1 Types of Home Health Care Services You Need You may receive one type or many depending on your needs. Care may be provided by one source or by several sources. Work with your physician, clinic staff, or other health-care providers to determine your needs. Together, check the types of care you may need and the activities you may need help with. Skilled nursing care This may involve: wound care administering medications patient/family education monitoring health status giving injections or intravenous (IV) therapy inserting catheters Personal care You may need help: getting up and walking bathing dressing shaving or grooming going to the bathroom eating exercising checking vital signs
2 Types of Home Health Care Services Social work services Examples include: counseling for the patient counseling for family members help locating services financial assistance completing advance medical directives Chores/housekeeping This can include help with: changing linens doing laundry sweeping/vacuuming cleaning bathrooms preparing meals washing dishes Hospice care: Occupational therapy: You may need help: Services may include: preparing for the end of life education to help the patient eat, relieving pain bathe, dress and do chores around completing advance medical the home directives training family members to help
3 Types of Home Health Care Services (cont d) Physical therapy Speech therapy This may include: This often involves: exercises (such as range- swallowing treatments of-motion exercises) communication training instruction in the use of assistive instruction in the use of assistive devices (such as canes, walkers devices (such as communication and reaching devices) boards and hearing aids) help with artificial limbs patient education massage to help heal physical injuries pain relief Other services For example, you may also need: nutritional therapy respiratory therapy Your needs may change over time. Go back to these checklists any time your needs change.
