#TECHNOLOGYSERVICECORPS Class 34 Brooklyn Graduates 6

Mohamed Alborati, 19, Brooklyn Internship Site: New York University Governance Lab Before enrolling in NPower s Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was looking for a place to start my career in technology. I did not specifically know where I wanted to focus and NPower helped me find a direction. I developed an interest in project management and NPower helped me pursue it. I learned more about networking and handling computers on both a physical and software layer. Now that I am graduating from the TSC program, I m better prepared to handle the corporate world. Jeannette Almonte, 25, Brooklyn Internship Site: Ernst & Young My name is Jeannette Almonte and I am a graduate of the NPower s Technology Service Corp Class 34 where I honed my expertise in software development and hardware knowledge and skills. To supplement my academic experience, I worked in real estate for 5 years to expand my communication, client management and project management skills. During my time in NPower, I became more tech savvy and learned the skills necessary to enter the professional world with confidence in my abilities by expanding my knowledge in two key areas: project management, and information technology. Now that this amazing ride has come full circle, I look forward to sharing my experience with future students who share the same mindset as I did when I began my journey. Dheyazen Alseelwe, 22, Brooklyn Internship Site: DoITT During the program I was able to learn a lot about hardware, software, networking, and project management. Learning more about project management made me want to become a project manager and I never would have known about the field until I entered the program. TSC has provided me with resources I would have never imagined I would have the ability to possess. Not only does one learn academic work, but they also learn the soft skills needed to become a professional. TSC has changed my life. This program has made me a smarter, well-rounded individual and most importantly, a better person. I would like to thank all of TSC s staff for always being there, willing to help and always provide advice. I would honestly like to congratulate the staff of TSC for being great professionals and even better people. 7

#TECHNOLOGYSERVICECORPS Angel Batista, 24, Brooklyn Internship Site: Citi I was told about TSC at the conclusion of a job interview where the interviewer explained that this program helps young adults earn their A+ certification. Once I arrived home, I researched TSC and decided to enroll in the program. At first, I was bit hesitant about joining the program because I didn t want to feel as if I was back in school. My lack of work experience led me to the realization that if I earned this certificate, I d be more equipped to land a job. I am glad I decided to go through with the process because if I didn t, I wouldn t have met the people I have met or visited organizations I hope to one day work for. Thanks to TSC and my internship experience, I am now A+ certified and gaining necessary work experience at Citi. I would like to thank all the staff of TSC who dealt with me and helped me when I was in need. After TSC, I am hoping to turn my internship into a full time job, and if it doesn t happen that way, I am ok with that because I have begun to build my network of connections in the technology field. Steven Bess, 21, Brooklyn Internship Site: Chelsea Computers Incorporated My name is Steven Bess; I m 21 years old and I reside in Brooklyn. Before joining NPower s Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was studying chemistry and was introduced to politics. Politics then led me to be very concerned about privacy. This in turn fueled my interest to study cyber security. I learned many things in my self-studies, like how to work effectively with Linux, Windows and other types of special OS s and software. Despite all that I have learned on my own, I knew there was so much more to absorb and TSC was more than a perfect avenue for me to learn. TSC taught me all the basics of computers and everything else in between. I chose TSC because this was a way for me to get experience in my field of choice. My plans after TSC are to pursue more certifications and acquire more experience so I may develop as a professional in cyber security. Jonathan Juan Cepeda, 25, Queens Internship Site: St. John s Bread & Life Before enrolling in NPower s Technology Service Corps (TSC) program, I was working at a job where there was no potential for growth. I have a degree in Automotive Technology from the Technical Career Institute College of Technology. While working in that industry, a customer told me about NPower. Since I joined the program, I ve never been happier. The instructors made the lessons interesting. Every day was an awesome lesson in hardware, software, or networking. The lessons from corporate partners during off site visits encouraged me to think differently. I have grown so much thanks to TSC s program. I now have strong skills in configuring computers, laptops, hardware, and mobile phones. 8

