This degree is designed to produce graduates who have the skills, theoretical knowledge, and communication skills required for employment in business. English Language. The programme provides the opportunity for students to further develop their competence in English. Understand Business. Through the provision of a mixture of taught modules, a project and autonomous learning the programme provides the opportunity to develop a systematic understanding of the holistic and multifaceted nature of business activity. Personal Development. The skillset embedded in the programme seeks to enhance participants personal development by improved self-awareness, and continuous development of the requisite business, English and study skills. Mentoring and Support. Throughout the programme we provide a supportive community and environment in which to learn. Students are supported in their study by subject tutors and they also receive individual support for their academic and personal development from their personal tutor. 5. 3 7. Programme Aims To provide a final year top up programme which can be accessed by International students entering Level 6 from another academic institution and: 1. To develop a broad understanding of the complex, diverse and integrated nature of business activity in different sectors 2. To develop an appreciation of the global marketplace in which businesses operate and the implications of this for business decisions and organisational culture 3. To foster awareness of the various dynamic contextual factors that will influence business 4. To promote in-depth knowledge and understanding of functional disciplines and identify their contribution to strategic decisions 5. To enhance employability through a combination of academic analysis and the development of key skills 6. To provide students with pastoral support and assist their personal development 7. To provide students with the opportunity to study Business English. 8. Programme Intended Learning Outcomes 8.1. Knowledge and understanding On successful completion graduates should have developed knowledge and understanding of: 1. the holistic nature of business in its broadest sense and to be able to use appropriate theoretical models to explain the elements and integrated nature of the national and international business context. 2. the key functional areas. 3. inputs, processes and outcomes of strategic decision making. 4. communication and information technology used in the workplace and understand the need for innovative and enterprising decision making. 5. in order to be able to make sense of the workplace and its differing cultures Cognitive and intellectual skills On successful completion graduates should have developed the ability to: 1. Critique rival frameworks and theories 2. Abstract analysis, critical thinking and synthesis 3. Intelligent application of appropriate principles in assessing policy or practice 4. Admissions Criteria, including APCL, APEL and DAS arrangements All applicants must have GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English at Grade C or above. Entry Requirements for BA Business Management with Business English Progression onto level 6 of the programme Students can progress to level 6 of the programme from a range of international institutions including those with appropriate articulation agreements. Students whose first language is not English who have appropriate HND s and UPC foundation degrees will also be considered 10.
