4 Desigo PX: the scalable automation system The Desigo PX automation system meets all the requirements associated with the control and monitoring of heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems and other building services. The most striking features of Desigo PX are the scalability of the system with its programmable automation stations and graded range of operator units, and the system's openness. Investment costs are limited to those system components that are actually needed. This innovative approach allows phased expansion of Desigo PX into a building automation and control system as and when required. BACnet communications for maximum openness Desigo PX sets new standards in relation to present and future communications technologies. The use of BACnet /LonTalk or BACnet/IP underlines the openness of our systems and our utilization of the latest communications technologies. 5 Made-to-measure operator units The various operator units in the Desigo PX range more than satisfy all the various requirements in terms of location and function. Web client PXM10 and PXM20 operator units The plant can be monitored and operated from a Web client via a Web controller. In the event of a fault, the Web controller transmits SMS messages and allows remote diagnostics via Web client. The PXM10 and PXM20 operator units, which can be optimized for different categories of user (e.g. resident engineer), offer users an easy means of checking the operation of the building services plant or of modifying the comprehensive time schedules to take account of changes in occupancy. Touch panels PXM40 (10.1") and PXM50 (15.6") Unique operator interface, optimized for touch operation. Clear structuring of operating functions and navigation provide for easy and efficient operation. A family of programmable automation stations PXC automation stations The D-MAP programming language With the PXC family of programmable automation stations, Desigo PX offers maximum flexibility in the control and monitoring of building services systems. Comprehensive system functions such as alarm management, time scheduling and trend data storage cover all the requirements associated with the operation of a building. The distributed automation stations, available in two categories, operate autonomously. Communication is via the open BACnet protocol. Professional software tools are available for engineering and other processing of the automation stations. The starting point for the engineering of the program functions is the range of userfriendly application blocks and function blocks in the new programming language D-MAP (Desigo Modular Application Programming). D-MAP is optimized for building services applications and is based on the IEC 1131 standard. The graphical user interface of the software tools ensures an efficient approach. Scope for phased expansion The Desigo PX automation system can be expanded step by step into a full building automation and control system. Desigo Insight Desigo RXC / thirdparty products: Integration via System- Controller Ethernet/IP LAN backbone The Desigo Insight management station offers convenient multi-user operation system wide. It can be connected to Desigo PX via Ethernet/IP, LonTalk / LONWORKS or by modem. Desigo RXC room controllers can be integrated seamlessly into the automation level via the system controllers. Third-party subsystems, such as fire detection systems, intruder protection, lighting or refrigeration plant, can be integrated simply and cost-effectively into Desigo PX. All parts of the plant can be interconnected via router and Ethernet/IP LAN. The automation stations also communicate directly on Ethernet/IP, allowing costeffective use of the existing IT infrastructure for Desigo PX. 3BDesigo PX: the scalable automation system / 30

6 Monitoring, operation and display Alarm management An important factor for the efficient operation of plant is the alarm management system, which ensures early identification of problems in the plant and initiates automatic strategies to help prevent any resulting damage. General alarm mechanisms Desigo PX is based on the BACnet standard. With three types of alarm, Simple, Basic and Extended, the method of handling and acknowledging alarms can be matched to the plant technology. The alarm message is accompanied by vital information which helps the building occupant to locate the cause of the fault. Additional information in text form is automatically added to the alarm message. Alarms are identified with a date and time stamp. Technical staff can see exactly where the alarm originated in which plant, which aggregate and which component. Automatic information for the plant operator: Many building services installations are not continuously monitored by technical staff. 7 Overview of plant faults The plant operator can use the Alarm Viewer function to display all active alarms and their current status. Alarm Viewer in PXM20 Alarm Viewer via PX-WEB Web operation Alarm Viewer in PXM40/50 Alarm functions Simple alarm Basic alarm Extended alarm The standard "Simple" alarm triggers certain reactions in the automation station, e.g. equipment is switched off, valves are opened, etc. At the same time, the alarm message is transferred to the specified target operator units and output devices. There is no need for the alarm to be acknowledged by the customer; however, the display or the pop-up window of the operator unit can be deleted. "Basic" alarms are used for important alarms which require the operator to check the cause manually. When an alarm occurs, the automation station triggers the appropriate reactions, such as automatic switch-off, opening of valves, etc. The alarm message is simultaneously saved and transmitted to display units such as local operator units or management stations, as defined in the alarm distribution system. The alarm must be acknowledged. The "Extended" alarms, for safety functions, are an expansion of the basic alarm function. With these alarms, the operator must not only acknowledge the incoming alarm but also, after checking the cause of the alarm and clearing the fault, reset the alarm to return the plant to normal operation. This alarm mechanism offers double security and is especially suitable for safetycritical plant. Safety aspects To avoid the loss of alarms in transit, all transmitted alarms are monitored for transfer and receipt. Any information about faulty transmissions is saved. 4BMonitoring, operation and display / 30