Raphael Charles, 22, Brooklyn Internship Site: United Way NPower s Technology Service Corps (TSC) was an opportunity that I had to take. I always had an interest in computer technology. During my time in TSC, I learned many things including what tools and techniques are needed to repair a computer. I also learned useful skills for project management. Every Wednesday, we had a guest lecturer who enlightened us about different subjects such as networking, security, and project management. TSC gave me the knowledge needed to achieve my A+ certification. TSC also provided me with the opportunity to intern at United Way, which is providing me with the experience I need to shine. I look forward to excelling in my new career. Thayne Clarke, 25, Brooklyn Internship Site: Marathon Consulting Before enrolling in the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was a young man attempting to figure out where my next path lied. I completed my first degree and was prone to landing seasonal positions. As you can imagine, I felt a bit stuck. I was always fascinated by technology when I was younger. I was drawn to the lights, the sounds and how various systems worked together to make one harmonious machine. After being informed about TSC s program by a family member, I decided to make a substantial change in my life and TSC felt like the necessary first step. NPower helped me garner brand new skills, expand my knowledge in various topics in information technology as well as professional development. NPower also enabled me to build a lifelong network and attain my A+ certification. My knowledge grew ten-fold thanks to professionals from prestigious companies exposing us to their various paths in technology. The greatest thing I learned from NPower was, no matter how much technical skill I was able to gain, humility, patience and a willingness to learn and adapt are of the utmost importance in any career path I decide to take. I am currently working towards my Network+ certification. I would like to thank NPower and its staff for providing me with a new beginning, enhancing my skills and allowing me to build a lifelong network of friends and fellow professionals. Curtis Edwards, 24, Brooklyn Internship Site: Lincoln Center Before enrolling in the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was unemployed and unenthusiastic. Fortunately, a former school adviser saw that I was in an economic bind and introduced me to this program. After applying, then being accepted into NPower, I was given the necessary resources and guidance to point me in the right direction of career goal development. I am currently A+ certified, working towards obtaining my Network+ certification and researching many more, since my goal is to become a network administrator. I plan to utilize the skills, knowledge and experience learned from this program to achieve success in my career. 9

#TECHNOLOGYSERVICECORPS Koran Edwards, 23, Brooklyn Internship Site: Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Before the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I collaborated with a friend of mine and coordinated a non-profit performing arts organization called The Dean s List Tour. I started looking for a successful route to take in technology so I could make myself more marketable and have hands-on experience. That s when I found TSC, the program that allowed me to get the certifications and hands-on training I desired. Through TSC, I was able to pinpoint the areas I liked in technology such as networking and project management. I was able to get my CompTIA A+ certification and get a clear understanding of what I wanted to do in the future, while still coordinating shows for my non-profit. After TSC, I want to be able to combine the arts within the non-profit I work for with technology. This will provide children of all ages with an opportunity to enhance their capabilities with technology whether they want to pursue a career in technology or not. It gives them a better understanding of what they want to do in life. Shanice Falconer, 21, Brooklyn Internship Site: UBS I decided to enroll in TSC for the opportunity to learn more about computer hardware. This program has allowed me to develop great IT skills. After TSC, I intend on completing my degree as well as finding ways to incorporate the skills I have acquired from this program with my excitement for coding. Dior Funn, 19, Brooklyn Internship Site: Cypress Hills Local Development Corp. I had intermediate experience with computers and knew most about the components inside the computer. During my time at TSC, I learned about software, hardware, using the command prompt, and imaging computers. I learned how to network better which allowed me to get in contact with well-known CEO s with organizations such as Best Buy, Diggen, Staybay, Red Lobster, Pinkwater Select, Steiner Sports, and I also networked with Vice Presidents as well as COO s and CFO s. After NPower, I plan to jump start my start-up company, called Tenva Inc., network to get more investors, hire the best, most hardworking and creative individuals and create the best products. 10

