1 March 2015 Pal Alt University (PAU) Pal Alt University seeks an ambitius and charismatic academic entrepreneur t: elevate the institutin s undergraduate and graduate schl ranking, academic quality, admissins and financial strength recruit and retain exceptinal faculty, and build n an already strng reputatin fr research, student achievement and cmmunity service. Reprting t the Bard f Trustees, the functins as the University s chief executive fficer and is charged with direct respnsibility fr all prgrams, administratin and revenue, alng with versight f its faculty and leaders f Pal Alt University s varius supprt functins. The will directly versee all budgets, all recruitment and retentin, as well as all standards, plicies and prcedures assciated with varius departments. Additinally, the will represent the University as an ambassadr t internal and external cnstituencies. Pal Alt University perates under a shared gvernance mdel. PALO ALTO UNIVERSITY IN BRIEF Pal Alt University (PAU) is a private, nn-prfit university ffering students undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychlgy and cunseling. Funded in 1975 as the Pacific Graduate Schl f Psychlgy and first accredited in 1986 by the Western Assciatin f Schls and Clleges (WASC), Pal Alt University tk its current name in 2009 and has adpted the missin f Engaging Minds, Imprving Lives. In keeping with that missin, the schl seeks t cultivate innvative leaders wh advance knwledge thrugh research excellence, and wh use the skills acquired at Pal Alt University t help make ur wrld a better place. T that end, PAU maintains several reginal, natinal and internatinal prgrams and cllabratins. These include cllabrative partnerships with Stanfrd Schl f Medicine, the Department f Veterans Affairs, Pal Alt Medical Center and ther mental health care rganizatins, several Bay Area cmmunity clleges, and The Grnwski Center, a Universityrun rganizatin that delivers lw-cst mental health services t peple f limited means while als prviding valuable, supervised training t PAU graduate students; spnsrship f several academic centers devted t child mental health, evidence-based care fr LGBTQQ clients and Spanish-speaking clients, excellence in diversity and cmmunity care, and internet-based glbal healthcare; lcal clinical practicum training in China and Latin America fr students wh participate in nline PAU M.A. in Cunseling r Cunseling Psychlgy prgrams; and new prgrams t assist gencide survivrs in Rwanda.

The FY14-15 budget is $26 millin, with 97% funded thrugh tuitin and 1%-2% funded thrugh grants and cntributins. Pal Alt University has n debt and a small endwment. BASIC FUNCTION The s verarching pririty will be t cntinually and measurably elevate the stature f the University s undergraduate and graduate prgrams, drive student enrllment, and financially strengthen PAU as it pursues its missin. The will shape and versee all plicies and prcedures related t these matters, and will recruit, retain, manage and cultivate a capable team f administratrs and faculty wh are dedicated t the educatinal missin f Pal Alt University. The will wrk t strengthen PAU s reputatin, faculty, prgrams, research and services. This psitin is specifically crafted fr an ambitius leader wh will engage the best creative effrts f the university cmmunity t attain even higher levels f academic achievement and recgnitin. The is als respnsible fr accreditatin and fr the University s relatinships with the varius evaluatin and rating rganizatins, partners and influencers that are critical t PAU s success. Within the University there is strng supprt fr higher academic achievement. As an advcate and strategist fr academic excellence, the will engage the best thinking f the faculty in the planning required t evlve the University s academic prfile. In cllabratin with ther members f the senir management team and the faculty, the will shape and implement prgrams that create and supprt the infrastructure necessary fr faculty, researchers, schlars and students t advance knwledge and imprve the human cnditin. The will manage the verall budget fr all academic and nn-academic functins f the University. The will review hw the varius investments in infrastructure, physical assets, research and teaching advance the university s missin, and ensure that limited resurces are wisely managed. Engaging the talents f the Bard and Faculty, the will serve as an articulate and persuasive spkespersn fr PAU and its academic departments and persnnel. The will represent the University and its cnstituent prgrams t a brad range f internal and external cnstituencies, including ther universities and clleges, current and prspective faculty, students, parents and alumni, partner institutins, and members f a brad lcal, natinal and internatinal cmmunity. In particular, the will cultivate strng and supprtive relatinships internally and externally, and a desire amng academic leaders, researchers, faculty and funders t be clsely cnnected with PAU, leveraging web-based articulatin f its academic prgramming, research and accmplishments. The will serve as chief revenue fficer and fundraiser f the University, and will shape bth earned and cntributed revenue prgrams that strengthen PAU financially, minimize debt, build an endwment, fund capital prjects, and prvide the financial resurces needed fr expansin. