Facebook has at least 400 million users every 24 hours. 350 million people use Facebook mobile. More than 24 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute. 5 Why should you care? Every day, an average of 15 million friend connections are made. Meanwhile, about 50 million business and customer connections are made! Who cares? Hiring managers do Okay, you get it. That s why you re here! How to take it to the next level 5

6 As an industry, we aren t presenting ourselves as professionally as we should! Don t use fuzzy logos. Create custom profile images, don t limit yourself to just your logo. Update your wall! Build a following. Create custom landing pages. Be on the lookout for timeline for company pages. Facebook: Profile Images You have space for more than your logo, use it! Facebook: Update Your Wall Twice a month isn t enough! Post jobs just don t overdo it! Share photos. Add trivia. Highlight your employee of the month. Post inspirational quotes. Add questions and answers. Link to helpful articles and resources. 6

Push your jobs out and use #hashtags. Follow other companies and people in your market. Retweet influencers posts and start a 1:1 dialogue. Get personal (but stay professional). Use Twitter s search tools to listen and generate leads. 8

9 Custom Backgrounds Use #Hashtags A #hashtag is a way for people to search for tweets around a central topic. For example: #CharlieSheen or: #dallas #jobs Lead Generation Twitter s advanced search can be used as a great lead generation tool. 9

10 LinkedIn has over 150 million professional members. It is one of (if not the) best databases of professionals in the world. Membership has increased by 200% since With LinkedIn going public, we may see some very interesting changes coming in the near future. What should you be doing? Build a complete personal profile. Use keywords. Connect with everyone you meet. Add applications. Update your status frequently. Participate in groups. Build a strong company page with recommendations. Your Profile & Connections 1. If this doesn t say 100% complete, fix it! 3. Update your status frequently. 2. Your profile is indexed by Google, use keywords! 4. If you don t have more than 500 connections, you re not trying hard enough! 5. Integrate everything you do online. 10

11 Building Connections 1. Import your database and send invites. 2. Use the People You May Know Tab. 4. After every meeting and call, find that person in LinkedIn and connect. 3. Send invites to group members. Add Applications Import your blog feed right to your profile. Add your reading list. Highlight presentations with SlideShare. Update Your Status Manually update. Link to Twitter. Keeps you top-of-mind. Helps social media efforts spread as shown in this example. 11

12 Participate in Groups Answering questions and posting discussions can position you as a thought leader and help build connections. Use the Spotlight to highlight promotions, offers, new services, etc. Share more detail about company divisions or services offerings and link back to your website.