Thomas Garayua, 25, Manhattan Internship Site: Citi Before joining NPower s Technology Service Corps, I was limited to working in the retail and food industries. With NPower, I learned that it s possible to have a career in a field that you truly love. Learning the ins and outs of computers in a friendly yet professional environment inspired me to pursue my passion for technology. I am currently studying for my Network+ and Security+ certifications to enhance my career. Curtis Goodluck, 22, Brooklyn Internship Site: Citi Before enrolling in the Technology Service Corps (TSC), music was my main preoccupation. I spent most of my time honing my craft as a musician and guitar instructor. I ve been granted many opportunities through music, but I felt I should also pursue my interest in technology. The TSC program has equipped me with a bevy of knowledge concerning information technology. I came into the program with a desire to understand how and why computers function the way they do. TSC has made it possible for me to earn my A+ certification. After this program, I plan to pursue a career in technology and continue my post-secondary education. Christopher Hamilton, 21, Bronx Internship Site: New York Hall of Science Hello, my name is Christopher Hamilton. I m 21 years old and I live in the Bronx. Before I came to the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was always interested in technology, so much so that I went to school for technology. During TSC, I met people who instilled valuable advice and tips about the professional world that I would have had to figure out on my own. After I completed the training session, I was ready to work and pursue my ambition to be a Network Engineer. I m very grateful for the compassion they had for me and information they provided. 11

#TECHNOLOGYSERVICECORPS Hadiyah Harrison, 25, Brooklyn Internship Site: United Way Before enrolling in the Technology Service Corps (TSC) I was working as a make-up artist for Lancôme. I decided the next best step for my career in the cosmetic industry was to relocate from Philadelphia to New York City. I chose to enroll in TSC after having a chance meeting with a former vice president of L Oreal. He assured me that there is definitely a hidden market for combining technology with beauty and encouraged me to take my passion for cosmetics to the next level. TSC has benefited me because I am now able to apply technology to an industry that has not yet been diversified. TSC has granted me an advantage in the make-up industry; not only am I able to physically apply make-up, but I also understand how project management can be applied to increase sales, measurable productivity, and mass advertisement of various cosmetic products. After TSC I plan to finish college and major in technology/business. My dream is to lead a project management team for a major cosmetic company with a specific interest in implementing new and innovative technology to their brand. My ideal career placement is not exclusively limited to cosmetics. I enjoy building and exploring new ideas, so any company that wishes to expand its brand by using technology is suitable for me. Vanessa Henry, 24, Brooklyn Internship Site: Deloitte I learned from a friend who attended and completed the Technology Service Corps program that it was a great way to gain experience and make the connections needed to help get my career started. While attending TSC, I became A+ certified through classroom teaching, hands on experience, and peer study groups. I was able to participate in workshops such as business writing, project management and customer service which will prepare me for my career in Information Technology. After completing the course and internship at TSC, I intend to continue my pursuit for employment in the field of IT service support. I will also continue to obtain certifications in networking while completing my Bachelor s degree. Jackelin Hernandez, 19, Brooklyn Internship Site: DoITT Before joining the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was struggling to find something that would keep me interested. I was unable to continue my education after high school due to personal problems. When I heard about this program, through an alumnus, the very first thing I thought was, This can be it. During TSC, my knowledge of technology expanded and opened my eyes to evolution in a world that is technology based. I learned about hardware, software, networking, security, printers, as well as some project management leadership. I also have had the pleasure of being an intern at DoITT. After TSC, I would love to be able to apply the knowledge that I acquired to an IT related job. 12

Mohammad Hijazi, 19, Manhattan Internship Site: CASES Prior to joining NPower s Technology Service Corps (TSC) program, my skills were software based and limited to programming. In January 2015, I joined the NPower community where I learned a lot about the computer hardware structure and more about networking and security. During the TSC program, I gained my A+ certification which enhanced my network troubleshooting skills. After graduating, I will be focusing more on my security skills in order for me to become a successful Network Engineer. Andrew Holland, 25, Brooklyn Internship Site: Citi Before entering the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was a retail professional looking for a way to enter the technology industry. I have always loved computers and spent most of my days fixing them at work as well as at home. I was referred to the TSC program by a former coworker who noticed my interests in computers. While enrolled in the program, I learned how to enhance my professional and technical skills. During my time in TSC, I was even able to achieve my A+ certification. Throughout all of the workshops provided, I also learned how to develop and maintain my own professional network. After being exposed to so many different fields within technology, I have decided that I want to obtain three more certifications, in addition to obtaining my bachelors in technology for computer systems. NPower s Technology Service Corps program has provided me with the tools and resources in order to succeed right now and in the future. Shakir Hossain, 25, Brooklyn Internship Site: Citi I ve been working in a restaurant, named David Bouley, since This restaurant has provided me with decent financial compensation and a pretty flexible schedule. My interest however, is and has always been in technology. Every time I went to work, I couldn t help but to think of ways I could change my career to technology. This realization prompted me to look for a training program that focused on computers and luckily, I found NPower s Technology Service Corps (TSC) program. By enrolling into the program, I got exactly what I was looking for. I got my A+ certification and after 15 weeks, I got an internship within Citi. In my internship, I am working on Sharepoint where my teammates and I are working on an integrated portal. Now, I am determined about my career, what I want to do and who I want to be. All of this became possible because of NPower. 13

