Please review the information in this mailing carefully as some will be relevant now and some after you arrive on campus. This final summer mailing includes materials that will help prepare you for a smooth transition to the University: a final summer checklist Stevenson Statement of Principles and Honor Code an abbreviated Stevenson Fall Welcome Weekend Schedule (A comprehensive campus-wide welcome week schedule will be available when you arrive in the fall.) Note the mandatory Fall Academic Orientation for transfer students is on Monday, September 23 at 1 pm (meet at Porter Quad at 12 pm.) MAJOR: As a transfer student, it is important that you begin work on your major as soon as possible since you are allotted a limited number of quarters of enrollment to complete your degree. If you are admitted as a junior or senior, you must officially declare your major no later than your second quarter of enrollment at UCSC (February 7, 2014). If you are a sophomore transfer, you must declare before reaching 90 credits. ACADEMIC PROFILE: To help us advise you throughout the year, please complete your Academic profile which can be found at (To access, please log into your UCSC account first and use the same browser to complete your profile.) Plan to submit your profile by September 20. NEW STUDENT PACKETS: If you are living on-campus, you will be able to pick up your New Student Packet when you check-in to your room. SAFE Slugs: Promoting Healthy Relationships in College MANDATORY Stevenson Event Center 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm This program is about the occurrence and impact of sexual assault and relationship violence on campus and what you can do about it: to prevent it, as a bystander to intervene, and as a friend to help someone who has been assaulted. Stevenson Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Stevenson Event Center - MANDATORY 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Alcohol and other drug use and misuse are national health problems that affect college students and our community, on and off campus. This session is designed to enable and empower students to make wellinformed decisions and create safer, healthier campus environments. Movie on the Knoll, The Lost Boys Stevenson Knoll 8:00 pm 11:00 pm Enjoy on outdoor viewing of The Lost Boys, filmed right here in Santa Cruz. Please bring blankets and jackets to stay warm. Popcorn and hot beverages will be provided. Sunday, September 22nd Analytical Writing Placement Exam Humanities 206 Lecture Hall 12:30 pm 3:30pm This exam is required of all entering frosh who did NOT take the May AWPE and did not satisfy ELWR via other means. Prepayment (or proof of fee waiver) is required for this test. 4 Monday, September 23rd Transfer Student College Advising & Welcome Porter Quad MANDATORY 12:00pm (ARRIVAL time) - 4:00pm Porter Quad An A-Z preparation for your college career led by the Stevenson College Advisors for all transfer students, both on and off campus. Meet in the Porter Quad/Transfer Community with the Orientation Leaders from Stevenson. From there you will be led to the MANDATORY College Advising program at the Stevenson Event Center where you will learn more about the college system and the resources and opportunities available to you. Please contact Stevenson Programs at or chhchoi@ucsc.edu in advance if you require accommodation from Porter to the Stevenson Event Center. Stevenson House Pride Games Day Stevenson Knoll & OPERS 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Come support your house with the OLs in this afternoon of sports & games! We hope this abbreviated schedule is helpful in preparing for your first days at Stevenson College. 5 Important Things To Do Before Fall Quarter Begins Stevenson College, UCSC If you have not already enrolled in classes, do it now! Don t count on being able to get into classes by crashing classes after they begin. If you have not yet enrolled, please refer to the UCSC Fall Enrollment Information you received from Stevenson College on June 18 for information about choosing and enrolling in classes. If you have questions, contact either your Program Adviser (if your questions are concerning major requirements or prerequisites) or a Stevenson College Adviser (if your questions are concerning general education, college, or other requirements). Verify that all of your final official transcripts and test scores have been received by the Office of Admissions. You can do this by checking your To Do list at my.ucsc.edu or by calling Please note that, if you have satisfied IGETC at your community college, IGETC certifications are not automatically included with an official transcript. Check with your community college and request that your IGETC certificate be sent in addition to your transcripts. Contact the Admissions Office immediately if you did not meet the conditions of your admission. Pay your registration and housing fees before the deadline. Bills were posted to your student portal on August 23, 2013 and registration and housing fees must be received at UCSC by 4:00 p.m. on September 19, 2013 (please note this is NOT a postmark deadline). Mail your fees early if possible; allow adequate time for the campus to receive your payment. Registration fees include an Undergraduate Health Insurance Fee. You must either pay the fee or request a waiver by submitting proof of comparable health insurance to the Student Health Center by the start of the quarter. For more information, contact the Student Health Insurance Office at (831) If you are under 19 years of age as of September 21, 2013, you must submit verification of immunization against Hepatitis B to the Student Health Center by September 1. If you have questions, call the Health Center at (83) or visit their website: If you are a financial aid recipient, be sure you have submitted all necessary documentation to the Financial Aid Office. If you re unsure about what their office needs from you, check your To Do list at my.ucsc.edu. Activate your free UCSC account. Information about UCSC accounts is available on the ITS (Information Technology Services) website: Most UCSC offices communicate with students through it s important that you activate your account, and that you check and respond to messages frequently.
