Flera talare klara till årets MR-dagar! Cecilia Malmström, Birgitta Ohlsson och Gudrun Schyman alla har de tackat ja till att framträda på årets MR-dagar den november på Svenska Mässan i Göteborg. En av huvudtalarna i år är den uppmärksammade brittiske forskaren Richard Wilkinson som tillsammans med sin kollega Kate Pickett i boken Jämlikhetsanden (Karneval, 2010) visar hur jämlika samhällen nästan alltid klarar sig bättre än mer ojämlika samhällen. Deras forskning anknyter till årets tema, Vem har rätt till rättigheter?, vad som händer när samhällen glider för långt isär och vad vi kan göra för att förhindra detta. En annan talare som vi är stolta över att presentera är Ruth Manorama, Indiens mest kända Dalitaktivist som i åratal har kämpat för Daliternas, de så kallade kastlösas eller oberörbaras rättigheter, i Indien. Hon tilldelades Right Livelihoodpriset 2006 för sitt livslånga engagemang att uppnå jämlikhet för dalitkvinnor, att skapa effektiva kvinnoorganisationer och arbeta för kvinnors rättigheter på nationell och internationell nivå. Hon är i hög grad en internationell aktivist som betytt mycket för att Indiens mest förtryckta grupp nu har börjat komma till tals. Monday, November 12, 2012; G3 In India social, cultural, political human rights of 200 million Dalits are violated by state officials and in civil society. They are the Untouchables within the caste system and the violations rest on cultural and religious notions. Although outlawed in the Indian constitution it continues due to state failure to fulfill the implementation of laws and widespread impunity for perpetrators. The Dalit movement struggles on all levels of society for Dalits to be recognized as equal citizens. Existing laws are not implemented and perpetrators are often not brought before the court. We wish to demonstrate how the Dalit movement in India and the international solidarity movement cooperate for Dalits to have their citizen s rights acknowledged. Thursday, November 15, 2012; 3 hours Venue: Uppsala University Organizers: The Forum for South Asian Studies together with the Dept. of Linguistics and Philology (Indology) and the Dalit Platform in Germany is planning this seminar under the name of Dalit Cultural Identity Politics (preliminary title).