#TECHNOLOGYSERVICECORPS Hardley Joanis, 25, Brooklyn Internship Site: Cypress Hills Local Development Corp. Hello my name is Hardley Joanis. I was born in 1989 in Brooklyn, New York to two Haitian immigrants. I grew up in Jamaica, Queens and I m the oldest of four. I have one sister and two brothers. I went to a Catholic school for most of my life, until the eighth grade. I graduated from Hunter College where I majored in Sociology and minored in History. After I graduated, I was hired by a sight-seeing company called Hornblower where I felt as if I had no opportunity to grow. I then heard about NPower from a former teammate and decided to apply. The best part about being in NPower was not only I.T. knowledge I gained, but all of the friends I ve made while there. Devon A. Joseph, 20, Brooklyn Internship Site: CA Technologies Before joining the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I felt like I was going nowhere in life; I had no goals and no direction. I already had an understanding of different technologies but it felt like a cluttered mess of information inside of my head. During this program, I was given structure. It was like the clutter had been formatted and everything became clear. I had options of what I wanted to learn and how. The staff was very friendly, they gave me the knowledge and the resources to not only develop my own goals but, to seek them out. After TSC, I want to advance my craft in fields like multimedia and programming. I hope to become a technologist with a very wide area of knowledge in anything IT related. Garry Lazar, 22, Brooklyn Internship Site: St. John s Bread and Life Before joining NPower s Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was unemployed and not sure exactly what career path I wanted to take. My aunt found out about TSC at a job fair and presented me with the opportunity. I always had an interest in technology but didn t know exactly what route to take in order to enhance my knowledge in certain areas. This program has helped me learn the basic fundamentals in networking and hardware. Furthermore, in the next few years, I see myself continuing my education and hopefully beginning a career in either networking or hardware. 14

Kenneth Lima, 19, Queens Internship Site: Citi I started my path in technology in high school, working my way to being an Aviation Maintenance Technician. Joining NPower was something that was completely unexpected. I was introduced to this program by a friend of mine. During the program, I met up with a lot of great people who wanted to learn more about technology and they inspired me to do better and to explore more within the field. Having class at NPower felt like being in a big family and I enjoyed every minute of it. I want to continue my path to become an engineer and aim to achieve my Bachelor s degree in Computer Engineering Technology at City Tech. I want to continue exploring within the technology field as I aim to get my Network+ and Security+ certifications. Kevin Mai, 24, Brooklyn Internship Site: CBS Before enrolling in the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was trying to look for work of any kind so I applied to the Young Adult Internship Program (YAIP) for an available opportunity. The TSC was recommended to me by a member of YAIP s staff who saw that I was interested in technology. My personal goal was to learn the foundational principles of business level IT. Now, I am more knowledgeable about the part I can play in this field after graduating from NPower. After the TSC, my plan is to obtain a Network+ certification to accompany my career path in IT. Antoinette Malcolm, 25, Queens Internship Site: DoITT Before joining NPower s Technology Service Corps, I was having a hard time in college and coming to terms with the fact that I was 25 and had no idea what I want to do regarding my career path. When I found out about the program, I was ecstatic because I knew that I had a liking for technology so I was anxious to see what the program had to offer when it comes to increasing my knowledge of technology. As it turns out, not only would I be graduating with greater knowledge of technology and a chance to execute said knowledge in the internships provided, but with great friends and more confidence in my abilities. NPower gave me a taste of what to expect in the wide variety of the IT spectrum and also helped me narrow down possible career paths that I didn t consider before. I m forever grateful for the teachers and coordinators who gave me and my peers this rare opportunity. I look forward to utilizing my new found skills and knowledge I ve gained from this point on. 15

