bedding is not an acceptable surface); Box stall or enclosure available for isolation or can be rapidly set up; If an unprotected automatic cleaning system is present in the stalls, a protocol is provided. 5 4.5 Ventilation Concentration of ammonia in the air must not exceed 25 parts per million; Stable has adequate ventilation (at least one fan equipped with a rheostat); Proof of another type of ventilation. 4.6 Ceiling height Stable has a minimum ceiling height of 9 (3 m). 4.7 Lighting Buildings have sufficient indoor lighting to see any object or obstacle after sunset; An appropriate and functional emergency lighting system is installed near regular and emergency exits (except breeding farm); At least one switch is installed near each entry door used by customers and personnel. 4.8 Signage (except breeding farm) Names of rooms are posted; Emergency exits are posted; Warnings are posted; Emergency telephone numbers are posted near the telephone; Location of washrooms is indicated near the entrance; Emergency lighting is located near the telephone. 4.9 Pricing, payment and refund policy (except breeding farm) Pricing, payment and refund policy for each service is available to customers or clearly posted. 6 4.10 Protection from rodents and insects Protocols are installed in order to reduce sites where insects may reproduce, to protect horses from overwhelming insects and to control rodents. HORSES AND PONIES Copies of invoices and letters from veterinarian and farrier 5.1 Condition of livestock Horses are in good physical condition; Feet are trimmed; No evidence of wounds, or wounds are treated; Proof of regular care is provided, including deworming program and tooth care (letters or copies of invoices from veterinarian and farrier); A record is kept of care administered to each horse; School horses and rental horses are clean. 5.2 Quality of feed Feed is of good quality (sufficient quantity); Hay is stored in a location allowing quality to be conserved; Grain is stored in a clean, closed container, sacks of grain are stored safely and protected from rodents; Clean drinking water is available and in sufficient quantity to fulfill daily requirements; Salt is available. Declaration C 5.3 Diversity of stock used for lessons or rental (except discovery farm, competitive training centre, breeding farm and training centre for national level competitors) At least 3 horses or ponies available for riding school and equestrian tourism training centre; At least 5 ponies available for pony-club; At least 5 horses available for trail riding or equestrian tourism centre; Stock is sufficiently varied for all categories of customers; Horses or ponies are at least 3 years of age. EXERCISE RINGS AND PADDOCKS 6.1 Paddock for horses kept outdoors Description of operations Min. height 9 Min. height 9 7 GUIDE PRATIQUE D'ÉVALUATION Number of horses permanently kept outdoors; Number of horses turned out at the same time in a paddock; Size of paddock is equivalent to a minimum of 2 to 2.5 times the height of the horse in square metres, but it is recommended to plan a total surface area permitting the horse to gallop (if at pasture without additional feed, 43,560 sq. feet (4,047 sq. m) per horse); Paddock fences are solid (Code 2.1.4), in good condition, safe and clean; Material (wood: 2" X 6" (5.08 cm X cm) or 4" X 4" (10.16 cm X cm) minimum), (wire: squares 2" (5.08 cm) large by 4" (10.16 cm), (electric wire), (cord with rupture point every 16 (4.8 m) maximum), (barbed wire prohibited), (temporary electric fence prohibited) and (others, to be approved); Doors are a minimum 4 (1.22 m) wide, equipped with a latch system preventing animals from opening them;
8 When several boarded horses are turned out together, a solid door or a buffer zone is required. This may be inside the paddock or may cover the entire site; For horses kept permanently outdoors: the paddock must be equipped with a shelter a minimum of 9 (3 m) in height. It may be natural or constructed. In this case, it must possess at least: 1 wall, a roof, and one or several openings measuring at least 4 (1.2 m) per horse (5 horses = 20 (6.1 m) total openings. Feed tubs and water bowls must be installed outside the shelter; For horses kept permanently outdoors, the paddock must be equipped with at least one automatic water bowl (with floater) or with one or several water buckets with a total capacity equal to the daily water requirements for each horse; Paddock footing is free from protruding objects, materials or other; Horses must have access to salt. 6.2 Riding rings (except breeding farm excluding those used for breaking in colts) As a guideline, for horses we are speaking of a minimum of 60 X 100 (18.3 m X 30.5 m); As a guideline, we are speaking of a minimum de 50 X 50 (15.2 m X 15.2 m); Fences are clean and in good condition, with posts on the outside; Material (wood: 2" X 6" (5.08 cm X cm) or 4" X 4" (10.16 cm X cm) minimum), (wire: squares 2" (5.08 cm) large by 4" (10.16 cm) maximum, (cord with rupture point every 16 (4.8 m) maximum), (barbed wire prohibited), and (others, to be approved); Minimum height: horses: 4 (1.2 m); ponies : 3 (0.9 m); horses and ponies: 4 (1.2 m). Construction: horses or ponies: at least 2 horizontal elements placed inside the posts, of which the first is installed equal to the top end of the posts and the second must be installed so that the distance to