2 Admission requirements for the TAOYAKA Program for Creating a Flexible, Enduring, Peaceful Society for enrollment in October 2015 for third-year transfer students are as follows. I. Admissions Policy TAOYAKA Program for Creating a Flexible, Enduring and Peaceful Society, a PhD Program for Leading Graduate Schools at Hiroshima University, is a program founded on cooperation and collaboration among educational institutions in Japan and other countries, business corporations, international cooperative organizations, etc., for the development of leaders to support societies founded on multicultural existence through acquisition of extensive understanding of diverse regional societies and cultures that have been nurtured over time and space and, based on this in-depth understanding, identify and develop advanced scientific knowledge and technologies that are necessary in resolving regional issues. For this purpose, Hiroshima University has organized the five-year integrated PhD program titled "TAOYAKA Program" to train students to acquire self-reliance, the drive to take action, multifaceted approach in thinking and creativity needed for leaders to support societies founded on multicultural existence. A transfer admission examination will be administered on graduate students wishing to transfer into TAOYAKA Program from the 3rd year of a five-year Ph.D. course (the 1st year of a doctoral course). The Program seeks students with the following qualifications. 1. Specialized knowledge and skills necessary in implementing on-site innovations 2. Possession of a vision (on-site research proposal) for on-site team projects organized by teams of students representing various academic disciplines, which are started in the third year of the post-graduate program (or first year of doctorate course). 3. A high level of understanding and interest in multicultural coexistence II. Eligibility Person who satisfies any of the following eligibility requirements. 1. Holder of master's degree or professional degree in Japan 2. Holder of master's degree or professional degree equivalent conferred in other countries 3. Holder of master's degree or professional degree equivalent earned in Japan by completing the graduate-level curriculum of an educational institution accredited in a foreign country to provide graduate-level curriculum in the said country and designated separately by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to have completed the said curriculum. 4. Holder of degree equivalent to master's degree by completing the curriculum of United Nations University. 5. Person recognized to have academic aptitude identical to or higher than holders of master's degree by completing the educational curriculum of a foreign educational institution, educational institution designated in Item 4 or United Nations University and passing the examinations and screening stipulated in Article 16-2 of the Standards for the Establishment of Graduate Schools. 6. Person designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT Ministerial Ordinance No. 118 of September 1, 1989). 7. Person who is certified to have academic aptitude equivalent to or higher than persons holding master's degree or professional degree through individual admission screening and who have reached the age of Person who is expected to qualify in any of the foregoing criteria by September 30, Note 1. 3 IV. Preliminary screening for eligibility Persons seeking admission under Criterion 7 or 8 require screening for eligibility prior to submission of application. Applicants requiring preliminary screening for eligibility shall be required to see the "List of Program faculty members" and the TAOYAKA Program homepage to choose the Program staff member under which the applicant in question desires tutelage and to consult the staff member in advance regarding whether the applicant's desired activities are suited to the Program, as well as desired scope of research, etc. Please submit the documents required for preliminary screening either by mail or in person during the application period indicated below. 1. The prospective applicant will be notified of the result of the preliminary screening by no later than May 14, 2015 (Thu). V. Application procedure Applicants shall be required to see the "List of Program faculty members" and the TAOYAKA Program homepage to choose the Program staff member under which the applicant in question desires tutelage and to consult the staff member in advance regarding whether the applicant's desired activities are suited to the Program, as well as desired scope of research, etc. Please submit the documents required for preliminary screening either by mail or in person during the application period indicated below. 1. Application documents are accepted during the following period. From May 15, 2015 (Fri) and no later than May 29, 2015 (Fri) at 5:00 p.m. Note: 1. The reception hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The documents cannot be accepted on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays. 2. When mailing in Japan, documents are accepted after the deadline only when the postmark date is May 27 (Wed) or earlier. 3. When mailing, the documents must be sent by simple registered mail, and the envelope must have "Contains Program Application Documents" written in red ink. 2. Application fee (exempt for government-sponsored international students) (1) Application fee: 30,000 (Please note that the handling fee must be covered by the applicant.) Note: 1. An applicant who has been certified of eligibility in the preliminary screening need not submit documents already submitted. 2. Certificates and other documents must be submitted in the original or in certified copies. Copies without certification will not be accepted. 3. A person who has qualified for admission based on prospect of graduation will be disqualified if the person fails to graduate (complete the designated course) by the date of Program enrollment. A person who has qualified for admission based on prospect of graduation is required to submit a certificate of graduation (course completion) and official academic transcript. 4. Changes in application information are not permitted after acceptance of the application documents. 5. Documents that have been accepted will not be returned. 6. Admission/enrollment will be canceled if falsification of information or fraud is found in the documents submitted after admission or enrollment. 7. Personal information (such as name, date of birth, gender and other personal information of the applicant) acquired in the course of admission screening will be used strictly for the screening process, notification of successful applicants and for the enrollment procedure. After enrollment, the information will be used for activities related to student assistance (such as application for scholarship, application for exemption from tuition payment, etc.). The said information will not be used for other purposes and will not be made available to parties other than the faculty members of the Program. It must be noted that the information may be supplied to outside service contractors in commissioning computer processing service related to student affairs, after concluding an agreement on appropriate handling of personal data. 4

6 VI. Selection procedure, etc. 1. First-round screening (documentation screening) The first-round screening is based on examination of the documents submitted by the applicant. The result of the screening will be published on the Program homepage ( by June 19, 2015 (Fri). 2. Second-round screening (oral examination, etc.) Examination date: Time and date specified by the University between June 22, 2015 (Mon) and July 2, 2015 (Thu) The examination consists of an oral interview regarding the Program (academic discipline, leadership qualities, English proficiency, etc.) and oral examination based on the documents submitted. Details of the time, date and location of the examination will be provided to the applicant qualifying in the first-round screening (documentation screening) by . Also, long-distance personal interview will be conducted via Internet telephone for applicants residing overseas. 3. Please note that we do not accept inquiries by telephone, etc., as a general rule. VII. Admission expenses 1. Admission fee: 282, Annual tuition: 535,800 (1) Students who do not receive scholarships will not be required to pay the admission fee and annual tuition. (2) Please note that admission fee paid to Admissions is non-refundable. (3) The aforementioned tuition and fees are as of March If there is a revision in the tuition and fees at enrollment or later, the student will be required to pay the amount after revision. VIII. Financial support for education Persons who have qualified and are admitted to the Program will be provided the following support. However, financial support will be terminated once the student withdraws from the Program. 1. Financial assistance fund (scheduled to be 180,000 to 200,000 yen per month) (1) If the student has a source of income (such as student receiving other scholarships or being gainfully employed), the student may not be eligible for financial aid. (The student on government and other scholarship programs will be required to choose one scholarship program.) (2) The student receiving this scholarship is required to engage in full-time study under the Program and shall be prohibited from taking a part-time job as a general rule. (3) The sum of the fund will be reviewed every academic term, based on academic performance, Program attendance, etc. (4) The fund may be reduced or payment suspended, under provisions of the University. (5) The fund is taxable. 2. Coverage of expenses incurred in study will be covered in the range specified by the Program. 5

Credit earning after transfer Qualifying transfer students may be required to earn credits for specific subjects before the second year of the program, depending on the results of the transfer entrance examination and credits already earned. X. Counseling for applicants who require special considerations in entrance examinations and study An applicant who requires special considerations in taking the entrance examination and in Program study, such as person with disabilities, shall be required to submit an application (no prescribed form required) indicating the following either in person, by mail or by and to request counseling. 1.
