2 Our exciting skydiving scheme gives you the opportunity to do a tandem parachute jump for free if you raise a minimum of 400 in sponsorship. Just imagine the excitement, thrill, accomplishment and pride you will feel (probably along with some nerves) in taking part in an amazing tandem skydive in support of the British Heart Foundation s (BHF) fight for every heartbeat. The BHF has teamed up with UK Skydive to bring you this once in a lifetime experience. Why take to the skies for the nation s heart charity? Parachuting and freefall are incredible experiences and as you soar through the air, you ll be helping the BHF to save lives. Our vision is a world in which people do not die prematurely or suffer from heart disease. With your support, we can drive the fight forward by doing more research, making more discoveries and offering information, support and care to heart patients and their families. What s involved? You choose the drop zone venue that is most convenient for you. Your training and the actual skydive are completed in one day. You jump out of a plane at over 10,000 feet and accelerate in free fall from 0 to 120 mph. You fall through the sky for around 5,000 feet then your parachute is deployed. You then experience silence and tranquillity, and amazing views as you gently glide down to earth. You jump harnessed to a professional British Parachute Association (BPA) Instructor, who controls the free fall, parachute opening and landing. If you raise 400 or more, you can jump for free as you won t have to pay for the cost of the skydive. 2 3

3 Your Jump Day On the morning of your jump, you will get a 30 minute ground briefing on the equipment that will be used and how it works as well as full information on exiting the aircraft, freefall and how to land safely. Once you have been securely attached to an experienced tandem parachute jump instructor with a 4-point harness system, you will board the aircraft together. The plane will normally climb to above 10,000 feet where you will exit and begin your freefall. After reaching speeds of approximately 120 miles per hour your freefall will end at around 5,000 feet when the tandem instructor will deploy the main parachute and you will begin your descent under canopy. This will last between four to six minutes as you fly towards your landing area. Restrictions on who can skydive The minimum age for a tandem skydive is 16. If you are over 16 but under 18, you will need to obtain your parent s/guardian s permission to take part. There is no upper age limit for a tandem skydive. Anyone aged 40 or over will need to have their Declaration of Fitness form signed or stamped by their GP. Most drop zones require jumpers to weigh less than 15 stone, but this can be lower or higher depending on where you jump, your gender and your body mass index. There are also some restrictions in relation to medical conditions. Full details are given on the Declaration of Fitness form that you will receive from UK Skydive, but generally if you have a medical condition like diabetes, epilepsy, heart disease or severe asthma you will need to get your declaration form signed by your GP, whatever your age. How does the scheme work? UK Skydive operates the BHF s parachute scheme and they will coordinate your jump wherever you live in the UK. We ask all Heart Flyers to raise a minimum of 400: Amount 50 nonrefundable deposit (jump fee payment) 165 (or more) for the BHF s life-saving work 185 plus any fuel surcharge (final jump fee payment) When At the time of registering Must be with us two weeks prior to the jump date Must be with us two weeks prior to the jump date if raised online or paid by you on the day of the jump if raised offline If we do not receive your sponsorship money or have proof of online sponsorship money, two weeks prior to your jump then the BHF has the right to cancel your skydive with UK Skydive. When can I jump? UK Skydive will try to book your first choice date, but if not one of your other choices. We use only BPA approved drop zones around the UK and will book you in to the drop zone of your choice if available (see page 6). 4 5

4 Where will I be jumping? You can choose from any of the below drop zones to do your skydive. This will enable your friends and family from far and wide to go online to sponsor you. Other things to consider UK Skydive office@londonparachuteschool.com Fuel surcharge Due to the price of aviation fuel being unpredictable, some drop zones apply a fuel surcharge. If this applies, the surcharge is normally between Should this be the case at your selected location, UK Skydive will contact you and advise you of this prior to processing your booking. If you choose to jump at a drop zone that has added a fuel surcharge then you will have to raise that extra amount in addition to the 400 minimum amount to jump. For example, if the drop zone you choose has added a fuel surcharge of 15 then you will need to raise a minimum of 415 (paying 200 instead 185 as the final jump fee payment). Insurance Tandem skydivers are covered by the BPA s Public Liability insurance for up to 2 million liability to third parties. This does not cover you or your dependents for personal injury or death. You may want to arrange personal accident insurance for your skydive and there are insurers recommended by the BPA listed on their website (bpa.org.uk). Organising a group jump If you would like to jump as group of friends or work colleagues, please send your registration forms in together by post with a note. Jumping slots can book up quite quickly during the summer months so please give UK Skydive as much notice as possible. Filming your jump Most drop zones will have professional cameramen available to capture your big moment. Video, DVD or photographs make a fantastic lasting reminder of your day as well as providing proof to your sponsors that you actually did it! The cost to film your jump varies from around 100 to 180. It is worth checking with your drop zone in advance what will be available and how much it will cost. 7
