Welcome The offshore renewables sector has made Denmark famous in the most positive way since the world s first offshore wind farm was installed in Danish waters 20 years ago. Danish suppliers all over the country possess comprehensive and critical expertise in the field of offshore renewables, and the main part of foreign offshore wind projects have been built with assistance from Danish consultants, installation companies and wind turbine manufacturers. Director Peter Blach The annual Offshore Wind International Business Event (OWIB) has also helped promote the Danish offshore sector to the international offshore sector as an innovative industry, and Offshore Center Danmark is visited regularly by international delegations. In order to better support the Danish offshore renewables sector, Offshore Center Danmark has established a new division so that the offshore renewables sector is provided with its own division in Denmark s national knowledge centre. Similarly, the offshore oil & gas sector will also have its own division. The aim is to provide the best possible support for the many special projects and initiatives that Offshore Center Danmark is involved in all over Denmark, such as is the case in Ringkøbing/Lem, on Djursland, in Vordingborg/Guldborgsund and in Copenhagen. The construction of the Horns Rev 1 and 2 offshore wind farms immediately off Esbjerg constituted the starting signal for the town s status as Denmark s offshore town. The majority of the offshore renewables sector s players are today based or have a department in Esbjerg, and turbine parts for a wide range of international offshore wind projects are shipped from Esbjerg as well. Therefore Esbjerg is still the natural centre for consulting engineers, manufacturers and sub-suppliers involved in offshore. In order to mark the establishment of the new divisions, ON/ OFF News has been divided into 2 separate magazines: Offshore Renewables and Offshore Oil and Gas. Please make sure that you receive the right magazines according to the focus of your business. ON/OFF News 33, which revolves around offshore renewables, is published concurrent with ON/OFF News 32, that focuses on the oil and gas sector. Common to the 2 magazines is the description of Esbjerg as a base for development in the sector in general and the opportunities and prospects that a strong industry is facing. 5 Esbjerg is Denmark s energy metropolis Upholding Esbjerg s position in the fast-developing offshore sector is hard work, says Esbjerg s mayor Johnny Søtrup The offshore sector has grown big and strong in Esbjerg through the 1990s and the 2000s. In fact, it has grown big enough to have surpassed what used to be the main business in town fishing. Instead of seine pulling, fishing vessels and cold stores, Esbjerg harbour now houses consulting engineers and construction and service companies. The harbour is also used for storing several thousands of wind turbines ready to be shipped to wind farms all over the world. Development in the offshore sector has helped Esbjerg Harbour become Denmark s largest business harbour in terms of the area that it covers, and Esbjerg can rightly be called Denmark s energy metropolis. Personnel, consultancy and products are shipped to a wide range of countries in the world from Esbjerg and, since the world s first offshore wind farm opened in 1991, the offshore sector has flourished and secured Esbjerg an important spot on the world map in an internationally oriented offshore industry. Esbjerg s Mayor Johnny Søtrup says: I don t hesitate to claim that Esbjerg is the most internationally oriented town in Denmark. We put a lot of effort into pro- moting ourselves by means of the energy sector and, consequently, the offshore sector. We ve taken many initiatives that combine to make Esbjerg an energy metropolis. Strong effort to promote Esbjerg Esbjerg s position is the result of a great deal of hard work. Telling the world about the offshore sector s great significance has been a demanding task in itself for which Esbjerg Municipality and a range of organisations have been responsible. ON/OFF NEWS - March

Johnny Søtrup explains: Danish energy production contributes significantly to Denmark s economy, but the world around us has never really discovered how much the sector means. At a point we were visited by the businessman Jørgen Mads Clausen from Danfoss. On a tour of the harbour, he exclaimed: Why hasn t anyone told me about all the things that happen in offshore? When one of the country s most prominent businessmen is surprised by how much goes on in Esbjerg, a lot of other people must feel the same way. This is why Esbjerg Municipality, together with for instance Esbjerg Business Development Centre, has made a systematic effort to market Esbjerg as an energy metropolis. The development project Offshore Energy has helped accentuate the significance of the offshore sector. This is mayor Johnny Søtrup at an Offshore Energy conference between regional council chairman Carl Holst (right) and director Peter Blach, Offshore Center Danmark. Johnny Søtrup says: Many national politicians didn t have any knowledge of the energy sector, and they didn t know that the offshore sector actually contributes significantly to Danish national economy. We ve attempted to change that through our marketing of Esbjerg, and we re going to keep on doing that. Not least is it important for us to tell young people about the opportunities that exist here. There s no doubt that cleantech is going to take up even