1 Application Process: The National College Match Before You Apply Review our Selection Criteria to make sure you are eligible to apply. Research our Partner Colleges. QuestBridge works exclusively with our 35 partner colleges. Because the National College Match is a binding process, you should make sure you are interested in attending our partner colleges before applying. "Binding" means that if you are selected for a scholarship through the College Match, you will be required to attend the college you were matched with. Read our early application policy to learn more about the binding process. There are 4 exceptions to this rule: MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale. If you are matched with any of these 4 colleges, you are not required to attend. Review our Application Components. In addition to our online application, you will be required to submit a transcript, standardized test score reports, two teacher recommendations, and one Secondary School Report (counselor recommendation). More information on what to submit can be found on our Application Components page. You will also want to submit a School Profile, which is recommended but not required, and collect your parents' tax forms to use for reference when completing the application. Additionally, each of our partner colleges has specific requirements that you will need to submit if you become a finalist, such as the CSS PROFILE, official test score reports, and school-specific application supplements. Please review these requirements for each of the partner colleges you are interested in ranking. Please also look ahead to see what test scores are required by each of our partner colleges. The Application 1. Sign up for a QuestBridge Account. To access the 2013 National College Match application, go to the Apply page. Important information about signing up for your QuestBridge account: address: Think carefully about the address you will be using to create your account with us. Make sure it is an address you access frequently, as this is the only address we will use to contact you. Once you begin your account with us, you will continue to receive important notifications from us at the address you use to register with us. Also, this is the address we will share with our partner colleges, so make sure it is something professional. Furthermore, due to security reasons, we are only able to release application-specific information to students who write to us using the address they currently have registered with us. If you write to us using a different address to ask about your application or to receive scholarship notification information, we will ask you to write to us again using the correct address. Password: Once you sign up for an account, the system will prompt you to create a password. Make sure you keep this secure and private.

2 QuestBridge ID: When you sign up for a QuestBridge account you will be assigned a QuestBridge-specific ID located in the upper right corner of each page of your application. Please include this number when contacting us about your application. Once you've signed up for your QuestBridge account, familiarize yourself with the application. Look over the application sections via the links in the left bar so you can plan ahead to make sure you give yourself enough time to complete every section. You can navigate through the application using the links on the left side, even if you haven't completed the prior page. 2. Register Your Recommenders. Your College Match application is not complete without two teacher recommendations. The teacher recommendation section is linked toward the bottom on the left side of your Application Management page, but this does not mean you should do this last. In fact, you should register your recommenders (as well as your counselor for the Secondary School Report; see below) as soon as possible in order to give them enough time to complete the recommendation for you by the application deadline. When you register them, they will receive an with a link to your recommendation form. Important: Before you register your recommenders, make sure you have their most current e- mail addresses. If you enter the wrong address for them, they will not be able to access your online recommendation form. Register your recommenders as soon as you are able to (preferably during the first week of school) so that they have enough time to complete and submit your recommendations by the deadline. After you register them, follow up with your teachers to make sure they received our e- mail. If they haven't, recommend that they check their spam or junk mail folders. 3. Register Your Counselor / School Official for your Secondary School Report You must also submit a Secondary School Report (counselor recommendation) as part of your application. In the Academic section of the application, you will be asked to register a school official (this should be your counselor) whereupon your counselor will receive an with a link to the proper form. Please refer to the information in #2, above, for details on registering your recommenders. 4. Submit Your High School Transcript and Test Score Reports. Please submit a copies of your academic transcript and test scores to QuestBridge via upload on your Application Management page or the Academic section of your application. Please follow the instructions within the application. We prefer that the transcript be official if possible, but an unofficial transcript is sufficient. Also, please do NOT send us your official score reports directly from the testing organization. You can scan the mailed score report you received or submit a copy of your online score report. Please note: We cannot accept any materials sent through the postal mail. Either you or your counselor can submit these materials via the Secondary School Report form. 5. Complete the QuestBridge Application.

3 Keep in mind that the application includes essay questions, short answer questions, and detailed questions about your academic performance and financial background, so leave yourself plenty of time to complete the best application you are able to. 6. Submit the QuestBridge Application by September 27. The National College Match application deadline is September 27, 2013, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. All of the application components are also due on September 27, including: Two teacher recommendations Secondary School Report (counselor recommendation) Transcript Test score reports School profile (recommended but not required) 7. Make sure that the checklist on your Application Management page is complete. All received materials will be viewable on this checklist. After the Application Deadline 1. Submit your College Match Rankings by October 14. After the application deadline, it will be time to choose which of our partner colleges you want to rank for the College Match. You may choose up to 8 colleges, or you may also choose not to rank any colleges (this will make you eligible to apply to our Partner Colleges for Regular Decision only. For more information on this, please see the Regular Decision Process page). Your rankings should be in order of preference, with your first college choice as number 1. Important: With the exception of 4 schools (MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale), the match process is binding. You should only rank colleges you would want to attend if selected for a scholarship. "Binding" means that if you are admitted to a college through the College Match, you will be required to attend that school. Learn more about our early application policy. Your rankings must be submitted through your Application Management page by October 14, 2013, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. 2. Submit your Match Agreement Form by October 14. Your rankings will not be considered official without your Match Agreement Form. The form states that you understand the terms of the College Match process, and colleges will not consider you for the Match unless this form is submitted. The Match Agreement Form will be available on your Application Management page after your rankings have been submitted. The form must be signed by you, your high school counselor, and a parent or guardian, and then either scanned and uploaded or faxed to QuestBridge. 3. Look for your finalist notification on October 22. QuestBridge notifies applicants of their finalist status via their Application Management page. You will be notified regardless of whether or not you are a finalist. If You Become a Finalist

