Illuzzi, a Republican, has been a member of the Senate since He was Assistant Minority leader from and , and Assistant Republican leader from and He has served as chair of the Senate Institutions Committee since 1991 and has served on a number of other committees including Judiciary, Agriculture, General Affairs and Housing, Finance, and Government Operations. SCOPE AND CONTENT These records are Senator Illuzzi's reference files from and 2003, the bulk dating from Types of material include newsclippings, memos, correspondence, notes, testimony and reports. Although these files do not contain all the records of Senator Illuzzi during this time period, they cover a wide range of issues and provide a glimpse of the work of an important and powerful Senator. Much of the material concerns issues before the Senate Institutions Committee. There are analyses of the space needs of several court houses, material on asbestos in state buildings, the closing of the Brandon Training School, energy conservation in state buildings and upgrading state buildings to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act. There is substantial material on Corrections including a work camp proposal, the privatization of Corrections, the Carriger prison death, statistics on the Vermont prison population and reports concerning prisoners and mental health. Some of the other subjects covered are the Abenaki burial grounds, Family Leave bills, affordable housing for the disabled, health care reform, and the use of mountaintops for the purpose of electronic communications. The Budget file is significant, with correspondence about the budget crisis (late 1980's - early 1990's) from Governors Snelling and Kunin.