more space in the years ahead, which is why we must make sure the young people know about the opportunities they have for training themselves in Esbjerg. Appealing to young people One of the initiatives is a new sports college where young people can live and study and get involved in sports at a high level. It requires more than an exciting workplace if you re aiming to attract young people. Johnny Søtrup adds: As a municipality we must keep on making sure that the framework for professionalisation is good. There must be opportunities for training and for living here, but entrepreneurial companies must also have access to professional counselling. We ve succeeded in providing this to such an extent that Esbjerg has been awarded the prize as Denmark s entrepreneurial town by the Danish Chamber of Commerce. Yet another great initiative is the development project Offshore Energy, which was initiated by Offshore Center Danmark. This is a project that helps ensure that many people also outside the sector are given information about what happens in the offshore sector. In this way the message is spread. More offshore wind projects wanted Through optimum conditions for students and companies that settle down in Esbjerg, Esbjerg has done its legwork, the mayor believes. However, if Esbjerg is to preserve its position, it is obviously also important that new offshore wind projects are launched all the time. The good news is that the prospects for this are very encouraging. Johnny Søtrup says: The offshore wind sector has only seen the tip of the iceberg. After all, only around 10% of the planned wind farms in the North Sea have actually been established, so there s still a great potential. This is the reason that almost 135 million is being invested in the development of Esbjerg harbour, and we re attempting to achieve an even more optimum infrastructure - for instance by extending the motorway all the way down to the harbour. There s no doubt that we re ready to take on the great challenges that await us. At the same time we re encouraging the Government to decide on yet another wind farm in the North Sea, and I believe there s good reason to expect that to happen. When this becomes a reality, it ll undoubtedly generate lots of jobs here. 6 ON/OFF NEWS - March 2012

Gateway to the offshore sector Local representation in Esbjerg is to be springboard for Total Wind s further growth General Manager Alice Stølsvig Pedersen heads Total Wind s Esbjerg department. Here she is engaging in a dialogue with potential partners at the large OWIB B2B event. The installation and service company Total Wind wants to move closer to its customers. This is why the company, that has its headquarters in Brande in central Jutland, opened a department on the harbour in Esbjerg last year. Total Wind specialises in installation, service and maintenance of wind turbines and has actually entered a growing market from Brande. However, the company focuses also on opportunities in the British and German markets, so it was obvious to open a department in Esbjerg. General Manager Alice Stølsvig Pedersen, who heads Total Wind s Esbjerg department, says: It s a great advantage to be located where assignments are. Our location in Esbjerg also makes us more competitive because we don t have to factor in transport and hotel stays for our staff from Brande all the time. And we obviously hope and believe that our new department can pave the way for more projects. The department in Esbjerg opened in 2011, and since then Alice Stølsvig Pedersen has entered into a close dialogue with the rest of the sector. She has been taking part in B2B meetings and contacting new partners to pursue Total Wind s aim of growing. She says: In order to be a part of the offshore wind environment, it s natural for Total Wind to be represented in Esbjerg. In this way we get a much better sense of the sector than if we were located only in Brande. Focuses on other countries Total Wind was established in 2003 by Jens Nygård Laursen, who is also the company s CEO. The company performs all kinds of service and maintenance such as, for instance, inspection of blades by the help of rope access teams and repair of blades. Total Wind also provides personnel, tools and service cars for owners of wind farms in relation to planned service and maintenance. In addition, Total Wind possesses important competences in projecting, transport and crane service to do with both offshore and onshore projects. COO Christian D. Christensen says: The strategic decision to open a department in Esbjerg has paid off even though there are challenges in a sector that s as busy as offshore. One of the challenges is to spread service and maintenance assignments relating to existing projects throughout the year to avoid periods with bottlenecks and other periods where things don t move at all. Yet another challenge is that the mindset abroad is increasingly different from what goes for Danish customers. Alice Stølsvig Pedersen explains: Danish personnel have good compe- ON/OFF NEWS - March

