1 Industrial Engineering Graduate Options Motivation: The rearrangement of industrial engineering graduate level courses into IE Graduate Options enables industrial engineering graduate students to have transcript visible areas of specialization within the maj. Histy: Histically, to distinguish areas of specialization within the broader discipline of industrial engineering, the OSU IE graduate program was divided into four Areas of Concentration: Infmation Systems Engineering (ISE), Advanced Manufacturing (AM), Human Systems Engineering (HSE), and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSE). The OSU IE graduate program, directed by the industrial and manufacturing engineering faculty, requires all IE graduate students to declare both a graduate maj and a graduate min on their programs of study. In der to meet this program requirement while still enabling students the ability to take all of their graduate coursewk within industrial engineering, students were allowed to list their maj as IE with one Area of Concentration and their min as IE with a second Area of Concentration. However, since Areas of Concentration are not transcript visible, the breadth of students knowledge was not adequately reflected. Recently, OSU approved the creation of Graduate Options to enable programs to identify transcript-visible specializations within specific majs. Accding to the OSU Catalog, Graduate Options are f students of a specific maj. An option is one of several distinct variants of course aggregations within a maj that focus on an area of study designed to provide a student with specialized knowledge, competence, and skills while sharing a minimum ce of courses. A graduate option consists of a minimum of 12 designated quarter credits of related course wk (excluding thesis credits), comprised of course wk offered by the sponsing unit as well as by other academic units. The option may be comprised of specific courses, completion of a designated number of credits from a longer list of alternative courses, a combination of specific and alternative course lists. Approved options may be added to a graduate program of study, and approved by the faculty advis(s) and the direct of the sponsing unit. On the program of study, there should be no overlap in course credits between options (the same course cannot be used to satisfy credit requirements in multiple options). When the unit submits the final examination card to validate awarding of the maj to the Graduate School, the unit will also validate that the requirements of the option have been completed. ( This change fmalizes the coursewk f the areas of ISE, AM, HSE, and MSE into IE Graduate Options, so they become transcript visible.

2 Ce IE Program Requirements: The following program level requirements would remain the same: 1) All students must take the following three courses: IE 552, IE 563 (f students without a BS degree in IE), and IE 594 (f MS Thesis/PhD students);, 2) All students must complete a minimum of 18 credits of coursewk f the maj, at least twelve of which will meet the requirements f the one of the IE Grad Option; 3) All students must declare either a min from a program outside of IE a second 12-credit IE Grad Option; 4) PhD students must take IE 512, IE 515, either IE , and either IE 545 IE 570; 5) Students must complete a minimum number of credits as required by their degree program (MEng, 45 credits; MS Non- Thesis, 51 credits; MS Thesis, 45 credits; PhD, 108 credits).