4 1. Submit all College Match Requirements for Finalists by November 4. Each of our partner colleges has additional requirements you must submit in order to be considered for the College Match scholarship. See College Match Requirements for Finalists for more information. 2. Rearrange rankings by November 5 (if necessary). If the order of your college rankings preferences has changed, you may re-arrange the order of your college rankings by November 5 if you wish to do so. You will not be able to add any new schools to your rankings at this point, but you may re-order your list of colleges or remove colleges. If you choose to change your rankings, you must also submit a new Match Agreement Form by November 5. More about the "match" process. QuestBridge sends the applications of students selected as finalists to our partner colleges for their review. Partner colleges ultimately make the final selection of scholarship recipients from among the finalists. Partner colleges select the students they would like to admit with College Match scholarships, and QuestBridge then matches those selected students with the highest-ranked college on their list that has also admitted them. A student will only be matched with one college. When a match is made between a finalist and a college, the agreement is binding (with the exception of MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale, which are not binding). Matched students must withdraw any other college applications that they have submitted. Match Notification 1. Your notification will be posted to your Application Management page on December 2. QuestBridge notifies all finalists who ranked colleges of their College Match status on December 2. Because our partner colleges only offer a limited number of College Match awards, not all finalists will be matched. It is important to remember that not being matched is NOT the same as being rejected by the schools on your rankings list! Every year, many students are admitted through Regular Decision at schools where they did not match. 2. Automatic Regular Decision Consideration: Please note that finalists who have ranked and submitted all the required application materials to the following colleges during the College Match process and did not match with a binding college will automatically be considered for admission at: Caltech University of Chicago Carleton College Columbia University Dartmouth College Emory University Grinnell College Princeton University University of Notre Dame University of Pennsylvania University of Southern California University of Virginia Vanderbilt University Vassar College

5 Stanford University Yale University Tufts University In some cases, you will need to submit a mid-year school report or other additional materials. Check each school's list of Regular Decision requirements to ensure you have submitted all required materials. If you do not want to be considered for admission to these colleges, you will need to contact the appropriate admissions offices to withdraw your application. If you have been admitted to a school (either a QuestBridge partner or a non-partner school) through a binding decision program, you must contact the appropriate admissions offices to withdraw your application. 3. Some QuestBridge partner colleges offer the opportunity for students who ranked their college and are not matched with any college to be considered for Early Decision or Early Action. There is a small window of time during which you may request to be considered for Early Decision or Early Action at ONE partner college. Please see each individual partner's College Match Requirements for Finalists page for more information. 4. Finalists who are not matched are encouraged to apply to our partner colleges through the QuestBridge Regular Decision Process. Please see Regular Decision Requirements for more information.

6 Application Process: QuestBridge Regular Decision Admission through QuestBridge's Regular Decision process is not binding and does not come with a guaranteed financial aid package; however, because all of our partner colleges are committed to meeting financial need, many finalists are admitted to our partner colleges each year with very generous financial aid. More than 1,600 QuestBridge applicants were admitted to our partner colleges this year through the Regular Decision process, and were able to attend their school very affordably. You may apply to our partner colleges through the QuestBridge Regular Decision process if you: Apply to the National College Match but do not rank colleges. Rank colleges for the National College Match but are not selected for a College Match scholarship. There are many benefits to applying to our partner colleges through our Regular Decision process: Our application. Applying to our partner colleges as a QuestBridge applicant identifies you as a high-achieving student from a low-income background, which automatically sets you apart from the standard pool of applicants. Also, our application is designed to showcase your achievements in light of the challenges you have overcome, and allows you to present a fuller picture of yourself than standard college applications. No application fees. There is no fee to apply to QuestBridge. In addition, if you become a finalist, application fees to all of our partner colleges are waived. Access to any number of our partner colleges. Applying to our partner colleges through the Regular Decision process means you can apply to as many of our partners as you like. Non-binding agreements. Applying to our partner colleges through the Regular Decision process is non-binding, meaning if you are accepted, you have a choice of whether to attend that school. A note about applying to QuestBridge for the Regular Decision process only: If you apply to QuestBridge but do not rank colleges, you must still submit your application by September 27. If you become a finalist, the application fees to all of our partner colleges are waived. You may apply to as many of our partner colleges as you like, but you must also adhere to each school's individual submission requirements and deadlines. Once your application is sent to the partners you indicated for the Regular Decision process, you will hear from the schools directly regarding your admission status. Applying to our partners through the Regular Decision process does not make you eligible for the full four-year guaranteed College Match scholarship; however, many students who are admitted to our partner colleges through the Regular Decision process are still awarded very significant financial aid. Finalists who are not matched through the College Match are encouraged to apply to QuestBridge partner colleges through our Regular Decision process. It is important to understand that each college is only able to offer a small number of College Match scholarships. If you are