tences, but are paid high wages. However, we often handle heavy and expensive things, so we require a lot of individual members of staff, and all of them are trained precisely for the tasks they re responsible for also through peer-topeer training. As the market grows to include still more countries, we encounter customers who think differently than we re used to in Denmark. There s a still stronger focus on costs, and there s a risk that the welfare of staff becomes less important. But it s imperative for us to find the right balance in terms of personnel and good economy of projects and also take very seriously high quality and tough safety requirements. Christian D. Christensen says: We really expect our staff to take ownership of the assignments they re performing for us. They should feel it s not just a job and feel a responsibility for what they re doing. Fortunately, we sense that many of the large players know that saving money in the short term can become expensive in the long term. The Danish model It is the constant focus on high safety levels and high quality that results in Total Wind securing assignments, even though price is often the overriding parameter. And it is also the fact that Danish suppliers have a different relationship with their customers than what you see in some other countries where the customer is always right. Alice Stølsvig Pedersen observes: As a sub-supplier you need broad shoulders and you have to be able to say stop and take on a responsibility in specific situations; this applies also to the large wind turbine manufacturers and other large players in the sector. You need to have the courage to propose other things than wind turbine manufacturers and energy companies do if you re convinced that your own ideas are better than theirs. It s probably a different matter abroad, but when it comes to safety, we d rather turn down an assignment than put our staff s safety and their use of their limbs at risk. And in a competitive market it s a challenge to make sure the allowances you make for your customer and the economy come together. Today it is Esbjerg tomorrow? The new Esbjerg department is the centre of many activities, and Alice Stølsvig Pedersen expects the department to take on more staff in the course of this year. However, this internationally oriented company also acknowledges the fact that things may be different tomorrow: Everybody says Esbjerg is well located for assignments in the offshore wind sector, but this will only be true as long as it isn t more profitable to place assignments in other harbour towns closer to future activities. Taking into consideration Total Wind s focus on the German market, the next new department may well be located in Germany. We ll consider the same things as we did when we opened the department in Esbjerg: we need to be as close as we possibly can to emerging assignments. If we re not represented locally, we won t secure assignments. This is the reason that many suppliers establish themselves in, for instance, Hamburg. They want to make sure they are in contact with the German market; I suppose it s only natural to prioritise things that way, adds Alice Stølsvig Pedersen. Total Wind has an international focus, and only around 1 % of the company s activities are in Denmark. However, local representation is always important, and the recently inaugurated department in Esbjerg is critical to the company s growth. 8 ON/OFF NEWS - March 2012

Semco Maritime developes communication systems for the offshore wind industry Has used experience from the oil and gas industry to develope offshore wind communication packages As it becomes commonplace for offshore wind farms to be installed further out from land the requirement for reliable data and telecommunication systems is increasing. And Esbjerg-based Semco Maritime has used valuable experience and knowledge from the oil and gas industry to develope a reliable and highly respected provider to companies in the offshore wind sector. The environmental conditions in respect of weather and sea conditions are the same however the risk of fire or explosion is lower so more options are open to us when it comes to the choice of technologies, says Per Holgersen, Semco Maritime. Semco Maritime operates in communication packages including infrastructure, Public Address, General Alarm as well as data networks and meteorological monitoring equipment just to name a few. Semco Maritime participated in the introduction of Tetra terminals for the offshore wind industry. The Tetra Radios resemble large cellphones, and are now widely used during the installation of offshore wind turbines and during planned maintenance. This technology is well established and is used by many Police forces, Emergency Services and Airports One trend in the market is a growing demand for fast and efficient data transfer between turbines, transformer platforms and land based equipment. As wind farms are being installed ever further from land it is vital that reliable data transport systems are in place, Per Holgersen says. New technology Per Holgersen points out that a wireless data technology called Wimax is very effective for this purpose. In many cases there is limited or no access to fiber cables on the mobile vessels. Wimax is ideally suited for high-bandwidth data transport offshore as it is possible to transmit and receive broadband data, he explains. It s not difficult to imagine the increase in efficiency with better access to data networks. It s now possible to send drawings and specifications to individual technicians offshore. This saves both time and money, says Per Holgersen. 10 ON/OFF NEWS - March 2012

