3 Dear colleagues and friends, it is our great pleasure to organise in Naples an International Workshop on Translational research on malignant gliomas; from discovery to clinic. This event occurs two years after the international meeting on New diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and future perspectives in neuro-oncology, which has resulted in good scientific interest and participation, thus confirming the activity of neuro-oncologic group. The workshop discusses the more recent acquisitions of the biomolecular research and focuses their applications to the diagnosis and surgical, radiotherapic and chemotherapic management of malignant gliomas. Infact, the progress of molecular biology on the angiogenesis, invasion and cell metabolism of malignant gliomas have significantly improved both the magnetic resonance and nuclear medicine diagnosis and the management, particularly thank to the introduction of new biological therapies. Other discussed interesting topics include the role of the stem cells and the environemental and genetic impact of malignant gliomas. The speakers are among the most experts in each field. We hope that the scientific and clinic interest of the workshop and the presence of many expert speakers will favour a wide participation of specialists devoted to the neuro-oncology and fruitful exchanges of information and opinions.
