Your weekly Silent Announcements will let you know at a glance what is going on! 2 2 of 8 5/28/2015 5:19 PM IMAGINATION Rev. Jay Wolin I remember my imagination being sparked by watching Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" television series when I was younger. Sagan was a champion of space exploration. I will explore why he felt exploration was important and what its religious implications are. What has your imagination led you to do? Summer adult forums at 10 a.m. SUMMER ADULT FORUMS AT 10 A.M. A forum of Adult Enrichment will be offered each Sunday through the summer, starting June 7 through the end of August, at 10 a.m. before the service at 11 a.m. Specific members of the Congregation are offering topics each week that will be informative and enriching as we learn and grow together. Come for good discussion, hot topics and great company. The topics for each week will be listed in the newsletter for the month, as well as in the these weekly silent announcements, ed to you each week. E.O. Wilson discussion - summer adult forum JUNE 7, 10 A.M. - LEAD BY JOYCE WILEY & KATHY BOWMAN We will show a short video of biologist E.O. Wilson, a two-time recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, discussing his most recent book on the meaning of existence. "Philosophy," says Wilson, is "a highly endangered academic species." He argues that explaining the meaning of human existence falls instead to science, which is making significant progress. There will be plenty of Edward Osborne Wilson is an American biologist (Myrmecology, a branch of entomology), researcher (sociobiology, biodiversity), theorist

3 3 of 8 5/28/2015 5:19 PM time to react and reflect on his religious and ethical ideas. (consilience, biophilia), and naturalist(conservationism). Wilson is known for his career as a scientist, his advocacy for environmentalism, and his secular humanist ideas concerned with religious and ethical matters. Sunday service times Sunday, May 31 we will have one service at 10 a.m. Staring June 7 thru Labor Day we will have one service at 11 a.m. with an Adult Enrichment Offering at 10 a.m. We will return to the two service schedule, 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., the weekend after Labor Day. One thing to know this week LAST CHANCE! This is the last week we are taking pledges to Iowa Public Radio and to WVIK through UUCQC. When we make one donation as a Congregation we are able to have on-air spots informing listeners that we are here, how to get information online and a little about our beliefs. This is a 15 year tradition - your donation will help keep it going! If you would like to donate, here's how: Write a check to UUCQC, and in the memo line write either WVIK, IPR, or both WVIK and IPR. If you indicate both, the money is divided evenly. Drop the check in the Communications box in the office supply room.
