Anyone who designs and builds School Systems bears a heavy responsibility towards the people who work and learn in them. We have been manufacturing our systems at our plant in the town of Wangen im Allgäu for more than 60 years. Our experience is our strength. In developing our SCALA modular system, we adapted our design expertise to the requirements of the market, which included not only current requirements but also the latest information about ergonomics, ecology and health & safety. 11 SCALA modular system 11 Energy balance sheet How much energy is a school allowed to use? As much as necessary, as little as possible. Ever since the development of our new modular system, we have defined the question of the energy balance sheet differently than before. It is our goal to improve the school's energy balance from an economical and ecological perspective. We have achieved this. Our new modular system consumes significantly less energy. We have optimised the gas flow profiles in the intake and exhaust air flows of our fume cupboards in such a way as to cut their energy consumption whilst maintaining the same performance and operational safety. A subject classroom implemented using the SCALA subject classroom can be converted from a physics to an information technology classroom or a language lab, for example, within only a few minutes. The chipcard system allows access throughout long school days. A transponder system that is secure against forgery allows the media switch-on options in the laboratory to be restricted. Administration of the card is handled in the school. The card is not programmed with personal information (data protection). For use throughout long school days, this means the PC modules, for example, can be operated by switching on the electricity, whereas all other media (gas, water, exhaust air) remain switched off. As a core subjects, there are four periods. This subject is taught in years 8, 9 and 10, although the school itself goes through to year 12 (this is referred to as a "G8" school). As a result, the subject cannot be taken as an examination module through to A levels. The other natural science subjects of biology, chemistry and physics (as basic sciences) are taught with the same number of periods and the same content in all streams. The objective of this subject is to give schoolchildren practical preparation for later study and for the world of work, as well as promoting scientific and technical thinking and actions.
