2 Tri-City Regional Fire & EMS School Dinwiddie Middle School March 12-14, 2016 The Virginia Department of Fire Programs and the Namozine Volunteer Fire and EMS Department, Inc will conduct the 7 th Annual Regional Fire and EMS School on March 12-14, All classes will be held on March 12 th and 13 th with the exception of the two HTR classes. The HTR classes will be held March 12 th 14 th. Registration Fee A $40.00 NON-REFUNDABLE registration fee is required to register for the Tri-City Regional Fire & EMS School. This registration fee covers school cost and the steak/shrimp feast on Saturday night (March 12 th ). Applications that have incorrect checks will be returned. Make checks payable to the Namozine Volunteer Fire and EMS. Registration Open registration will begin on January 25, Registrations will be taken online on the Fire Record Training System (FSTRS) on a first come, first served basis starting January 26 th. Paper registration forms will also be accepted after that date. Registration fees are due to VDFP within 10 calendar days of online registration or accompanying the paper registration form. Failure to receive payment will delete your online registration. Registration and fees shall be submitted by COB February 26, Check In and Opening Ceremonies All students must check-in at the Dinwiddie County Middle School between 7:15 AM and 8:00 AM on March 12, Opening exercises will begin promptly at 8:00 AM in the Auditorium. Classroom assignments will be provided at the conclusion of the opening exercises. The Saturday evening dinner will be held at the Old Town Civic Center which is located at 136 River Street, Petersburg. The food, drink, and fellowship will begin around 5:45 p.m. Door prizes will be given away. Please make sure to attend this enjoyable event. Directions: From the north take I-95 south to I-85. Take I-85 south to Exit 53. When you come off the ramp you will go right for approximately 1 mile to the intersection of Route 1. You will turn left and go approximately ¾ miles and turn right on Courthouse Road. The Dinwiddie Middle School is approximately 5 miles down Courthouse Road on the left. From the south take I-85 north to Exit 53. When you come off the ramp you will turn left and go approximately 1 mile to the intersection of Route 1. You will turn left and go approximately ¾ miles and turn right on Courthouse Road. The Dinwiddie Middle School is approximately 5 miles down Courthouse Road on the left.

4 2016 Tri City Regional School Class Descriptions Each class allowed 24 students registered Introduction to Technical Rescue, Module 2 Module 2 is a 24-hour introductory classroom and practical course addressing the job performance requirements of NFPA This course will require basic rescue skills in the low and high angle environments to include site operations; establishment of landing zones for helicopter operations; victim management; rope, knots, and anchoring systems. This course is designed for personnel who will actually serve on or in support of a technical rescue incident. Students will receive a VDFP Certificate of Attendance. Successful completion of Modules 1 is needed prior to registering for Module 2. Students must be 18 years of age and have completed a VDFP approved Hazardous Materials Awareness training program prior to attending. Surface Water, Level I This program meets or exceeds the requirements for NFPA 1006 Standard for the Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications, Chapter 11 Level I. The student will learn to perform at the Operations level as specified in NFPA 1670, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents, Chapter 9. This 20 hour program is designed to introduce students to the basic principles of surface water rescue of victims in confined water or water whose movement is less than 1 knot. Students will receive training in planning the response, proper PPE selection, information gathering, reach and throw rescue techniques, boat assisted rescue and recovery techniques and personal survival/self rescue skills. Students will be expected to demonstrate survival swimming skills with the use of a personal floatation device as part of the class. Students MUST be 18 years of age; Students must be a member in good standing with a recognized fire, EMS, or public safety agency/department to apply to attend; Successful completion of Virginia Department of Fire Programs Introduction to Technical Rescue, Module I & Module II and students shall be psychologically, physically, and medically capable to perform assigned duties and functions at technical search and rescue incidents and perform training exercises in accordance with the NFPA 1500 Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program, Chapter 10-Medical and Physical Requirements.
5 NFA - Shaping the Future This is 2-day course is designed to assist first -and second-level supervisors and Company Officers (COs) in developing knowledge and skills in contemporary approaches to organizational problem-solving. Topics include use of creative approaches to identifying trends within their organizations; applying problem solving methodologies; the importance and application of continuous improvement within organizations; how to quantify problems and solutions; factors in organizational and individual resistance to change; and strategies for implementing change. The course incorporates a facilitated learner-centered methodology including lecture, small and large group activities, and individual assessments. Basic Pump Operator The Virginia Department of Fire Programs Basic Pump Operations training program consists of 4 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours of practical evolutions. The Basic Pump Operations training program educates students through classroom instruction as well as hands on practical evolutions. The classroom instruction and props are designed to prepare the firefighter for basic pump operations. To ensure Basic Pump Operations students meet the program expectations, students must complete a written quiz administered at the end and complete the program s practical exercises. Rural Water Supply The Virginia Department of Fire Programs Rural Water Supply training program consists of 4 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours of practical evolutions. The Rural Water Supply training program educates students through classroom instruction as well as hands on practical evolutions. The classroom instruction and props are designed to prepare the firefighter for Rural Water Supply operations. To ensure Rural Water Supply students meet the program expectations, students must complete a written quiz administered at the end and complete the program s practical exercises. Vehicle Extrication Awareness and Operations (OEMS) This class is part of a program offered through a partnership between the Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS), the Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP), and the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (VAVRS). Participants who complete this course will receive a certificate of completion that will be recognized by VDFP, OEMS, and VAVRS. The Vehicle Rescue Course approaches extrication as a 12 step systematic process. This course will take participants through all 12 phases, beginning with an awareness to the equipment necessary to complete safe extrication all the way through hands on practical s to help develop the skills necessary for vehicle rescue. Student Prerequisites: Must be 18 years of age and have PPE.
6 ATV & UTV Awareness and Operations (VAVRS) Trailer EVOC (VAVRS) This course developed by the VAVRS is designed for the Special Events Vehicle and All Terrain Vehicle for EMS and Fire use. This is an 8 hour course Best Practices course that includes both classroom and practical exercises. Topics include: safety, Virginia laws, preparing to ride, basic & advanced skills, and hands-on practical evolutions. Basic Course Prerequisites: EVOC, safety equipment (helmet, gloves, safety glasses and boots) students MUST provide their own vehicle for the practical evolutions. The attendees for this program will also take the VAVRS Trailer EVOC Class to be held on day two of the program. NFA Strategy and Tactics for Initial Company Operations STICO is designed to meet the needs of Company Officers responsible for managing the operations of one or more companies during structural firefighting operations. STICO is designed to develop the management skills needed by company officers to accomplish assigned tactics at structure fires. Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Train-the-Trainer The HMA/HMO Train-the-Trainer is a 16 hour program for potential instructors to deliver the HMA and/or HMO programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Individuals applying for instructor status must take a pre-test prior to the start of the class. The test will be administered at any of the Division Offices. If test failure occurs, individuals will not be allowed a re-test and must wait one (1) year before completing another HMA/HMO TTT pre-test. The Train-the- Trainer will consist of a discussion on how the program was designed and how to manage and deal with small group activities and the practical components of the program. Course Prerequisites: Instructor I or above, Certified by VDFP/VDEM at the HMFR Operations Level or above, pass the pre-test with a score of 80% or better and approval of the Division Chief.