8 Alarm visualization When an alarm is displayed, the user can see the relevant information at a glance. The display format is uniform throughout the system. Displaying the plant status The building operator can obtain an overview of the status of the building services plant at any time, in order to initiate any necessary actions. The overview includes the most important current values, plant status and setpoints. For a quick and simple overview, the building operator can quickly identify the current values in the building services plant from the list of the most important values, and can then initiate the required actions, based on the plant status displayed (e.g. OFF). Alternatively, the building operator can obtain the required information displayed directly in a plant graphic page, via a standard Web client and customer-specific or plant-specific overviews. These graphics-based overviews can also be easily created or customized by the operator. 9 Monitoring the plant with trend functions To check the dynamic response of the building services plant, trend functions are provided which the user can set up as required, to monitor critical equipment or to log relevant data for further processing. To do this, the user simply defines which data points are to be monitored and how frequently. The trend functions can also be combined with other system functions. Trend logging can be stopped, for example, at a predefined time or when an alarm event occurs. The logged data is available for analysis at a later date. With the PXM20, the user has a simple means of logging up to five data series and displaying them, two at a time, in graph form. Trend data can be transferred to Desigo Insight. Checking the dynamic response of the plant using the PXM40/50 or a Web client Global data Every automation station contains all the data necessary for stand-alone operation. The same applies to shared data such as date/time or calendar information which is identical for several or all automation stations. To avoid having to update changes in parameter settings separately in each automation station, the shared data is treated as "global data" and handled centrally. 4BMonitoring, operation and display / 30

10 Scheduler/Calendar The time control of procedures and processes is one of the daily basic functions of a building automation and control system. Ventilation, heating, air conditioning, lighting, door locks etc, are controlled on the basis of opening times and working hours in buildings such as offices, banks, restaurants, department stores and schools. Scheduler programs ensure that lights are switched off automatically at the end of the working day, and that the temperature setpoint in the building is reduced at night. These schedulers can also be used to ensure that offices are not airconditioned during public and works holidays, and that plant is not kept running for longer than necessary. All scheduler programs are directly saved and processed locally at the automation level. Thus full synchronization of individual processes is ensured at all times. Optimum scheduling helps save energy and extend the life of the plant. In practice, building operators do not exploit this potential to the full, because the time scheduling in their systems is too complex and lacking in clarity. Data access rights Access rights provide the convenience of filtering information according to the individual user requirements. This means, for example, that the resident engineer or service engineer only has access to the information actually needed to do the job. A distinction can also be made between read access and write access. Certain users may be able to read a value but not modify it, while other users may have extended access rights, enabling them both to read and to modify values. Information to which a user has no access is not displayed to that user on the PXM20 operator unit. Access levels Within the system there are four basic categories of access, ideally matched to individual user groups. The more experienced the users, the greater the amount of information to which they have read and write access. These access rights can, however, be modified at any time to suit a specific project. Up to seven access levels can be defined. The basic rule is that users with a given access level have access to all values at their own level and at all access levels below their own. Remote management The Desigo system allows the remote management of building services plant, both from a Web client and with the Desigo Insight management station. 12 Operation at the automation level Desigo Touch and Web The PXG3.W100 web interface is the central access point to operate the automation level. It allows for simultaneous operation via different operator units and supports both connection of Desigo touch panels PXM40 / PXM50 as well as access via devices using the standard web browser. The Desigo touch panels PXM40 / PXM50 are intended for mounting in control panel doors. They are used together with the PXG3.W100 web interface. They allow for intuitive operation of several Desigo PX automation stations as well as permanent monitoring of technical installations in buildings. TCP/IP is used for communicaton. As a BACnet client, the PXM20/20-E automatically reads the data from the Desigo PX automation stations. It is therefore always up to date and can be replaced while the system is in operation. The operator unit has a high-resolution illuminated display for graphics and text, keys for operation, and a common alarm indicator with an audible signal. The operator unit can be mounted remotely for compact and modular automation stations in the control panel door. The clearly arranged function buttons and fast access buttons ensure correct operation, even by inexperienced users. The unit incorporates user-friendly "one-button" operation and a high-quality display panel. 