17 Did You Know? You can use free or very inexpensive bibliographic management tools to keep track of the information sources you discover during your research to automatically create bibliographies that can be inserted into research papers and reports.

22 Graduate students are an instrumental part of each of the goals of USF (Tampa) that focus on: Producing well-educated and highly -skilled global citizens Research and innovation A Strong and Sustainable Economic Base Partnerships

23 What is the mission of the Graduate School? Our mission is to serve as the university hub of leadership for graduate educationproducing global leaders ONE SCHOLAR AT A TIME.

24 The Graduate School is aligned with the Office of Research and Innovation to provide many interdisciplinary research opportunities for our graduate students.

25 Examples include: Participation in Research Events and Activities Participation in the interdisciplinary Student Research Challenge Grants Participation in several research award competitions Opportunities for several fellowships, including Fulbright and others.

26 Our Building a Leader series where graduate students take courses, attend seminars and workshops, and have access to online information that will build academic and career professional development skills has been very successful.

27 The Doctoral Leadership Institute allows students to learn multifaceted leadership skills, receive one-on-one mentoring, and develop individualized leadership plans for the future.

29 KNOW THE RULES OF THE GRADUATE SCHOOL AND YOUR PROGRAM DO NOT ASSUME UNDERGRADUATE RULES APPLY BECAUSE THEY USUALLY DON T! Communicate, communicate, communicate we must hear you to help and so you can learn. Plan for success!! Always be ethical.

30 Start thinking outside of the box now so you can create new knowledge for your field or discipline. You are not here to parrot others. Publish, publish, publish (Did I say publish?) in respected and peer-reviewed journals and other publications. Make every course and paper count-view every written assignment as a potential manuscript for publication/a professional presentation/ and/or a grant application.

31 Attend and present at professional meetings and conferences. Network, network, network, within your discipline locally, statewide, nationally, and globally. Attend professional development workshops offered by the Graduate School and others. Serve on university committees to learn the workings of USF and have your voice heard!

32 Enroll early for courses and maintain a 3.00 to avoid academic probation. Become vested in our Becoming a Leader series. Become a Graduate School Ambassador. Try your best to be a full-time student. Set goals for each semester and year and plan for progress. Work hard and graduate earlier than you plan! Make graduate school your top priority-it will be your future.

33 Be adventurous and seek out multiple educational opportunities such as study abroad programs through USF World. Find opportunities to work in teams and learn effective teamwork skills. Remember that you will need to be resilient to be successful so stay healthy and practice wellness. Reach out for help when needed. Come to your graduation and keep in touch with us as alumni.

34 Your credentials can only carry you so far: What sets you apart from other applicants for positions? Experience AND Ability to work as part of a team So it is important to build portfolios and other documents that showcase your skills and knowledge.