Operation technologist - new 2-year offshore course First batch of graduates finish in the spring - expectations are high The companies in the offshore sector require many staff and, as demand rises internationally, more companies are having to turn down assignments because they do not have enough qualified people. In order to provide more people with the right competences, a range of new courses are currently emerging, and the educational establishments in Esbjerg are focusing on designing the courses for them to live up to the demands of companies. In order to train more people to handle operation and maintenance of mechanical engineering plants on, for instance, offshore wind turbines and other offshore installations, Business Academy Southwest in Esbjerg has developed an entirely new course called Operation Technologist. Through practical and theoretical training, this 2-year course is an opportunity to become a part of the offshore market in a relatively short period of time. This will mean involvement in a wide range of tasks and also entail the combination of knowledge of mechanical engineering, energy and process-technical plants with overall knowledge of, for instance, quality management, economy and environmental conditions. Keld Jacobsen from Esbjerg Business Academy Southwest explains: Companies in the sector urgently need more skilled, young people, and we ve designed the course for it to meet the needs of the sector. As an operation technologist offshore, you can get involved in operation and maintenance of technical plants and installations in, for instance, energy and water supply. And if you wish to further your education, you can go on and train to become a Technical Manager Offshore, where you ll have the overall responsibility on, for instance, an offshore installation or an offshore wind farm. The operation technology course paves the way for employment in 3 main fields: operation, planning and maintenance. Students can also specialise in oil and gas, ordinary industry and sustainable energy and obtain the title of operations assistant, quality assistant/manager, supervisor, production manager, maintenance manager, departmental manager, etc. According to Keld Jacobsen, it is also possible to take over some of the tasks that have hitherto been handled by a Technical Manager Offshore. The operation technologist course is new, and the first batch of graduates are expected to finish their training this spring. Keld Jacobsen hopes that mainly the offshore wind sector will make use of the new operation technologists. According to Keld Jacobsen, the Swedish energy company Vattenfall, which is responsible for, among other things, operation of Horns Rev 1, is ready to take on the first operation technologists when they have obtained their certificates. 15 New regional networking groups in the offshore wind sector Offshore Center Danmark stablishes networking group for companies in the offshore wind sector in Greater Copenhagen as the first of a series of regional, new networking groups Upcoming Renewables Events: April Conference: Brazil Wind Energy Conference 2012 Copenhagen April Conference and Exhibition: EWEA 2012 Sao Paulo, Brazil May Conference: Wind Power Mexico Mexico May Conference and Exhibition: PWEA 2012 Warsaw For many years, the proximity to the oil and gas installations in the North Sea and Horns Rev wind Farm has made Esbjerg the natural centre for the offshore industry. However, many of the sector s consultants, suppliers and niche companies are located in other locations in Denmark, and Offshore Center Danmark has decided to organise activities close to these companies instead of having the companies come to Esbjerg. The national knowledge centre for the offshore renewables sector has taken the initiative for a networking group based in Copenhagen that is to exchange experiences and make visible the sector s competences. The centre has been doing this since its inception in 2003, but now it is looking forward to bringing its activities to companies a long way from Esbjerg. Peter Blach, Offshore Center Danmarks director, says: We re aiming to develop our networking activities and professionalise our way of initiating and hosting networking activities. The way the entire offshore renewables sector is developing and growing is truly amazing, and there are many companies around the country that are involved in offshore renewables. Our objective is to establish networking activities where the companies are located. You might say we re attempting to keep up with developments in the sector. Palle Isaksen, who is Offshore Center Danmark s HR coordinator, will be the networking facilitator of the first networking initiative, that is based in Copenhagen. The first event takes place in early May and, in addition to the activities in Copenhagen, the aim is to establish more networking groups in several other locations around Denmark in the course of Palle Isaksen says: Copenhagen is an obvious location, and, naturally, we ll also have activities in other places where there s currently a lot of activity in offshore renewables such as the Aarhus/Grenaa area in connection with the establishment of Anholt Wind Farm, southern Zealand and on Lolland and Falster islands prior to the establishment of Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in the Baltic and in Ringkøbing/ Lem and northern Jutland prior to the establishment of more offshore wind farms in the northern part of the North Sea. Companies can also suggest to Offshore Denmark where new networking groups might be established. Please obtain more information from Offshore Center Danmark. 