#TECHNOLOGYSERVICECORPS Christopher Mitchell, 22, Manhattan Internship Site: Harlem Children s Zone Before NPower s Technology Service Corps program (TSC), I attended the Young Adult Internship Program, affectionately known as YAIP. During this time, I was also filling out job applications, hoping to find steady employment. I would also play video games and watch tv and go outside to play sports. During the TSC I learned a lot more about technology and how to fix broken computers. I got my A+ certification and I got hired to intern at a site called Harlem Children s Zone. After the TSC, I am looking forward to continuing my education by going to college. Ashford Morgan, 25, Brooklyn Internship Site: Citi Before joining NPower s Technology Service Corps (TSC), I was employed in a position that had potential to lead me to a decent career. It wasn t, however, a place that I saw myself excelling in the far future. While employed there, I was underpaid, overworked and definitely not appreciated. I needed something more stable where I had the ability to grow professionally and financially, which led me to NPower. During the program, I learned the basics of information technology, more specifically, the Comptia A+ curriculum. The many guest lectures and site visits we attended were great experiences. Visiting large financial institutions, such as Bank of America, and technology consulting firms, such as Ernst & Young, opened my mind and my career aspirations to achieve a greater professional life. After training with my instructor Kashif, I took the A+ examination and I am now A+ certified. The next step towards the end of the program required me to attend a technology related internship coordinated by NPower. My first interview for an internship was with Citi, which was also my last since I was accepted a few weeks later. I am currently interning in Citi s Executive Support office in the center in Manhattan where I have the opportunity to learn from a multitude of different people from most aspects of the information technology field. I hope to gain even more experience that will help me decide which area of information technology I want to branch off into. Overall, NPower has been a great stepping stone that has given me a chance to have a professional career as well as connect with people I would not normally have had the chance to meet. Tristan Myers, 25, Brooklyn Internship Site: NPower Digital Marketing During the last couple of years, I have made several big decisions that have ultimately led to me joining NPower s Technology Service Corps program. I felt as if this was the next place to further hone my skill set. While attending NPower, I was able to solidify my background in IT, expand my business network, and finally acquire my CompTIA A+ certification. My hard work eventually paid off when I was luckily placed on NPower s marketing team as my internship placement. I guess my skills would be way more valuable here than anywhere else. 16

Brandon Nicolas, 22, Long Island Internship Site: Synergos I am very thankful for NPower s Technology Service Corps program (TSC). Before the TSC, I was an idle student working a regular retail job. I wanted to broaden my horizons as well as gain a better understanding of technology, so I joined the program. Sure enough, I learned the logistics of hardware and software and discovered the various avenues a technician can take in order to have a successful career. It is beneficial to have interchangeable options that can also be expanded upon. The TSC offered professional guidance and also assisted in my personal growth. The internal guidance counselor, great site visits, and workshops led by companies such as AMA, United Way, Accenture, and Deloitte are to thank for my development. Another important feature TSC offered was access to the NPower network. This gave me a better opportunity of meeting well established technicians and possibly landing a job within their corresponding firms. After the TSC, I plan on continuing my studies in networking and programming (app development) to increase my marketability. This is a great program and I recommend that anyone who is technologically savvy should join NPower and go for their dreams! Keyon Palmer, 22, Brooklyn Internship Site: Center for Family Life To be honest, I did not know where my career was headed. After graduating high school, I pursued a Nursing degree in New York City College of Technology, only to change my major to Human Services, only to change it again to undecided. I was then encouraged by friends and loved ones to do what I love, which led me to NPower. Being in NPower s Technology Service Corps program taught me the basics of building, repairing and configuring computers. Not only was I given the opportunity to receive advice from employees of huge companies like CBS and Bank of America, but I was also given the opportunity to intern with one of those companies. After completing NPower, I look forward to pursuing my degree in computer science and receiving multiple certifications in the tech field. Five years down the line, I see myself working within a company like CBS or Bank of America and I hope to own my own business, assisting others with their personal computers. Ramin Peña 24, Queens Internship Site: CBS Prior to NPower, I was tutoring middle school children in Vermont while publishing two books of poetry. Afterwards, I came back to NYC and I did not know where my future would take me until I met an NPower alumnus, Chad Lopez who encouraged me to consider applying to the Technology Service Corps program. I enrolled in NPower for the great opportunities affording to those with drive and motivation. I have learned so much about technology and how it facilitates many aspects of life such as business and communication. My ideal plan for after NPower is to enroll in the Cyber Security class, which will allow me to obtain my Network+ and Security+ certifications, if it is offered this summer. My goal is to get involved with Project Management and have my internship extended or be offered a job. 17

