4 JUSTIFICATION FORM USC Columbia, Lancaster, Salkehatchie, Sumter & Union campuses JUS INSTRUCTIONS: Please attach a statement explaining the justification for the proposed program or course action. This form is available online at Date: Sept. 24, 2014 Campus: USC-Columbia College/School: Arnold School of Public Health Department (if applicable): Exercise Science Degree Program (if applicable): MS Undergraduate Graduate We require all MS students to take BIOS 700, Introduction to Biostatistics, to satisfy the statistical methods course requirement for the MS degree. In order to comply with new accrediting requirements for the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), we are making the following curriculum change. We will now require all students to take EPID 700, Introduction to Epidemiology or EPID 701, Concepts and Methods of Epidemiology, in order to satisfy their 3 credit hours of School of Public Health Core. Previously, students were not required to take EPID 700/701. We will also now require all students to take PUBH 700, Perspectives in Public Health in order to satisfy their 3 credit hours of School of Public Health Core. Previously, all Exercise Science MS students were required to take EXSC 700. Now, students in the health aspects of physical activity and the rehabilitation sciences concentrations will be required to take it, but the course will be an EXSC elective for the applied physiology concentration. The rehabilitation sciences concentration shares some course work with the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Two changes for this concentration are proposed to accommodate changes in the DPT courses. 1. Instead of always requiring PHYT 782 Functional Anatomy, students will have the option of either PHYT 782 Functional Anatomy or EXSC 535 Mechanical Analysis of Motor Skills. 2.
