12 MOUNTAINLAND APPLIED TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE GENERAL INFORMATION MATC Certification and Completion MATC Students are expected to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations of both the College and their specific programs or courses. Detailed information concerning graduation requirements is available in this catalog as part of the corresponding program descriptions. Responsibility for satisfying all graduation requirements rests upon the student. MATC reserves the right to change graduation requirements at any time. Mountainland Applied Technology College confers program certificates upon students who successfully complete all the academic and skill based requirements for the specific program. TYPES OF CERTIFICATES / LICENSURES Certificates and Licensures are needed for careers and jobs that require proof of skill based on knowledge rather than a degree. Certifications and Licensures show that an individual is up to date and competent both in current theory and skills necessary for employment in the specified career field and/or job. This also shows they have met all industry, state, and/or national requirements for employment. NATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS This level of recognition is established in many career fields to help establish a professional standard and code on a national scale. Training programs that lead to a national certification generally require the completion of a national exam and or skill based competencies by an authorized professional body. This type of certification is a professional marker for a person showing the acknowledgement toward a standard of knowledge and understanding in a specified area of study recognized on a national level. While this level of certification represents competencies usually established by a national board of professionals, individual states may also require the completion of other state level exams or certifications in order to practice in the workforce. STATE LICENSURES / CERTIFICATIONS This level of recognition is established as a means to give permission to practice in specified careers. Such licenses or certifications are usually required in order to regulate types of careers or operations that are deemed to involve a high level of specialized skill that may directly or indirectly threaten or be dangerous to a person or the public. This often involves accredited training and examinations, at a state level, which varies greatly for different occupations. INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS Industry certifications are usually skill-specific for a type of process, product, or understanding of unique skills needed for employment or advancement in the workforce. These types of certifications are a designation earned by a person to assure qualification in performing a job or task. Most industry certifications are affiliated with professional associations interested in raising the standards in the workforce and are therefore considered a particularly unbiased barometer of your skills. MATC - PROGRAM CERTIFICATE An official credential issued to a student by a campus registrar (MATC) documenting that the student has completed a program or a predefined subset of a program. 19 ADMISSIONS AND REGISTRATION MOUNTAINLAND APPLIED TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE Practical Nursing (PN) Application Process: Students must be at least 18 years old and have met all required prerequisites before applying for the MATC PN. A point system will be used to facilitate candidate selection. Students need to submit a completed application packet by set due dates to be eligible to enroll. MATC accepts 24 students biannually. PN PROGRAM SESSIONS 2015 Fall Session: August 2015 through May Spring Session: January 2016 through December 2016 (no class during the summer months Jun.-Jul.) 2016 Fall Session: August 2016 through May 2017 PN APPLICATION DEADLINES Applications for the Fall 2015 program start date are due between: March 2, 2015 and May 22, 2015 Applications for the Spring 2016 program start date are due between: August 3, 2015 and October 9, 2015 Applications for the Fall 2016 program start date are due between: March 1, 2016 and May 20, 2016 High School Dental Assistant Application Process: Due to the competitive demand among students in the region for the Dental Assistant, the MATC allocates a specific number of enrollment slots to each high school in the region. Each high school has the responsibility to choose the number of students in order to fill the slots given to them for the MATC Dental Assistant. Therefore, high school students will need to meet with their high school counselor to learn more about the process to be selected for the dental assistant program. Students are chosen by their high school and not MATC to fill each dental slot; the names will be given to the MATC, by a high school counselor to be entered in on the MATC pre-registration list. Being added to the pre-registration list DOES NOT register the student or guarantee enrollment for the MATC Dental Assistant. Each potential student will need to follow the standard admissions process once on the pre-registration list for the program. After completing the admissions process, each student will have to register for the Dental Assistant with MATC and pay their fees for the program. Students can begin registration on April 21, 2015; students will have until May 29, 2015 to complete registration and have all their fees paid. If students have not registered or paid all their fees they will be dropped from the pre-registration list and will have to wait to re-enroll into the program after August 1, 2015 if any seats are still available. After registration for the program, students will not have any other correspondence with MATC until after the program begins in the fall. For more information and concerns please contact: Mark Middlebrook, CHANGE OF REGISTRATION After initial registration, students may modify their schedules by transferring to a new location, dropping, withdrawing, or transferring to a different program/course. TRANSFER OF COURSE WORK A student transferring from another UCAT regional campus, the military, or another institution of Higher Education must meet the admission requirements of the MATC program. Students who transfer and request recognition of outside coursework must provide official transcripts and any other records and/or reports for evaluation. Transfer of acquired competencies and skills will occur after review by and/or demonstration to MATC program instructor(s). PROGRAM/COURSE TRANSFER Students may transfer from one section of a program to another or transfer from one MATC Campus to another while maintaining their enrollment, on a space available basis and if approved by the involved instructors. Students must be in good standing in their program to make any kind of transfer. A $5 fee will be assessed for each transfer. DROPS AND WITHDRAWALS Students may drop or withdraw from a program or course any time before the first day of instruction for a full refund of tuition. After the first day of instruction students may receive a refund of tuition based on the program length and students academic standing at the time of the withdrawal. Once a withdrawal or drop has been finalized, students lose any progression towards program hours needed for completion, and competencies may have to be re-done if the student should re-enroll at a later date. For a detailed policy breakdown please see the Withdrawal and Refund Policy section in the and chapter of this catalog. REQUIREMENTS / ACCOMMODATIONS Technology Requirements for Students MATC students are provided access to computer labs and software required for completion of the program requirements. Students are not required to purchase outside hardware or software to enroll at MATC. Americans with Disabilities MATC provides support and assistance to students with disabilities.