#TECHNOLOGYSERVICECORPS Philippe Alexandre Pierre, 25, Queens Internship Site: CBS Prior to joining NPower s Technology Service Corps, I worked on political campaigns in public transportation, small businesses, and education. My interest grew when I had a better understanding of how technology could help solve all these issues. NPower taught me how I can better utilize these skills to maximize resources on similar projects. Moving forward, I hope to earn my Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate and expand on my IT skills. Robert Quant, 21, Queens Internship Site: Sky Light Center Before enrolling in NPower s Technology Service Corp (TSC), I was working at McDonalds. I only had basic experience with computers and knew little to none about the components inside of the computer. During my time in the TSC, I learned about hardware, software, command prompt, imaging computers, setting up networks, how to interact with different kinds of customers, and troubleshooting printers and computers. I learned how to network better and I also took away many soft skills that will help me in different circumstances. After NPower, I will use the skills I have gained to help me with my future in the technology field. Albert Rodriguez, 22, Far Rockaway Internship Site: RoboFun When I had first heard about the Technology Service Corps program I had been out of work for about 2 weeks. I didn t know what to expect within the program so I took a chance and applied. When I first started NPower, I thought I wasn t going to understand anything. I assumed that the course would be too intense and I would fall behind but something else happened instead. My time in the program was something I will never forget. I met these amazing people in my class, with so much in common with me. I met life-long friends and staff who cared more than I ever thought anyone would. They prepared me and sent me off to my current internship, where I love the work I do and I can t thank NPower enough. Now I have the knowledge and confidence I need to be able to apply myself in a full-time teacher position within my program! 18

Daquan Rogers, 19, Brooklyn Internship Site: United Way Before joining NPower s Technology Service Corps program, I was a server fulltime just so I could afford to attend college part-time. I was also working as an apprentice to my uncle through his IT consulting firm. Fortunately this allowed me to develop excellent time management, as well as an intimate idea concerning what career I wanted to strive for at a young age. Ever since I started NPower, nothing but greatness has come out of it. NPower truly allowed me hone in on my IT skills and flourish professionally. I have also had the opportunity to obtain an A+ certification. I ve been privileged to display my skills through an amazing internship at United Way, where I m learning so much more. After NPower, I hope to become a network administrator. I couldn t have gotten to this point without all the doors NPower has opened for me. Brandon Rosado, 20, Staten Island Internship Site: Center for Family Life Before enrolling in the Technology Service Corps, I knew how to assemble the parts of a computer and install the software I used on a daily basis. I also understood the functions of each individual component in a PC and the corresponding problems that may arise. I had little knowledge regarding how to resolve network connectivity problems. Through the program, I obtained my A+ certification which increased my knowledge of computer troubleshooting, hardware, and software even further. I learned about specific trouble shooting methods that help resolve problems relating to troubles with hard drives, corrupted OS, hardware failures and much more. I also developed an intense interest in the hardware side of computers, network infrastructures, software and hardware. The program has intrigued my interest in the intricacies of computers, specifically the hardware side. Through the program, I also developed an interest in the networking sector of IT. I am currently studying for the Network+ certification exam, and plan to follow a testing path of: Security+, Server+, Linux+, and then the CCENT-CCIE track. I hope to keep broadening my knowledge through certifications and eventually obtain a career in the networking sector of IT, be it on the hardware or software side. Sandy Samuel, 20, Brooklyn Internship Site: Nuvosys Solutions Before joining NPower s Technology Service Corps program, I attended New York City College of Technology majoring in Advertising & Graphic Arts. I took a break from school to find myself and did not make much progress with my life. I was home mostly everyday sitting around watching TV until my cousin recommended this program to me. Since I was always interested in computers, I thought I d give it a shot. While attending the program, I learned about basic computer hardware and software. I also got the chance to learn how to build a web page using codeacademy.com as my guide. After I graduate from this program, I am considering going back to school to complete my Bachelor s degree in Advertising & Graphic Arts. 19