18 NAMES NAMES Names in News Vestas appoints new offshore director Following a reshuffle of the company s top brass, Vestas Wind Systems A/S has appointed the former president of Vestas Central Europe, Hans Jörn Rieks, as manager of the company s offshore division. Hans Jörn Rieks takes over from Anders Søe-Jensen, and Rieks will be responsible for the company entering into strategic partnerships and for developing the next generation of Vestas wind turbines. The reshuffle of Vestas top management means also that CFO and Executive Vice President Henrik Nørremark has stepped down. Ditlev Engel remains President and CEO. Apro appoints director from DONG Energy The Grenaa company Apro Wind A/S has appointed Esben Schmidt as CEO. Esben Schmidt comes from a position as DONG Energy s Installation Project Manager of Anholt Wind Farm and replaces Henrik Møller-Jensen, who remains chairman of the board. Hans Jörn Rieks My main objective will be to find strategic partners to further develop the potential of offshore wind power. Vestas aims to remain a leading player in offshore; now we just need to work out the right set-up, states Hans Jörn Rieks. Hans Jörn Rieks has been a part of Vestas since 1993 and has held various positions in the concern. Now he is going to focus on opportunities in the offshore market. Offshore wind remains an important part of Vestas strategy, and I m looking very much forward to this exciting, new opportunity. We ve made our mark on the industry since its very beginnings, and I m confident that we ll continue to do so. The market potential is immense and it s my clear objective to ensure that we remain a leading player and gain an even bigger piece of the pie in future, says Hans Jörn Rieks. Henrik-Møller-Jensen says: In the past couple of years, we ve taken some big steps when you look at our activities in offshore wind, and this growth will go on in the coming years. With Apro Wind A/S and the appointment of Esben Schmidt, who is one of the best in the sector, we ve created the best possible basis for the company. Esben Schmidt is a well known and respected profile in the wind sector and has his specialty in offshore wind turbines; most recently he is known from DONG Energy where he has built up and been responsible for the project office in the old customs house on Grenaa Harbour. Esben Schmidt says: Over the past couple of years, Apro Wind has become a very visible and renowned sub-supplier to the huge players in the wind industry. The company has a great growth potential, and I look forward to contributing to the continued development of the company. The new Apro Wind A/S management consists apart from CEO Esben Schmidt also of Director of Business Esben Schmidt Development and Engineering Morten Basse Jensen. He has been the architect of Apro Wind s success in recent years and is also known as the driving force of the business network Djurs Wind Power. Morten Basse Jensen says: We ve reached yet another milestone in the development of the company, and the visionary managers of Apro Wind should command respect. The fact that they re capable of attracting a capacity such as Esben Schmidt is proof of their competence, and I look forward to helping Apro Wind achieving new aims together with Esben Schmidt. The Apro concern s success in recent years has meant that, from the turn of the year, the owners have spun off Apro Wind as an independent public limited company. The company is involved in providing personnel and service for the wind sector, while the remaining part of the concern consists of Apro Industri Aps., that is involved in gates and cranes, plus Apro Baltic ON/OFF NEWS NEWS - MARCH - MAY March

NAMES Denmark and China initiate collaboration on sustainable energy Offshore Center Danmark strengthens staff team Palle Isaksen has been appointed HR coordinator with responsibility for recruitment and training of staff, and he will be in charge also of reinforcing the organisation. In addition, Palle Isaksen has been appointed a networking facilitator in relation to a very recent initiative that focuses on building up regional networks in various locations in Denmark. The concerted effort may lead to enhanced demand for green products from Danish offshore companies According to the Danish Energy Agency, Denmark has begun collaborating with China to help transform the Chinese energy supply into a climate-friendly energy system, which is why the agency believes Danish companies may benefit from the initiative. A deal between the recently established China National Renewable Energy Centre (CNREC) and the Danish Energy Agency is to clear the way for the new collaboration. The deal means the 2 institutions will join forces in future about development and more widespread use of sustainable energy sources. The joint effort is to enhance exchange of experiences and pave the way for growing use of Danish solutions in China. Palle Isaksen In connection to the ongoing Internationalization project Offshore Center Danmark has also appointed contacts for 4 markets: Paulo Veiga, Angola Arne Borg Pedersen, Brazil Steen Bangsgaard, Greenland Jens Bollerup, the Middle East. The Area Manager of Norway will be appointed later. Minister for Climate, Energy and Building Martin Lidegaard believes the collaboration has great prospects. He says: China wants to reinforce development of sustainable energy, energy infrastructure and energy savings. It s obvious that Denmark should help advances in this field on the way. The transition to a low emission economy in China and in other growth economies is absolutely critical to our ability to solve the global climate challenge. The conversion in China to a more green energy system also provides great opportunities for