1 Yorktown High School Syllabus Computer Graphics Mr. Fleischer Computer Graphics year, Grades 9-12 Prerequisite(s): none In this course you will explore the field of Computer Design and learn how to use a computer to make art,will become more aware of the impact of visual images around you,will become a more conscious participate/observer in society, will develop critical thinking skills,will learn the power of images,become aware of your ability to influence society through your graphic work, learn how to conceptualize your own ideas into effective Graphic Design, learn to create web sites through existing templates,learn to create original animated.gif files Supply List: To store the students digital images. A. 4gb.flash drive (bigger is fine) To capture students digital photographs OR a 4gb S.D. card C. $15.00 Equipment fee for the entire year. Check payable to Yorktown with students name on check. (If you are unable to pay the fee, please inform the Teacher. D. Digital cameras, computers with software will be supplied. E. Optional print lab expenses for Regional and National competitions. i.e. Costco Printing. F. Textbook Supplied, Graphic Design,Davis Publications G. Computers supplied with Adobe Photoshop CS6

2 Classroom Rules Be on time to class a) Get a pass from office or front desk if arriving late to school. Have all materials ready for class, prepared to work within first 4 minutes of class. Show respect to teacher and classmates. Follow directions the first time they are given. Raise your hand if you have a question. No food No CD, cell phones, window media, ipods, headphones, etc. Surfing the Internet and gaming on classroom computers not appropriate. If You Choose to Break A Rule First Time: Warning Name on board. Second Time: Call Home Name with #1. Third Time: Teacher/Parent Conference Name with #2. Fourth Time: Conference with Administrator Name with #3. Fifth Time: After School Detention for 45 minutes. Repeated disrespect and/or disruption of the classroom environment will be reported to parents and school administration. Rewards 1) Praise, Praise and more Praise! 2) Positive Notes Home [Parent/Guardian, coaches, counselors, etc; school.] 3) "Raise a Grade" certificate [monthly] 4) Drop Lowest Grade: Test / Homework / Class work [every quarter]. 5) The "Joy of Learning" [Each Day of the School Year] Late Work: Without an excused absence or excused school absence 10% deduction for specific assignment not turned in on time. Redoʼs of completed work are acceptable within 30 days of assignment deadline within the same quarter. These are the student requirements for success in our Digital Design class. You must complete weekly in class photographing, drawing and computer illustration assignments and a final project consisting of the students longer-term work. A visual journal will be kept with you. There will be a homework assignment at least every two weeks to help develop your ideas and learn about yourself as an artist in your journals. There will be a suggested format

3 to follow for your visual notebooks. In computer graphics, you are asked to explore the creative potential of Computer Graphics and to experiment with a variety of solutions to completing assignments. You must organize, edit and make basic adjustments to your images and objects on the computer. You are asked to work a minimum of several classes on postproduction for each assignment. You need to acquire fundamental technical skills with your camera and the computer. Participation in weekly class critiques is another requirement: Showing your work as well as contributing ideas and constructive opinions. Consistent progress toward completing class work and assignment is essential. I appreciate good student/teacher communication. Let me know right away if you are experiencing problems. Everyone can succeed in this class.