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Pal Alt University has strategic initiatives designed t meet grwth bjectives and future pprtunities t cnstantly update its missin. T that end, the will be respnsible fr the fllwing: Leadership and Strategy Initiate and implement an inclusive strategic planning prcess, in cllabratin with faculty, staff, students and trustees, t ensure that grwth bjectives and future pprtunities are aligned with the missin; create measurements fr success and pprtunities fr recalibratin. Prvide leadership, which embdies the values that the University uphlds. Financial Management Oversee and manage the business and financial affairs f the University, including preparatin f the annual budget and managing peratins t ensure the cntinued financial viability and health f the institutin. Execute the annual budget in accrdance with the strategic plan. 3

4 Pal Alt University March 2015 Revenue Academic Affairs Student Affairs Maximize earned incme (tuitin, research grants and fees) with a strng and balanced cmmitment t the cntinued financial strength f the University, a cmmitment t serving lw-incme students, and research and educatinal excellence. Maximize cntributed revenue thrugh majr gifts frm individuals (including planned giving), business and crprate cntributins, lcal and natinal fundatins, cntributins assciated with events, endwment and restricted giving campaigns, direct mail and web-based giving. Drive and guide the University s effrts t develp and implement activities t identify, slicit, invlve and retain dnrs thrugh apprpriate stewardship, alumni and ther lyalty prgrams. Oversee the academic affairs f the University t ensure that the prgrams ffered and resurces emplyed are fulfilling the missin f the institutin and that they remain viable accrding t academic needs f the student ppulatin, develping needs f the field and accreditatin bdies (reginal WASC and APA prgrams). Prmte the free exchange f ideas in all areas f the University. Ensure cnsistent and respnsive delivery f high-quality prgrams/services in three areas: teaching, clinical skills and assessment, and research prjects. Ensure that PAU remains respnsive t the develpment and maintenance f student activities, admissins, registratin, recrds, academic prgress, cunseling, husing, placement, financial aid, and ther academic and nnacademic functins. Actively prmte a psitive student culture. Institutinal Effectiveness Direct the nging evaluatin f educatinal prgrams, student services, and University peratins; n the basis f such evaluatins, institute revisins f prgrams and services, with faculty and/r Bard apprval as apprpriate (cntinuus quality imprvement). Ensure cmpliance with current accreditatin standards and gvernmental regulatins. Develp and cmmunicate implementatin plans with specific gals, timeframes and resurce requirements. Establish and cultivate cllabrative partnerships with ther academic institutins, business crpratins, nnprfit rganizatins, federal, state and lcal gvernment agencies, and cmmunity leaders in supprt f the University s missin. Secure the Bard s trust and cnfidence; keep Bard members infrmed f the rganizatin s peratins; prvide timely and cncise financial and fundraising assessments; With the Bard Chair, crdinate the effrts f varius Bard cmmittees and task frces, develp Bard meeting agendas, schedules, retreats, rientatin fr new bard members and ther activities; attend meetings; encurage Bard members invlvement in a range f PAU s activities including fundraising; Develp and recmmend plicies and prcedures as requested by the Bard f Directrs; implement apprved Bard plicies, prgram gals and bjectives; prvide nging cmmunicatin t the Bard n critical matters related t PAU; Assist the Bard in identifying and recruiting new members whse talents, backgrunds, cmmitment, and fundraising abilities are cngruent with PAU s current and future needs. The ideal candidate will have the fllwing range f experience and qualificatins: Previus senir management and leadership respnsibility in an institutin such as a university, cllege, clinic r hspital that is knwn fr innvatin, quality educatin and imprtant research cntributins; strng experience in evlving academic standards and accelerating change that measurably elevates the academic stature f institutins is desired; An understanding f, and deep appreciatin fr, the wrld inhabited by students, university and cllege faculty, scientists, academics, teachers, practitiners and 5
