In the Turkish population, the wedding TV channel Dügün TV is very popular. It belongs to the same network as the home shopping brands Teleçar i and Türkshop, which have successfully established themselves throughout the Turkish-speaking market. In cooperation with the Cologne-based Anadolu University, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) opened its first European studio abroad in 2013 in Cologne. Cologne is one of the leading media locations in Germany and has a diverse range of companies from both the traditional and the new media sector. Through targeted promotion, this locational advantage can bring both sectors together and thus make efficient use of the enormous growth potential, which Cologne enjoys in this area. Increasingly frequently programmes are not watched during the current TV programme, but at a self-chosen time on the Internet, on smartphones, on tablets or via Smart-TV. And the fragmentation of the viewership into many different target groups leads to an increasing diversification of the offer of programmes and channels. Cologne s broadcasters have responded. For example, the Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland provides in its video portal Clipfish the second largest in Germany recordings of TV programmes, numerous specially produced, partly user-generated contents as well as music videos and feature films. In addition, the free channels of the media group have video-on-demand platforms (VoD), with access online and via Smart TV. The moving-picture offers for TVs with HbbTV functionality, also include non-linear specialist channels ClipFish Music, ClipFish Comedy, ClipFish Anime and since the beginning of 2014 the music channel dooloop which is also produced by ClipFish. The Second Screen programme RTL INSIDE finally offers additional information about the current live TV programme and communication possibilities via social networks. During the broadcast of the eighth season of»ich bin ein Star Holt mich hier raus«in spring 2014, the apps from RTL INSIDE and the VoD platform RTL NOW took top places in the respective download charts of the Apple-App-Store and Google-Play-Store. Overall, RTL interactive registered 2.56 million social media activities for the Dschungelshow in the form of Comments, Likes, Shares and Tweets. The WDR is present on the Internet, among others, with live streams and also with a Mediathek accessible from smart TVs. With the opinion magazine»tagesschaum«realized by the Cologne production company probono, three times per week prior to the federal election in 2013, the WDR presented a format that was first seen in a specially set up Youtube channel. In addition,... the Internet music station Putpat has more than 1.5 million registered users, who view the content on the web and mobile. Videovalis links the distribution of high-quality video content from over 90 premium suppliers and more than 30 regional stations with novel player technology and innovative video marketing. Mediakraft Networks, the largest online television channel in the German-speaking region, has its broadcast centre in Cologne. Among others, the company has Y-Titty under contract. The You- Tube channel of the three comedians resident in Cologne has the most subscribers in Germany. Mediakraft co-founder Christoph Krachten also operates one of Germany s most successful online channels with Clixoom. Since the end of 2013 it has operated under the name Clixoom Science & Fiction and is popular with users, among other things, with science news. the production company Brainpool TV operates the comedy platform and several Smart-TV channels. parallel to gamescom, with the VideoDay Europe s biggest You- Tuber meeting takes place in the LANXESS Arena. In 2013, 9,500 participants were counted. Guest in Cologne Prestigious television prizes are awarded and important industry events are held in Cologne. The International Film and Television Festival Cologne Conference, with its combination of specialist event and public festival, attracts several thousand participants and visitors year after year. Speakers always include top players in the international film and television business. An integral part of the event, sponsored by the City of Cologne and the State of NRW, are several awards: Filmpreis Köln, TV-Spielfilm-Award, The Hollywood Reporter Award and the Deutsche Casting-Award. Stars to be seen in recent years at the Cologne Conference include, among others, Isabelle Huppert, Harmony Korine and Sibel Kekilli as well as guests from Brazil and China. Following the successful premiere last year, the awards of the Cologne-based Deutsche Akademie für Fernsehen will probably be awarded in the Rhine metropolis once again in The Deutsche Fernsehpreis is always awarded in early October and always in the Coloneum. Its permanent secretariat is also located in Cologne, its sponsors are ARD, RTL, Sat.1 and ZDF. Responsible broadcaster in 2014 is the WDR. Although the future of the Fernsehpreis is uncertain, what is certain is that Cologne will continue to play an important role in any reorientation. In Cologne-Ossendorf, the MMC operates the Coloneum, one of the continent s largest and most modern studio complexes, and is available as co-producer and for service productions. Award-winning Fiction Not only MMC is a guarantee for high-quality and successful film productions from Cologne. In February 2014, the Brainpool TV production»stromberg Der Film«had its premiere in Cologne s Cinedom; it was transmitted via satellite to more than 90 cinemas. The Coin Film production»die Räuber«features Maximilian Schell in one of his last roles and is scheduled for release in 2014.»Der letzte Mentsch«was enthusiastically received by the audience at the 5th Jewish Film Festival in Munich. Elsani Film is one of the producers of the drama with Mario Adorf and Hannelore Elsner in the leading roles. In spring 2014, among others,»kalte Tage«was filmed in Cologne, a production of Ester.Reglin.Film with the German-French actor Mehdi Nebbou.»Bethlehem«, among other things, on the shortlist for the Academy Awards 2014 in the category»best Foreign Language Film«, was co-produced by GRINGO films. The premiere was in Cologne s Off Broadway. Before the end of 2014, shooting is planned to start in and