However, our expectation and definition of success has evolved over time and dental practitioners are now faced with the challenge of long term changes in the surrounding soft and hard tissues. This presentation will explore the factors that influence long and short term implant success. should be aware of: - The long term changes in the implant s surrounding tissues. - The Long term expectation in soft tissue esthetics. - The complication resulting from poor implant placement and possible solutions. - Long term results in implant restorations from predictable treatment planning. - Abutment selection. 5 FACULTY Scott Di Lorenzo, DDS, MAGD, ABGD Scott C. Di Lorenzo, D.D.S. is Associate Professor of Prosthodontics at the Creighton University School of Dentistry in Omaha, Nebraska. He joined the faculty in 1998 following career service in the Air Force Dental Corps where he retired with the rank of colonel. He earned his DDS from Creighton University in 1977 and completed a 2-year residency in general dentistry at the Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. He has attained Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry and is a Diplomate of both the American Board of General Dentistry and the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry. Dr. Di Lorenzo also maintains a restorative dental practice in Omaha. Andrea Hall, B.S., DDS Dr. Andrea Hall is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at Creighton University and part-time practicing Prosthodontist in Omaha, Nebraska. She earned her B.S. in Microbiology at Iowa State University and D.D.S. degree from Creighton School of Dentistry in After graduation, Dr. Hall moved to Los Angeles to train at UCLA in the specialty of Prosthodontics. She earned her Prosthodontic certificate in June of Zhimon Jacobson, DMD, MSD Dr. Zhimon Jacobson completed his general practice residency at the Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois and subsequently graduated from Boston University School of Dental Medicine with a Masters of Science from the Prosthodontic Department. Dr. Jacobson was clinical director of the Postgraduate Prosthodontics from In 1990, he established the Center for Implantology at Boston University where he served as director from In 2001, Dr. Jacobson was named Director of the Division of Continuing Education at Boston University. In addition to his dual roles as director, Dr. Jacobson is a Clinical Professor of Prosthodontics in the Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials. Dr. Jacobson also maintains a private practice in Boston, MA and lectures both nationally and internationally. Takanari Miyamoto, DDS, CAGS, MSD, Ph.D., MBA Currently, Dr. Miyamoto serves as Creighton s department Chairman, Director of Pre-doctoral Periodontics and is an adjunctive faculty member at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln College of Dentistry. Dr. Miyamoto is a recipient of the Bud and Linda Tarrson Fellowship, offered through the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation, which is the most prestigious career development award offered to academic periodontists in the United States. In addition, he has been named an Evidence-Based Champion by the American Dental Association and has received the Education Award of Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring Periodontics from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). He holds the Charles W. Finely Visiting Scholar Award from the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation (AAPF). He has also served as an editorial board member for the Journal of Oral Science and is a member of the Honor Dental Society Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He is also a diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology. Kristin McCarville, B.S., DDS, M.S. Dr. Kirstin McCarville is currently an Associate Professor of Prosthodontics at Creighton University School of Dentistry. She received her B.S. in Biology and D.D.S. from Creighton University. She completed a one-year AEGD residency and practiced two years in an Oncology Dental Support Clinic at UMKC School of Dentistry. From , she joined the Creighton faculty in the Prosthodontic Department. In June 2013 she completed her certificate in Prosthodontics and Masters Degree in Oral Biology, at the University of California, Los Angeles. This summer she completed her final year of training in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics at UCLA. Timothy McVaney, DDS, M.S., FACD, FICD, FASGD Dr. Tim McVaney is a 1974 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln College of Dentistry, where he also earned his Masters of Sciences in Periodontics. He joined Creighton School of Dentistry as an adjunct professor in the Department of Periodontics in He served as Director of Continuing Education from 1992 to 1998, and became an Assistant Professor of Periodontics in In 2001, Dr. McVaney was named course director of Anxiety and Pain Control and the director of Surgical Implant Dentistry at Creighton s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery while serving as interim Vice-Chair in In returning to full time private practice in 2007, he remained a Clinical Professor -donated services from In 2012, while maintaining his private practice, he returned as an Associate Professor and Director of the Surgical Section of Implant Dentistry and the Course Director of the Faculty Development Program for Dental Implant Integration into General Dentistry and Dental Diagnostic Services. Dr. McVaney is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a Fellow in the American College of Dentistry, the International College of Dentistry, and the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry. He is a past president of the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry, a past Chairman of the Board of the Federation of Special Care Organizations in Dentistry and a past Chairman of the Board of Delta Dental of Nebraska. Timothy Walker, A.A., B.S., DDS, M.S. Dr. Walker is an Assistant Professor of oral maxillofacial radiology in the department of Diagnostic Sciences. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with BS 81, he then graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry and granted his DDS in 85. Dr. Walker served in the United States Navy as a dental officer from 1990 until In 1995 built his private dental practice in southwest Omaha. After the sale of the dental practice in 2009, he returned to school at the University of Texas Health Science Ctr., San Antonio earning his Master of Science degree in diagnostic sciences with a certificate in Oral Maxillofacial Radiology. Upon graduation returned to Omaha and began his teaching career here at Creighton University School of Dentistry in He is a member of the Omaha District Dental Society, Nebraska Dental Association, American Dental Association, American Academy of Oral-Maxillofacial Radiology, and the American Equilibration Society. Research and clinical interests are in TMJ imaging and developing quality assurance protocols for intraoral digital radiography. Participants can download and print the presentations prior to the conference, or follow along on their own laptop during the conference.
