3 Steven Glapa Senior Director, Product Marketing and Channels Ruckus Wireless Product Information ZoneDirector 1100 Supporting from 6 to 50 ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi access points, the Ruckus ZoneDirector 1100 is the first centrally managed multimedia Wireless LAN (WLAN) solution controller developed specifically for small-to-medium businesses (SMBs). With the Ruckus ZoneFlex family of multimedia Wi-Fi access points, the ZoneDirector 1100 provides a complete, secure, robust and easily expandable WLAN solution at a low total cost of ownership. ZoneFlex 7300 Series The Ruckus ZoneFlex 7300 is family of Smart Wi-Fi n access points designed for midrange enterprise applications. The line includes a dual-band (2.4 / 5 GHz) access point (ZF7363) with three Ethernet ports and two single band (2.4GHz) models (ZF7343 and 7341). The 7343 supports three Ethernet ports while the 7341 supports a single Ethernet ports. All ZoneFlex 7300 series APs support standard 802.3af power over Ethernet. Unlike competitive APs, the ZoneFlex 7300 combines patented adaptive antenna array and automatic interference mitigation technologies to deliver consistent, predictable performance at extended ranges with 4dBi of signal gain and 10dB of interference rejection. ZoneFlex 7962 Designed for high-end enterprise environments, the Ruckus ZoneFlex 7962 is the industry s top performing dual band n access point, delivering ultra-high speed, reliable and long-range connectivity within challenging RF - 3 -
4 environments. Unlike competitive APs, the ZoneFlex 7962 combines a patented, dual-polarized adaptive antenna array and automatic interference mitigation technologies to deliver consistent, predictable performance at extended ranges with 10dBi of signal gain and 17dB of interference rejection. Architecture Overview Ruckus Wireless Wi-Fi infrastructure augments wired deployments without disrupting them. The ZoneFlex system is optimized for real-time multimedia transmissions providing adaptive Wi-Fi signaling, interference rejection and sophisticated quality of service mechanisms to ensure ideal voice quality. The ZoneFlex system uses patented heuristics to automatically identify, classify, queue and schedule latency-sensitive traffic. The only system to integrate an adaptive multi-element antenna array within each access point, the Ruckus ZoneFlex system provides four queues for each client device to ensure fairness and consistent performance
5 Requirements, Certification and Limitations The Ruckus Wireless infrastructure is a self-contained (appliance) system. To operate, it requires a standard networking environment that includes an Ethernet switch to plug into and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server to allocate addresses. Specific certifications required to operate in particular countries are available directly from Ruckus Wireless. 8 Configuration Overview The steps to set up the ZoneFlex products are documented in the ZoneFlex Quick Start Guide (available online at They include: 1. Connect and discover the ZoneDirector (through UPnP on a PC or Bonjour on a MAC) 2. Follow the simple steps outlined using the simple Web wizard 3. Connect the ZoneFlex APs to your local area Ethernet network 4. Use your ZoneFlex WLAN You ll need a Windows XP/Service Pack 2-equipped PC with Sun Java Runtime Environment (v5 or later) installed on the administration PC, and a Web browser; either Internet Explorer (v6 or later) or Mozilla Firefox (v1.4 or later). You ll also need to know the IP address, netmask, gateway and Domain Name System (DNS) server addresses assigned to the ZoneDirector if it has a static network address. ShoreTel Configuration It is assumed that the ShoreTel IP PBX and the ShoreTel Mobility Router are configured and otherwise fully operational. To ensure interoperability, the TOS setting used to classify voice traffic should match between the ShoreTel IP PBX and the Ruckus networking infrastructure. The Wi-Fi alliance recommendations for Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) settings are: As seen from the table, for voice priority (AC_VO) the recommended DSCP setting is 0x38 or 0x30, which translate to a TOS setting of 0xE0 or 0xC0. Ruckus AP automatically classifies traffic with a TOS marking of 0xE0 or 0xC0 to voice queue, 0xA0 or 0x80 to video queue. Other values to data queue. If traffic is not TOS marked (i.e. TOS = 0), heuristic classification will attempt to automatically classify the traffic by its patterns
9 TOS is configured on the ShoreTel IP PBX through the ShoreWare Director, navigate to Administration > Call Control > Options, as illustrated below. Since the numbers are in decimal, the TOS should be configured for 192 or 224. ShoreTel Mobility Router The ShoreTel Mobility Router (SMR) connects to the ShoreTel IP PBX using both line-side mode (for internal WiFi calls) and trunk-side mode (for cell calls via the SMR enterprise access and handover numbers). Features that this topology supports include short number dialing, automatic, (sub-100 msec) handover between WiFi and cellular networks, call forwarding, three-way conferencing, music on hold, RoamAnywhere Dual PersonaTM, Secure Remote Voice, Secure Enterprise Services, remote over-the-air provisioning, simultaneous ring of the desk phone and dual-mode devices. Additionally the SMR registers to the ShoreGear switch on the SIP line side as a SIP Extension on behalf of each of the mobile users. Note: Refer to the ShoreTel Mobility Router Solution Platform Supportability Guide for more information on supported handsets