7 not matched with any of the colleges you ranked, it is NOT the same as being rejected by the colleges. It simply means that the college decided not to admit you early with a guaranteed full College Match scholarship. The QuestBridge Regular Decision Process 1. Submit the QuestBridge National College Match application by September 27. For complete information on the application process, please see the National College Match application process page. 2. Look for your finalist notification on October 22. QuestBridge notifies applicants via their Application Management page of their finalist status by the end of the day Pacific Time on October 22. You will be notified regardless of whether or not you are a finalist, even if you did not rank colleges for the College Match and are only applying for Regular Decision. 3. In December, select the partner colleges to which you would like to apply for QuestBridge Regular Decision process on your Application Management page. Regular Decision forwarding requests must be made between December 2 and December 12 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. 4. Review the Regular Decision Requirements and submit materials by each school's deadlines. Each school has additional materials and application components you will need to submit in addition to having your QuestBridge application forwarded. (You may need to submit additional materials even if you ranked a college for the College Match process.) These requirements are due by the individual college's Regular Decision deadlines. Some schools require you to fill out and submit the Common Application in addition to the QuestBridge application, so please review this information carefully for each school you are applying to through the Regular Decision process. View the Regular Decision Requirements page. On this page, you can also learn more about which schools will automatically consider you for Regular Decision if you rank them but are not matched. Please note that there may be different requirements for finalists versus non-finalists. 5. Wait to hear from the colleges directly. Colleges contact you directly to inform you of their admission and financial aid decisions according to each school's own timeline, typically in the spring.

8 QuestBridge Match: Early Application Policy The National College Match is a binding, early admission program similar to Early Decision. In traditional Early Decision programs, a student can apply to only one college through Early Decision, and if admitted, agrees to enroll at that college and withdraw applications to other colleges. Under the College Match, students can select up to eight QuestBridge partner colleges that they rank in order of preference. If admitted to one of their ranked colleges with a College Match scholarship (i.e. "matched"), they agree to enroll at that college and must withdraw any other college applications.** Students can only be "matched" with one school: the highest ranked college on their list that admits them with a scholarship. Because of the binding nature of the College Match process, applicants must abide by the following policies: College Match applicants cannot apply to other colleges through Early Decision, Early Action, or Single-Choice Early Action (also known as Restrictive Early Action), even if all the schools ranked are non-binding schools. Think of it this way: QuestBridge is a doorway to many selective colleges, each of which has their own early application policy. Applying to QuestBridge and another early program therefore violates the policies of many of our participating partner colleges. College Match applicants may simultaneously apply to other colleges through those colleges' Regular Decision (non-binding) processes. Please note that students who apply to the College Match but do *not* rank colleges, or who are not selected as finalists, are not subject to any agreements with QuestBridge and are free to apply to any colleges for early or regular decision. Finalist notification is on October 22, **With the exception of four non-binding partner colleges: MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale. For these schools, matched students are not obligated to attend the school, and may apply to other schools through Regular Decision and wait until the spring to decide where to enroll. Exceptions to the QuestBridge Early Application Policy: Students may apply to any college or university that requires an early application for eligibility to special scholarships or programs, as long as the admissions decision is nonbinding. Students may apply to their home-state college or university with a non-binding early application option, as long as applying to QuestBridge does not violate that college's policies. Students may apply to any college or university with a non-binding rolling admission process. 10 2012 National College Match Recipient Profile In 2012, 383 applicants received admission and full scholarships through the College Match. While tables and charts cannot express the personalities and diversity of the College Match scholarship recipients, these figures provide an overview of their academic achievements and demographics. A collection of charts and figures does not convey the individuality of these students, but an overview of the academic achievement and socio-economic diversity of this group is noteworthy. Of the 4,518 National College Match finalists: 72% were among the first generation in their family to graduate from a four-year college in the United States. 19% were 1st in their class. 71% were in the top 5% of their class. 13 Acceptance Rates Completing an application for the QuestBridge National College Match requires an investment of time and effort. You may wish to assess that investment in light of the information below. QuestBridge's partner colleges evaluate QuestBridge applicants based on the same criteria that they use for other applicants. The number of QuestBridge applicants accepted by each of our partner colleges will differ each year. One way to evaluate your chances of acceptance by one of our partner colleges through the QuestBridge National College Match is by looking at the program's track record as shown in the following table.
