1 CIVIC TREES -GLENDALE COUNTRYSIDE GENERAL MANAGER Background Glendale Managed Services, the green services division of Parkwood Holdings Plc, has revenues of 45 million. Glendale operates throughout the UK and is a green business with green thinking at the core of everything we do. Glendale activities include; grounds management, arboriculture, countryside management, landscaping, horticulture and golf course management. Grounds maintenance is approx 60% of the Glendale business with 20% being arboriculture. Glendale currently operates 62 contracts, mainly in England, and employs approximately 1500 staff. Glendale has always been forward-looking and has re-launched itself as a company that is a deeper green. Civic Trees Civic Trees operates on a National basis from a dual depot/office facility in Watford. ly, Civic Trees fall under the London & South East Region of Glendale. Founded in 1963, Civic Trees pioneered the UK market in the supply & planting of large mature trees. Civic Trees also made commercial tree moving a viable business, investing heavily in bespoke machinery to allow for the largest trees to be relocated at a competitive cost. In 2006, Glendale purchased the specialist Semi mature Tree Supply, plant & relocation company Civic Trees. Civic Trees has an annual value in excess of 1 million, delivering various projects ranging in value from 5,000 to 100,000, nationally.

3 Job Description The Contracts Manager will be based at Watford and will be responsible for: Input into and implement the strategy for the business of Glendale Contribute fully to the effective running of the Glendale Civic Trees Contract Participate in securing the long-term future of the business Provide the leadership required to meet objectives Be technically able and play a proactive role in securing new business for Glendale, Civic Trees Maintain good relations with existing clients, by managing and meeting the needs of localised systems Direct the business activity of Civic Trees Build and maintain a sound organisational structure, recruiting, training and motivating staff within the business. Monitor the performance of the operation through the proper Company accounting and reporting procedures Safeguard the company s image and credibility Proactively target additional business: tendering and pricing as suitable in accordance with the Divisional Pricing Policy Take responsibility for health and safety and actively participate in the maintenance and improvement of the overall Company Health and Safety culture Ensure the maintenance of Quality Standards in particular the application of the Company Quality System. Ensure the Quality System is maintained to BS EN 9001 standard at the contract. Ensure the maintenance of Environmental Standards and compliance with the BS EN ISO 14001:1996 standard at the contract. The Contract Manager will focus day to day on the following tasks: Carry out all financial accounting requirements including: - Ensure the contract delivers to plan, budget and profit - Prepare and analyse financial forecasts for the contract - Control operations within the approved annual budget - Chase debtor payments - Review forward orders and order completions - Review stock and work-in-progress Oversee the smooth running of the business

4 Take responsibility for the implementation of work planning systems of the business Set up an effective organisational structure for the business, regularly reviewing the structure and workforce requirements. Determine staffing levels and establish an effective management team Recruit employees as necessary Ensure that all employees are effectively managed and employee records are kept up-to-date Maintain good employee relations relationship Evaluate vehicle and machinery requirements and submit an annual Capital Expenditure proposal Establish and maintain lists of suitable suppliers and sub-contractors Effectively implement and monitor the companies Health & Safety policy and associated procedures Keep abreast of current arboriculture and horticulture techniques and help establish training programmes for employees Ensure the liaison with the Clients/Customers to: - - agree programmes of work - discuss technical matters - inspect and certify completed work - agree additional works - resolve problems To be responsible for the sales, marketing and promotion of the business Any other duties that may arise relevant to the role. The role of the General Manager can never be defined fully, but in all matters he/she must demonstrate leadership and command respect within the business. All decisions must be communicated clearly both to those responsible to the post holder and to those persons the post holder reports to. The General Manager should also be prepared to take the initiative and continually improve operational activity. The person requires ambition and a high level of commitment. The General Manager is critical to decision making processes within the business and must gain the trust and loyalty of all stakeholders in the company.

6 The Candidate Skills and competencies This is a role requiring a firm understanding of profitable sales generation, project management, work outputs & logistical planning. Qualifications Candidates should ideally be educated to degree level (essential) or level 6 in Horticulture, arboriculture or Construction Plant operations or similar (desirable). Prince 2 Project Management (desirable) Personal Qualities Financial and medium term planning skills as well as operational management awareness A clear identification with the requirements of Glendale customers/ clients The ability to identify opportunities for the Company Good written communication skills Confidentiality and discretion Good interpersonal and organisational skills Professional attitude and appearance The ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently High level of credibility High energy levels and enthusiasm An open friendly personality with a good sense of humour Excellent telephone manner and spoken English Ability to remain unruffled under pressure A flexible attitude to work as the job will require international travel and overnight stays A charismatic leader Other - Full Drivers Licence essential - Must live up to 45 minutes from the main office in Watford