18 The compact automation stations The mounting technique and the fixed configuration of integrated I/Os in the compact series automation stations make them ideal for control of small and distributed plant. The I/Os in these automation stations can be adapted to various types of signal. The automation stations are installed in the control panel. The operator units are connected to BACnet, PPS bus or HMI connection. 19 Automation stations modular series PXC..D The modular series PXC..D automation stations with its free I/O configuration and DIN compliant construction are optimized for panel assembly. It primarily controls and monitors larger items of plant. The flexible TX-I/O modular product range for signaling, measuring, metering, switching and positioning can be seamlessly connect to the automation station. The I/O modules with local manual controls on the module housing provide the plant operator with simple manual operation of the plant directly in the control panel. This local manual control is automatically transmitted as a remote/local signal to the automation station and associated operator units. In an emergency, they operate independently of the automation station, providing stand-alone emergency operation. 21 Desigo TX-I/O modules Desigo TX-I/O modules, which provide the interface to the devices at the field level, the sensors and actuators. They communicate with connected Desigo PX modular automation stations and can be interconnected in application-specific configurations. A space-saving, flexible product range of compact TX-I/O modules is available for signalling, measuring, metering, switching and positioning. The I/O module system is DIN compliant in design and optimized for panel mounting and supports decentralized, remote module installations. The TX-I/O modules have LEDs or optional LCD displays with signal and warning display programs to indicate the state of the plant and can be manually or emergency operated depending on the module type. The integrated isolating-terminals facilitate the hardware test carried out during commissioning. The combination of Desigo TX-I/O modules with proven PTM modules within a plant is also possible without a problem. 23 Desigo tools Professional software tools and a wide range of proven application blocks are available for engineering and processing the automation stations. Desigo Xworks Plus The engineering tool Desigo Xworks Plus offers user-friendly software tool that are easy to use and geared to technical processing of customer projects. They include planning, configuration, commissioning and final adjustment of the automation station with the associated program. A variety of report functions are available for documentation purposes. Thanks to its intuitive design of Desigo Xworks Plus, makes it easy to begin working with the time without time-consuming training. Various processes are consistently supported depending on whether you are working with standardized Desigo application libraries or setup the program using data points. Flexible programming Moreover, Desigo Xworks Plus provides tools that flexibly program, together with the Desigo application library, individual solutions as well as parameterization and commissioning. The CFC Editor is used as a basis for this work. Data exchange is continous for distributed work on various user groups within the project. Data only needs to be entered once and is always consistent. Functions for project management are available such as creating and archiving projects as well as check in/out of project data for commissioning. As a comprehensive engineering tool, Desigo Xworks Plus also establishes network topology, integrates third-party systems up to the planning of room automation systems. 24 Programming with D-MAP The D-MAP programming language (Desigo Modular Application Programming) for Desigo PX ensures efficient programming and parameter setting for building services plant. D-MAP is optimized for building services applications. The control strategies required for and best suited to efficient operation are implemented using graphics-based data flow programming. Efficient engineering with blocks and compounds The project-specific HVAC applications are configured, programmed, commissioned and maintained using the CFC Editor. The CFC Editor is a graphics editor based on block and data flow techniques. Predefined and tested application programs are assembled to create compound structures (referred to simply as compounds ), and these are then made available in the libraries. Creating the CFC chart with the CFC Editor DMAP programming features The basic elements of D-MAP programming are blocks and "compounds" (compound functional units). These are stored in libraries. To create a D-MAP program, the blocks and compounds for the required functions are put together in the CFC Editor. This process involves creating instances (of blocks) or copies (of compounds) from the libraries The flow of data between blocks is programmed by interconnecting the "pins" (inputs and outputs) of various blocks 24 / 30 7BDesigo tools

27 Expansion with the Desigo RX room automation system Desigo RXC is a room automation system for room-by-room control of HVAC plant, lighting and blinds. The range consists of compact and modular room controllers and programmable room units which can be adapted to the functions in the rooms. Standard applications The proven standard applications ensure an ideal range of functions and optimum reliability. The downloadable applications can be adapted quickly and cost-effectively to any changes in room use. Individual standard applications can be commissioned efficiently with a clear and comprehensible software tool. The room controllers communicate with the Desigo room units and other LONMARK compatible devices via the standard LonTalk/LONWORKS or KNX S-Mode (EIB) bus system.
