Educational Aims of the Course To improve a candidate s level of mathematical expertise to the point where they can gain entry to one of the Mathematical MSc courses run by the School (currently the MSc Applied Mathematical, MSc Applied Mathematical with Biological & Ecological Modelling, MSc/Diploma in Actuarial or MSc Financial Mathematics), or to apply for jobs requiring Mathematical and/or Statistical skills at honours level. Understanding, Knowledge and Cognitive Skills 11. The Course provides opportunities for learners to achieve the following outcomes: Subject Mastery On completion of the course the student will have achieved a sufficiently good level of mathematical understanding and knowledge (both in breadth & depth) to enable them to proceed to one of the postgraduate courses mentioned above. Approaches to Teaching and Learning: The student will attend selected undergraduate courses from mainly lecture based learning. However he/she will need self-directed learning throughout the academic year to catch up on areas missed in their first degree. All lecture courses are supported by tutorials which provide the student with the opportunity to increase their problem-solving skills. 13. Assessment Policies: Since the course is based upon a selection of appropriate undergraduate modules the assessment policy is defined by that of the chosen module.