around Cologne on»autobahn«, an action thriller starring Anthony Hopkins and Sir Ben Kingsley. The Heimatfilm co-production»qissa The Tale of A Lonely Ghost«was awarded the prize for the highest audience ratings at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in January Hupe Film actually a specialist for documentaries and feature films produced an animated film with»boles«, which was shown at over 50 international film festivals and won several awards. Engstfeld Filmproduktion made a name for itself most recently, among other things, with»camp 14: Total Control Zone«. The documentary ran at 50 international film festivals and won five major awards. From Fruitmarket and Tradewind Pictures comes»beltracchi Die Kunst der Fälschung«, the new documentary from Cologne filmmaker Arne Birkenstock. The premiere was in February 2014 in Cologne s Cinenova before a full audience. The Lichtblick production»die schöne Krista«was premiered at the Hof International Film Festival In the 39th running of the EKOFILM Festival in the Czech Republic, the Lichtfilm production»süßes Gift Entwicklungshilfe Afrika«was honoured as the Best Documentary with the Grand Prix.»The Punch«, a documentary project by Sutor Kolonko, won the TFI / ESPN Prize early in 2014 in the U.S.A. Alaaf You is something special. The documentary about Cologne s Carnival is produced from recordings that were made during the 2013/14 Carnival season and uploaded to the project webpage and a mobile app on the internet. Anyone could contribute, the film will be shown in cinemas, on WDR Fernsehen and on DVD in Responsible for the project among many others from the Cologne scene Eric Benz (script, production) and Baris Aladag (script, direction, production). Sales and distribution Several renowned film distributors are based in Cologne. Rapid Eye Movies brought the highly acclaimed Chinese-Japanese production of»a Touch of Sin«by the award-winning director Jia Zhangke into the cinemas at the beginning of Real Fiction has made itself a name as a distributor of acclaimed documentaries and feature films, including»charlie Mariano Last Visits«from Engstfeld Filmproduktion and»vergiss mein Ich«, the new film by Jan Schomburg with Maria Schrader. The premiere was at the end of April in Cologne s theatre»depot1«. An excellent reputation is also enjoyed by Filmlichter (»Bittere Kirschen«) and W-Film (»Das radikale Böse«). Also at home in Cologne: the world distributors Media Luna New Films and The Match Factory. The latter company was represented with five films at the Berlinale in 2014, among others, by the Afghanistan drama»zwischen Welten«, co-produced by Geißendörfer. Splendid Film like Splendid Produktion a 100-percent subsidiary of Splendid Medien acquires films on the world market and markets them across the entire value-added chain. Cologne cinema scene Cologne repeatedly stages glamorous premieres. Jim Jarmusch allowed the premiere of»only Lovers Left Alive«in the Cinenova to be followed by a concert, and the premieres of films partly shot in Cologne»Mr. Morgan s Last Love«(Cinenova) and»rush«(cinedom) also attracted international stars to the Rhine, the Odeon was completely sold out for the premiere of»hannas Reise«. And in the Residenz, an Astor Film Lounge, the finalists for the LUX Film Prize of the European Parliament were presented in The largest cinema centre in Cologne is the Cinedom, which has 14 cinemas, six of which can show 3D. In autumn 2013 three Cologne clubs Gebäude 9, King George and City Garden were honoured in the initial presentation of the Spielstättenprogrammpreis Rock, Pop, Jazz by the Initiative Musik, a promotional initiative of the federal government. Also awarded for the first time in 2013 were the Cologne Club Awards, organized by the KLUBKOMM and PopkulturKöln. Prizes went to Baustelle Kalk, Gewölbe, Klub Genau, Live Music Hall and Sonic Ballroom. Europe s largest reggae festival, Summer Jam, is at home in Cologne, as is Summerstage, the World Music Festival of the WDR Radio channel Funkhaus Europa. Ambient, Techno and Contemporary Classic are brought together at the Ambient Festival in the Basilica of St. Aposteln. The Week-End Fest with its unusual programme once again attracted worldwide attention in King George and the Museum Ludwig jointly organized the King Ludwig concert series on the roof of the famous museum. The Cologne Music Week takes place concurrently with»passagen Interior Design Week«as well as the»imm cologne The international interiors show«. And during gamescom once again in 2014, many stars will be appearing in the open air in Cologne s city centre. The MusicArtMedia Conference (MAM) will have its premiere in early August 2014, with art exhibitions, fashion shows and a twoday music festival where international star DJs are expected. Saturn am Hansaring is considered to be the world s largest entertainment store. Record shops like Parallel and Underdog have a large selection of vinyl, a-musik and Kompakt are also internationally known as a label for experimental and electronic music.

New and Classic Music For lovers of new music Cologne is one of the most important cities in Germany. And classical music lovers also get plenty of offers. According to a survey by the daily»rheinische Post«among music journalists, the three best orchestras in North Rhine-Westphalia are in Cologne: the Ensemble musikfabrik, the WDR Symphonie Orchester and the Gürzenich Orchester Cologne. The Network ON Neue Musik Köln, the Kölner Gesellschaft für Neue Musik and the Institut für Neue Musik at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln initiate numerous exciting projects and concerts. The reihem is an international series of concerts of contemporary music, electronic and new media. A great commitment is also shown by the radio stations: Deutschlandfunk with the Raderberg Concerts in the Kammermusiksaal and WDR 3 with traditional broadcast and concert series. The building of the Oper Köln a Grade II listed building by the architect Wilhelm Riphahn is currently being extensively renovated. Current venue is the»oper am Dom«. The central venue for classical music is the Kölner Philharmonie, where world-class artists regularly appear. Twelve renowned vocal ensembles have joined forces in the Netzwerk Kölner Chöre.