Danish companies. These are fields with very significant potentials for green growth, and Denmark leads internationally. Over the past couple of years, 2 Chinese wind turbine manufacturers have established research and development activities in Denmark, and the collaboration Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Building Martin Lidegaard believes Denmark s and China s concerted effort has great prospects. agreement can help more Chinese companies on the way. The Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building already has a range of collaboration agreements with Chinese authorities and partners. These encompass integration of sustainable energy in the power grid, charting of groundwater and geological surveys, meteorological research, including charting of wind resources, climate changes/ adjustment and CDM projects. 814 ON/OFF NEWS NEWS - MARCH - MAY 2010 ON/OFF NEWS - March

NOTES & NEWS Siemens secures order for German offshore wind farm Siemens Wind Power has secured yet another large order for a German offshore wind farm. This one concerns MW turbines for the Amrumbank West project in the North Sea, and each turbine has a rotor diameter of 120 m. With an installed capacity of 288 MW, this wind farm will deliver clean energy for around 300,000 houses when it starts operating in This is Siemens seventh German order for offshore wind turbines. Felix Ferlemann, CEO of Siemens Energy Wind Power Division, states: We ve now signed contracts for 440 wind turbines. They ll have a total installed capacity of around 1,600 MW, which means Siemens will become the leading operator in terms of wind energy exploitation in Germany. Siemens offshore technology will play an important role in the building-up of clean power supply in Germany. The Amrumbank West project will be located 35 km north of the island Helgoland, 37 km west of the island Amrum. Siemens will deliver, install and put into operation the turbines and also be responsible for maintenance for a period of 5 years. Helgoland will function as a service base, and the turbines will be installed in an area of 32 km 2 with a water depth of approximately 25 m. Siemens launches new 6 MW direct drive offshore wind turbine Siemens Energy launched its new 6 MW direct drive wind turbine at the European Offshore Wind Energy Conference in Amsterdam, Holland. The SWT-6.0 has rotor blades of 120 and 154 m and is designed for the most challenging offshore sites. Siemens new turbine is fitted with the gearless Siemens Direct Drive design, which means the turbine has 50 % fewer parts than do wind turbines with gears. With a total weight of the nacelle, the hub and rotor of around 350 tonnes, the SWT-6.0 is the lightest machine in its category. The unique combination of robustness and low weight reduces costs related to transport, installation and service significantly and increases the amount of energy the turbine can produce in its lifetime. Furthermore, it improves its profitability. Siemens Wind Power CTO Henrik Stiesdal says: Our 6 MW offshore wind turbine features the total technical know-how achieved through the past 3 decades. We expect the SWT-6.0 to set the new standard for offshore wind projects all over the world. With its fancy design and low weight, it ll contribute significantly to the reduction of costs related to energy produced by means of wind. Siemens new wind turbine is designed to be able to withstand the toughest conditions at sea and will be constructed with 2 different sizes of rotor. DONG Energy sells off share of Borkum Riffgrund DONG Energy has entered into a deal about selling off 50 % of the German offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund to the Lego concern s parent company Kirkbi A/S and the Oticon Foundation at a price of 625 million. This will happen through the investment company William Demant Invest A/S, which is entirely owned by DONG Energy. With an investment of 400 million, Kirkbi is a part of the consortium of buyers, which means Kirkbi will own 32 % of the wind farm. William Demant Invest will invest 230 million, which will result in ownership of 18 % of the wind farm. DONG Energy states: The deal is a great step forward for DONG Energy s partnership model to finance offshore wind farms. The market for offshore wind is currently growing rapidly because a range of countries wish to transform their energy supply into green energy. This has created a substantial need for external capital, so DONG Energy is pleased to be able to attract capital also from privately owned companies and from the industry. The deal strengthens DONG Energy s position as market-leading in construction and operation of offshore wind farms and proves that our partnership model works well also in the German market. In return, DONG Energy has agreed to build the Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm for a fixed price and also to finish the project a fixed point in time. On October 1, 2015, Kirkbi and William Demant Invest are expected to take over the completed wind farm together with the profits that go with their shares of ownership. Production until this point in time will go primarily to DONG Energy. The energy company has also entered into a 15-year agreement with the new investors about operation and planned maintenance of the wind farm. Borkum Riffgrund 1 will consist of MW wind turbines from Siemens Wind Power. The farm will be able to deliver CO 2 -free power for the annual consumption of more than 285,000 houses. 20 ON/OFF NEWS - March 2012
