1 Outcomes Assessment Results For Academic Year: Section I: Student Learning Assessment Intended Student Learning Outcomes for (Program 1) : Student Learning Assessment for Bachelor of Science(B.S.) in Business Administration 1. Know the core areas of business: accounting, management, marketing, economics, and finance in a global context. 2. Analyze ethical issues that impact business decisions from economic, political, legal, and social perspectives. 3. Utilize technology skills to maximize managerial decision-making from the perspective of the organization. 4. Apply statistical analysis and other quantitative project management techniques to evaluate data, test assumptions, and apply conclusions to managerial decision-making. 5 Develop a Business Strategic Plan that integrates and applies all the core areas of business: accounting, management, marketing, economics, and finance in a global context. Direct Measures of Student Learning: Performance Targets/Criteria for Direct Measures: 1. ETS Business Subject Exam A random sample of a minimum of thirty (30) graduating seniors in the undergraduate Capstone course, Business Strategy (BUS460) will score at least 70% on the comprehensive examination. 2. Capstone course written project with oral presentation Utilizing a five (5)-point scale rubric with the Intended Student Learning minimum sample size if thirty (30) )from the Capstone course, Business Strategy (BUS 460), will achieve an Excellent Competency (i.e. Score of 5) or Good Competency (i.e. Score of 4) rating on each learning outcome-related evaluation criterion that is measured in each of the two Capstone course course critical assignments (i.e. written project and oral presentation). Note: For the Self-Study year , a three (3)- point scale was utilized in which students will achieve a Fully IACBE Annual Report:

2 Accomplished or Partially Accomplished rating. The Academic Assessment Committee approved the five (5)-point scale rubric for implementation beginning with the academic year. Indirect Measures of Student Learning: Performance Targets/Criteria for Indirect Measures: 1. Undergraduate Senior Salute Survey On the survey instrument, at least twenty-five percent (25%) of respondents indicated Yes to the question #19: If you have obtained a job, is it related to your Lynn University major?. 2. Undergraduate Six (6)-Month Alumni Survey On the survey instrument, at least fifty percent (50%) of respondents indicated Yes to the question #13: Is your current job related to your Lynn University major?. Summary of Results from Implementing Direct Measures of Student Learning: 1. There was a random sample of 26 students who completed more than 50% of the ETS examination. The mean percent correct answers for the 26 students ranged from 14% to 28%. A review of the ETS examination by the University Assessment Committee resulted in the recommendation to no longer utilize the ETS examination, as discussed below. Checkpoint assignments will be utilized as direct measures beginning Assessment results from indicated that 72% of the students showed excellent to good competency in knowledge in core areas of business: accounting, management, marketing, economics, and finance in a global context. The performance target was 80%. Summary of Results from Implementing Indirect Measures of Student Learning: 1. Of those who responded to this question, fifty percent responded that their job was related to their major. 2. Of those who responded to this question, 67 percent answered yes that their current job was related to their major; however, the number of r espondents was very small. 3 Proposed Courses of Action for Improvement in Areas for which Performance Targets Were Not Met: 1. Assessment results from indicated deficiencies in the ability of students to, develop a business strategic plan that integrates and applies all the core areas of business: accounting, management, marketing, economics, and finance in a global context. To address these deficiencies, a series of four (4) written critical assignments/essays were developed around the theme of the business plan. These critical assignments served as a unifying thread across the undergraduate business curriculum, and provided the progressive development of knowledge and skills that integrated content areas of business. Each of the four (4) critical assignments was embedded within relevant required business courses representative of the major tiers/levels of knowledge (i.e. 100-level, 200-level, 300-level, and 400-level). More specifically, the required course in Microeconomics (BUS170) incorporates the first critical assignment, which is tied specifically to the topic area: market structures. The second critical assignment is embedded within Principles of Marketing (MKT250), and focuses on marketing strategy. The third critical assignment is embedded within Managing Organizations (BUS270), and focuses on the management structure. Lastly, the fourth critical assignment is embedded within Financial Management (BUS311) and focuses on financial planning. Assessment results from indicated some student improvement in the student learning outcome referenced above. From these results, it appears that embedding critical assignments throughout each of the four years is working, but will require three additional years to fully realize the impact of this approach. 2. As part of the assessment analysis, improvements to the assessment process were re-affirmed by the University Assessment Committee, in regards to the utility of assessing the four Check-Point Courses leading up to the Capstone course. It was further agreed the ETS Business Exams were not an appropriate assessment tool and should no longer be used. These findings were communicated to the College of Business and Management, and approved. The rationale for not utilizing the ETS Business Exams in the future is that the teaching philosophy is more dedicated to hands on experiences rather than teaching facts and figures. 3. The College ofbusiness and Management will formally request that the University Assessment Committee work with the Center for Career Services to determine how to engage more alumni for completion of the Survey.