#TECHNOLOGYSERVICECORPS Richard Santiago, 24, Staten Island Internship Site: St. John s Bread and Life Before I joined the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I had a vast interest in the technology field but didn t know how to go about beginning my career path. I was told about the TSC by an alumnus by the name of Edward Sanchez. After the extensive training that the TSC gave me, I learned to have a greater professional presence and became more knowledgeable about hardware, software and networking. I love technology because it is constantly expanding in this world. After NPower, I plan to obtain my A+, Security+, and Network+ certifications and continue pursuing a degree in Information Technology. The involvement I ve had in the NPower classroom in addition to the site visits we went on were truly timeless experiences. I m very grateful to be a part of this program and look forward to what is in store next. I know NPower will be right by my side. Swathi Satty, 20, Staten Island Internship Site: Morgan Stanley Before joining NPower s Technology Service Corps program, I always enjoyed problem solving and wanted to be part of an industry that allowed me to constantly challenge myself. NPower gave me a chance to expand upon the hardware side of technology whereas I was learning solely about software within my college classes. Now I am able to integrate both fields, which makes me a stronger candidate within the world of employment. I plan to use my internship to test my knowledge and get a real world understanding of how technology works in conjunction with finance, which is a sector I ve always been curious about. This opportunity is certainly a great stepping-stone and I hope to use it to better solidify my career. Quintisha Quinn Smith, 20, Brooklyn Internship Site: The New York Times Before enrolling in NPower s Technology Service Corps program (TSC), I had just started a new job at Seven Eleven. I was out of school and worked for a year. I wanted to continue my education but I could not afford out-of-state private college tuition. I felt like I was at a standstill and I knew I needed money to survive. During my time within the TSC, I believe I made a total of 32 new best friends. I had forgotten what socializing felt like, how much studying hurts, what it felt like to be around people who share the same interests as me and ultimately the same life goal of success in the Information Technology field. I was fortunate enough to land an internship with The New York Times in the IT department. I have not been this excited since I graduated from high school and got accepted into the college of my choice. I am so grateful for all the opportunities that were handed to me during the course of this program. I am even MORE grateful that I found the will to actually finish this program. NPower gave me the life boost that I needed, and the courage to excel in a corporate environment. I no longer feel intimidated by my lack of knowledge. I feel empowered to learn and strive for more knowledge in any work place. NPower has changed me in many positive ways. I guess this is what success feels like. 20

Anthony Tilelli, 25, Staten Island Internship Site: TD Ameritrade Before joining the Technology Service Corps (TSC), I desired guidance in charting my career path and expanding my professional network. During my tenure within the TSC, I earned my A+ certification and was exposed to a wide variety of career options. Once I finish the TSC, I hope that I will be better equipped to pursue a career in technology, particularly as a software developer. Filip Valencin, 25, Brooklyn Internship Site: New York City Criminal Justice Agency In our lives, there are always climactic moments that change everything. For me, it was one click in the Google search bar. That click was the key to a whole new world of experience in IT. My brother was always my inspiration; his enthusiasm to learn and solve computer problems was never ending. NPower s Technology Service Corps program (TSC) is a great experience, whether you have or do not have any experience in IT, for those who are interested to learn something new every day. Having a full time job, part time school and later a part time internship, took a lot of sacrifice, but I have never regretted any moment of it. After I acquired my A+ certification, I realized that the past is not always indicative of your future. I am happy to be alumnus of NPower s TSC program and excited to step into the new world of challenges with all the knowledge I obtained from this program. Thank you to all who provided support, education and patience with me. John Wahrmann, 22, Brooklyn Internship Site: St. John s Bread and Life Before joining the Technology Service Corps, I was working at Google Shopping Express. While I was working there, my experience was fun but I knew it wouldn t turn out to be a long term career option for me. Since I ve been accepted into this program, I ve learned a few things I didn t know before. The skills that I have been taught so far will probably be kept with me for future personal uses, as I found them extremely useful in my everyday life. I am completing my internship at St John s Bread and Life. I m curious to see how the skills I ve been taught in class will apply to real world scenarios. 21

