4 LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS DESCRIPTION PERSONNEL COMMISSION Class Code 3206 Unit S DEFINITION AREA ELECTRICAL SUPERVISOR Manages Oversees the overall electrical operations in a local district designated mmaintenance and ooperations area. Supervises, assigns, inspects, and evaluates the work of the assigned staff, provides technical work direction to site-based staff, and monitors, inspects, and reviews work performed by contractors. TYPICAL DUTIES Supervises, plans, assigns, schedules, inspects, and certifies completion of operations performed by District and contract personnel involving the construction, maintenance, repair, and alteration of facilities. Directs Monitors the fiscal management of the unit. Develops, reviews, and revises work schedules with the concurrence of other craft supervisors, principals, and administrators. Plans, coordinates, and schedules projects with community representatives, contractors, vendors, and the public. Prepares correspondence, reports, procedures, and policies. Provides emergency responses and related services to minimize safety hazards to students, employees, and the public. Trains and orients work crews in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and materials, and implements safe work practices. 10 LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS DESCRIPTION PERSONNEL COMMISSION Class Code 3126 Unit S DEFINITION ELECTRICAL TECHNICAL SUPERVISOR Provides technical direction over electrical operations of the District, including control of specifications, procedures, and new product and equipment evaluations. TYPICAL DUTIES Provides technical advice to District designers, craft supervisors, inspectors, and contracting architects and engineers regarding fabrication, installation, and maintenance of electrical and electro-mechanical systems. Establishes, directs, and participates in the development and maintenance of quality standards for procedures, tools, materials, and equipment used in electrical work fabrication and installations. Supervises and participates in the development of task standards, job specifications, working drawings, and guides for work methods and procedures. Insures adherence to established standards by performing inspections and meeting with craft supervisors and seniors to inform them of deviations from standards and corrective action required. Monitors deferred maintenance projects by establishing long-range priorities and adjusting schedules as required, determining the unit to prepare designs, maintaining status records, coordinating projects with construction units, and maintaining expenditure records. Devises and conducts tests of materials, tools, and equipment to measure durability and assure conformance with building codes, fire regulations, and District specifications. Supervises the preparation of lists for use in purchasing of standard materials and equipment. Confers with governmental and District personnel regarding fire safety, environmental, structural, and other design requirements. Coordinates and assists in planning, scheduling, and selecting equipment and materials for installation or renovation projects with school personnel, sales representatives, utility representatives, and government officials. Reviews contracts and District designs for electrical work for conformance with approved standards and specifications. Prepares cost estimates for work projects. Assists in the preparation of the annual maintenance budget for regular and deferred maintenance projects. Approves requisitions for stock and nonstock materials and reviews low-value purchase orders for compliance with established standards. Provides technical expertise for the District Energy Conservation Unit. Analyzes problem situations and develops solutions by adapting techniques and materials. Reviews new products and materials and evaluates new products for efficiency and practicality. 12 ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency, and including two collegelevel courses in supervision, business management, personnel management, construction technology or craft-related subjects. Successful completion of the LAUSD Supervisory Training Program offered by Organizational Excellence may be substituted for a college-level supervision course. Experience: Five years of journey-level experience as an electrician in the fabrication, installation, and the maintenance of electrical systems, including two years of supervisory experience or two years as a Los Angeles Unified School District Senior Electrician. Special: Employment is subject to medical clearance. Positions in this classification are subject to pertinent provisions of the General Industry Safety Orders of the California Code of Regulations regarding protective equipment when exposed to hazardous materials, including, by not limited to, asbestos and lead. 13 LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS DESCRIPTION PERSONNEL COMMISSION Class Code 3321 Unit E DEFINITION ELECTRICIAN Performs electrical construction skilled electrical work in the installation, repair, service, alteration, and maintenance of District tasks on a variety of electrical systems and equipment. TYPICAL DUTIES Lays out, assembles, installs, tests, maintains, services, and repairs such items as conduits, meters, panels, control boards, sensors, motors, lights, fans, heaters, fire alarms, bell and buzzer systems, field lighting systems, clock systems, telephone systems, switchboards, and wall, floor, and ceiling receptacles. Installs interior and exterior wiring for equipment and appliances and cuts, drills, and channels concrete floors and walls for conduits and related installations or repairs. Bends and threads conduit and installs wires and cables in conduits. Prepares reports pertaining to the testing and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment. Prepares job estimates and sketches of work required. May climb ladders and poles to install or repair lamps. May assist a Senior Electrician in planning and developing modifications to existing electrical systems. May assist in preparing specifications, diagrams, and blueprints. May assist in making estimates of costs of material and labor. Performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS AMONG RELATED CLASSES An Electrician performs electrical construction, installation, repair, and maintenance tasks with a variety of electrical systems and equipment related to light, heat, communications, and power. A Craft person performs the journey-level work within their specific discipline in a designated Maintenance and Operations area. A Senior Craft person assists a supervisor or manager in managing overseeing the overall respective operations in District facilities a designated Maintenance and Operations area. An Apprentice Electrician assists an Electrician and performs duties gradually progressing from unskilled to skilled while learning the electrical trade by means of a program of on-the-job training and formal instruction. SUPERVISION General supervision is received from an Area Electrical Supervisor. a craft supervisor or manager. Work direction is received from a Senior Electrician. Special: Prior to employment, all successful candidates will be required to pass an asbestos medical examination in compliance with the General Industry Safety Orders of the California Code of Regulations. TYPICAL DUTIES Installs, repairs, and replaces hot-water, high- and low-pressure steam, and direct gas-fired heating systems; chilled-water and direct-expansion air conditioning systems, including condensers and cooling towers; variable refrigerant flow systems; and pressure cooking equipment. Installs, repairs, and replaces pipes, traps, boilers, pumps, valves, coils, radiators, air and refrigeration compressors, space heaters, furnaces, vents, fans, blowers, safety controls, and related equipment. Installs, tests, checks, adjusts, repairs, and replaces temperature and combustion controls, instruments and systems. Determines the amount and type of material and makes simple sketches for the emergency repair of heating and air conditioning equipment.
