1 May 21, 2012 Quantum Entanglement at Work Ten Allen County students were among 126 highschoolers to attend the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) leadership camp for three days in April. While there, they bonded, learned how to do the Starbucks handshake (which they taught us), held a tarantula and learned about leadership, service and self-discipline from multiple speakers. The students are Amy Arthur, Ana Martinez, Mark Hellinger, Mariah Kiefer, Max Marin, Catherine Bleddoe, Ana Cris, Wilisha Graham, Ben Gibson, Emma Walker and Laura Macias.

4 High Five A tip of the hat to Mike Peters (Amy Kelly s son) who has been a Study Connection tutor with the club team because it seemed like a good thing to do, he said. We re proud! Cleo Fox Scholarship Winners Seven students received Cleo Fox scholarships from the downtown Fort Wayne Rotary Club at auditions that took place on April 17 at the music studio at WBOI Radio. A total of $3,500, raised by downtown Rotarians at their annual fall golf outing, was awarded. The students will attend a summer program to further their musical education. They are: Brianna Bowman, piano, Heritage High School, $500, IPFW Music Morgan Marshaus, flute and piccolo, Woodlan Junior-Senior High School, $500, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Summer Clinic Mikah Sunderman, alto saxophone, Snider High School, $500, Indiana Ambassadors Austin Lewellen, double bass, South Side High School, $500, Brevard Music Center Danielle Whitney, trombone, Blackhawk Christian, $500, Blue Lake Caleb Stuckey, violin, Homeschool, $500, Ball State Josh Shepler, trumpet, Bishop Dwenger, $500, Blue Lake Judges were Marcella Trentacosti of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Youth Symphony, Masson Robertson, John Leal and Kelly Updike. For the past 30 years, the Cleo Fox scholarship committee has awarded student scholarships to honor the musical passion of Cleo Fox, who joined the Fort Wayne Rotary Club in For many years, one scholarship was provided to Interlochen (Michigan) International Music Camp, of which Fox was a founder. A Michigan native, trombonist and assistant director of the

5 Philharmonic, Fox served as Rotary Club pianist and secretary. He died at age 80 in May The club then endowed the scholarship fund to honor Fox s service and musical stewardship. Cleo Fox Thank-You Letter Thank you and the Rotary Club for your generosity over the past three years. Morgan and I are very grateful for all that you have done for her, and she is happy to accept this year's scholarship to attend the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic. This program has been an excellent source of education, inspiration and networking for her. It has also afforded the opportunity to both perform with, become friends with and compare her skills to high level musicians her own age from all over the country. None of this would have been possible for her without your help. Thank you all! Warmest regards, Kevin Marshaus Gee, Kids Today! The EarlyAct Club at Washington School, whose officers attended this week s meeting along with Study Connection participants, proudly announced they collected six boxes of school supplies to send to Togo. And congratulations to Washington for high reading scores (90 percent passing rate) by third-graders!