#TECHNOLOGYSERVICECORPS Tyree Walker, 20, Queens Internship Site: United Way My experience in NPower s Technology Service Corps program is easily something that I can say has changed my life. It has guided me on the right path to succeed in my IT career. I enrolled in the program because of an alumnus who told me that even if I had no background in IT, I could learn so much through this program. Initially, I found the course work to be tough because I wasn t as tech savvy as the rest of the class. Sometimes that made me doubt myself, but the motivation and friendliness from my classmates, staff, and instructors inspired me to push forward which led to me getting my A+ certification and a greater knowledge of IT than I anticipated. I plan to continue my career and develop my skills in IT because despite everything I ve learned, I know that I have so much more to grasp. That s the beauty of this field. I m very grateful to NPower for this opportunity, it has changed my life and I cannot be more thankful for the support. Andrae White, 23, Brooklyn Internship Site: Citi Before NPower, I was someone who barely knew much about technology. I would always rely on someone else to fix my computer for me. At first, it wasn t much of a problem having someone help me out. Then as time went on, I started to get tired of repeating the same old process. I knew that there would be a time where I would have to rely on myself to fix my own problems. Soon after this realization, one of my friends told me about NPower s Technology Service Corps program and all the resources they had to offer. I was skeptical at first, considering the fact that they were offering so much for free. Then after I joined, my entire outlook on technology changed. During my time in NPower, I was introduced to a world where all my questions could be answered. I jumped head first into learning about computer hardware and software. Within a matter of weeks, I was able to set up my own computer. I was able to troubleshoot problems that I would have been frustrated with before. NPower has allowed me to grow into a whole new person who is ready to embrace the real world of IT. Trevor Wiggins, 25, Queens Internship Site: Renaissance High School After recently completing an AmeriCorps position and wondering what the next stage of my life would be, I came across this program through an intensive Google search. I had a fair interest in technology but I didn t know how I would be able to translate my existing skills into this new environment. When I applied and interviewed with the Brooklyn team, I didn t get the impression that they just needed to meet a quota. I realized that each person that was accepted would be taken care of, within the program and beyond. In the past 22 weeks, not only did I learn from the countless guest lectures and impressive site visits, but I also learned that every team member at the Brooklyn site was truly invested in my individual success, in which I m forever indebted. I m planning to use my skills to further develop myself within the tech sector and eventually open up a community center in Jamaica, Queens, to help younger adults become entrepreneurs within the tech field. Thank you NPower! 22

David Yanez, 21, Queens Internship Site: Columbia Research Foundation Before enrolling in NPower s Technology Service Corps program (TSC), I can t say that I was a disciplined student, nor was I the most responsible. When I learned about NPower from one of my friends, I was surprised to hear that the program helped her in her studies. I enrolled in the TSC program and almost immediately, I felt motivated to learn all I could. Suddenly, my school grades rose, I had a much better understanding of the topics discussed in my classes, and I developed a sense of responsibility. I plan to continue my studies and work part-time as a technician, expanding my skills and exploring new areas of IT while going for certifications. Long term, my goal is to become a Systems/Network Administrator or Network Engineer. Cristian Zapata, 23, Brooklyn Internship Site: Center for Family Life Before enrolling in NPower s Technology Service Corps program (TSC), I was just an ordinary student with an interest in technology. I was always intrigued by how much versatility the use of a device presented such as work, connecting to people, games, and using programs that we rely on for everyday use. As a child, I was always fascinated by computers. I tried my best to educate myself on how to use a computer and what I should be able to do with it. Joining the TSC gave me the opportunity to turn my favorite hobby into the career path I want to follow. I feel like I m in the right place, eager to learn on how technology works and how it changes our lives. Nick Zheng, 21, Brooklyn Internship Site: TD Ameritrade I was introduced to NPower s Technology Service Corps program (TSC) by a friend who graduated from the program. I chose to apply for the TSC because my university classes did not have many hands-on activities, mostly concepts about hardware on a theoretical level, and I thought the TSC would bridge the gap of knowledge between hardware and coding. The TSC definitely taught me technical skills, provided practical experience, and aided in my interview skills, all which I wouldn t otherwise have. After the TSC, I plan to continue my education and enter the technology field using the resources and knowledge the TSC equipped me with. I wish to pursue a career in software but now I understand more about the intricacies behind both the software and hardware side of technology. With the knowledge imparted to me, I am confident I will be able to use the information in anything and everything I do. 23
