Build on the education and experience that you already possess, either in Canada or another country. If shift work, family responsibilities or unpredictable schedules are keeping you from your educational goals, either online or print-based Distance Learning is the ideal solution. Experience instructor-led study for those who cannot attend on-campus classes on a regular basis, but have a strong desire to continue their education. Online or print-based courses are available to offer you the ability to work at your own pace, typically within a six-month time frame. Print-based courses are best suited for you who work independently with minimal supervision. Each one of these courses is supported by study materials that are sent directly to you. Generally, both delivery methods (online and print-based) require that you attend the campus towards the end of your class to write a final exam. 8 Business Financial Planning Financial Planning 7053 A professional financial planner helps clients identify financial needs and objectives, and uses this information to develop a personalized program of savings and investments to help clients realize their goals. Centennial College, in partnership with CIFP, offers a Certificate in Financial Planning. The Canadian Institute of Financial Planners is a non-profit association of Canadian Certified Financial Planner Professionals. The association is an independent, effective and powerful advocate for the CFP certification marks and the financial planning profession in Canada. Our program is specifically for individuals who wish to become qualified professional financial planners, as well as those who simply want a better understanding of the complex financial world around them. Career opportunities may include but are not limited to financial planner, mutual fund representative, bank or trust company officer, discount brokerage investment representative, bank or trust company officer. Centennial College students will receive instructions on how to register and log on with CIFP to purchase the reference materials during their first class. Students are required to complete four courses (details below). Upon completion of the four courses, students will: 1. Participate in an online program review with CIFP 2. Write an in-class CIFP exam 3. Write FPE 1 certificate exam with FPSC CEFN-801 Retirement Planning CEFN-802 Risk Management and Estate Planning CEFN-803 Strategic Investment Planning CEFN-804 Income Tax Planning The Canadian Institute of Financial Planning (CIFP) CIFP is a distance learning education institute wholly owned by The Canadian Institute of Financial Planning. All CIFP programs are delivered through the CIFP web-based education portal. This innovative institute was developed to combine the strengths of traditional classroom-based learning and distance education learning into one web-based campus. We provide web-based programs for licensing and certification requirements in the financial services sector including financial planning and continuing education courses. The CIFP CFP Certification program is comprised of four core courses (Retirement Planning, Income Tax Planning, Strategic Investment Planning and Risk Management and Estate Planning) and the Program Review and Evaluation Course. This comprehensive Program fully prepares students to write the first (of two) CFP examinations [i.e. Financial Planning Examination Level 1 (FPE1 )] administered by the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC). The CIFP CFP Certification Program also provides a strong foundation of knowledge for students as they complete the CIFP FPSC-approved Capstone course and prepare for the second CFP examination [Financial Planning Examination Level 2 (FPE2 )] on the path to obtaining the CFP credential. Investment Services 7397 By completing this program, you will be well equipped to make necessary recommendations to help clients achieve their financial goals. You will gain credentials and knowledge needed in today s changing financial services industry. Upon completion of the program and associated industry exams, you may be eligible to write the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exam leading to the CFP designation. This program includes Financial Planning Certificate curriculum as well as two Canadian Securities Institute courses. Financial Advisors wishing to sell mutual funds may want to consider completing CCSC-103. Financial Advisors with an interest in stocks, bonds and mutual funds should consider completing CCSC-101 and CCSC-102. Employment opportunities exist with most financial institutions, including: banks, credit unions, brokerage firms and trust companies in various positions that may include, personal banker, financial advisor, mortgage and loans officer and self-employment as an independent financial planner. There are no prerequisites, however, prior investment experience or post-secondary training in finance is recommended. 10 Business Compliance and Governance 7520 This program is intended to provide the required knowledge and skills for adult learners currently employed or seeking employment in compliance departments in regulated industries. Compliance regulations flow from legislation which often impact a broad cross-section of industries which include banking/financial services, insurance, real estate, investment companies, and not-for-profit organizations. The curriculum will include an introduction to the legal framework, governance and compliance requirements for regulated industries, risk management and assessment, communications, meeting compliance requirements, preparing for an audit, as well as good governance practices.
