5 Appendix A Re: Academic qualification of the Ed.D under AACSB guidelines The Ed.D. is awarded by Northern Illinois University, College of Business (not the School of Education) and has received accreditation from AACSB for its undergraduate, graduate, and accountancy programs. Second, the doctoral degree is "research-based". Other factors, detailed in the AACSB Accreditation Council Policies, Procedures and Standards, that would be considered in assessing the appropriateness of my qualifications include: "Field represented by the dissertation topic" My dissertation topic is international accounting. "Professional certifications" I am certified as both a CPA and an IRS Enrolled Agent. "Scholarly productivity which evidences research capacity" I believe that my record of publications plus the award from the National Assoc. of Accountants for my "Contribution to Accounting Literature" would provide sufficient evidence of my research capacity. "Subject fields of graduate course work" My course work includes over 60 semester hours of graduate course work from the College of Business. "Considered effective teacher in the appropriate field" I believe that both my student (usually in the 4+ range out of a possible 5) and peer evaluations would provide sufficient evidence of meeting this criterion. In addition, I have several years of relevant practical experience, as evidenced by resume, including positions with General Motors, KPMG, University of Michigan, USAID, Tower Federal Savings and Loan, and the Fulbright Association. I have also served as an expert witness in the area of accounting. 5