the ground at the lowest edge of the second element is not more than 17" (44 cm) for ponies and 28" (70 cm) for horses. Horses and ponies: at least three horizontal elements installed inside the posts, of which the first is installed equal to the top end of the posts and the last must be installed so that the distance to the ground at the lowest edge of the third element is not more than 17 (44 cm). In this case, the centre element could be made with a different material; Doors open easily; Footing is non-skid, flat and free of rocks; In corners, up to a distance of 6 (1.8 m) from the corner, it is acceptable to store material; Riding rings are free of any and all material that is not necessary for teaching or practice (except for jumps which must be arranged in a way that does not impede riders when not in use). 8 GUIDE PRATIQUE D'ÉVALUATION
9 Min. height 4 Max. height 28 Min. height 3 Max. height 17 Min. height 4 Max. height 17 Fence for horses Fence for ponies Fence for horses and ponies 6.3 If there is an indoor arena, it must satisfy the following criteria: OP Minimum height 13 (4 m); As a guideline, a common size is 60 X 120 (18.3 m X 36.6 m) for horses and 60 X 60 (18.3 m X 18.3 m) for ponies; The arena may have smooth walls without protrusions to a total height of at least 7 (2.1 m) and/or be equipped with a kickboard or fence to a minimum height of 4 (1.2 m) allowing horses to be kept at a distance of at least 6" (15 cm) from the arena walls to a height of at least 7 (2.1 m). Protuberances of more than one inch such as window frames, garage doors, grates, etc., must be corrected to avoid any possible injury to riders and horses. A layout which distances horses from the wall is preferable. For openings of more than 8" (20.3 cm), a protection must be put in place (fence, cord, etc.); Doors open easily; Arena is free of any and all material that is not necessary for teaching or practice (except for jumps which must be arranged in a way that does not impede riders when not in use). 10 6.4 Permanent and temporary observation areas (indoor arena or outdoor riding ring) OP Observation area for spectators is safe and comfortable, installed behind a rigid and solid protection (kick-board, fence, grate) or in an adjacent room with a window. For special occasions, when the centre receives a larger group of people, it is acceptable to define the area with cones at least 24 (61 cm) high, placed at 3 (0.9 m) intervals from each other, and at least 6 (1.8 m) from the spectators. A cord with ribbons placed at intervals of 3 (0.9 m) could also be used. This is a temporary measure used only for the duration of the event. 11 6.5 Departure and arrival area (for equestrian tourism centres for short and long trail rides and trail riding and equestrian tourism training centre) Area is free of cement or asphalt; Departure area is sufficiently large (at least 300 sq. ft. (28 sq. m) per horse) and defined on at least three sides; Stable door is placed in such a way as to prevent horses returning to the stable if it is open. 6.6 Access ramp (therapeutic riding centre) OP Access ramp or mounting block is in good condition; Placed on the track, the mounting block must not have protruding parts that could impede horses or riders moving on the track. The ramp must be closed when not in use. TEACHING AND TRAIL RIDING EQUIPMENT 7.1 Tack (except breeding farm) Tack is clean, in good condition and free of emergency repairs; Each horse has its own bridle; Number of saddles corresponds to the number of horses; otherwise protocol is provided. 12 SUPERVISION AND PROGRAMMING 8.1 Training of personnel Verification of the good standing status of all personnel who have dealings with customers using information found in the descriptive files. Declaration D 8.2 Responsibilities of personnel and the Équi-Qualité code of ethics Owner s declaration stating that he/she and his/her personnel agree to respect all requirements in the Équi-Qualité program at all times. The same goes for the code of ethics. The establishment must have an adequate number of first aid kits (the time required to reach a kit must be less than 5 minutes). Definition: NOTE THE NUMBER OF ITEMS PRESENT IN THE KIT Kit: First aid kit consisting of a protective case divided into compartments to store the first aid material required in the present rulebook, and on the outside of which there is a cross large enough to be recognizable. The first aid kit must contain the following items: A first aid manual approved by an organization recognized in first aid material; A list indicating the telephone numbers for ambulance, CLSC or 2 doctors, hospital, police, fire department; Paper and pencil; Thermometer; Tweezers; 12 safety pins (assorted sizes); Bandage scissors; 25 sterile adhesive bandages (25 mm x 75 mm), individually wrapped; 25 sterile gauze squares (101.6 mm x mm), individually wrapped; 4 rolls sterile gauze bandage (50 mm x 9 m), individually wrapped; 4 rolls sterile gauze bandage (101.6 mm x 9 m), individually wrapped; 6 triangular bandages; 4 sterile compressive bandages (101.6 mm x mm), individually wrapped; 1 roll adhesive tape (25 mm x 9 m); 2 elastic bandages; Mild soap; Bottle of eye drops or wash or container for rinsing eyes; 25 antiseptic wipes, individually wrapped; 2 insect repellants; Plastic bags; Ice or equivalent chemical product; Disposable latex gloves; Resuscitation mask.
