1 3rd German Norwegian Energy Conference The German Energiewende and the Future of the German Norwegian Energy Cooperation DNB Oslo December German Norwegian Chamber of Commerce

2 PROGRAM Registration Welcome Norbert Pestka, Managing Director, German-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce Dr. Axel Berg, German Ambassador to Norway Moderator: Anders Bjartnes, Norsk Klimastiftelse Introduction Germany s Energy Future Dr. Dorothee Mühl, Deputy Director General, Energy Department, Germany s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology The German-Norwegian Energy Cooperation Ane Hansdatter Kismul, State Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Energy Coffee Break Panel 1: Energiewende The German Energy Revolution Germany s energy system is going through radical changes. Closing down nuclear power plants while increasing the share of renewable energies, leads to major challenges in the field of energy supply. Germany s goals are ambitious: Within 2050, the green house gas emissions are to be reduced by 80 percent compared to Further, 80 percent of the power used is to come from renewable energy resources. In this first panel, we will get an overview of the German energy revolution, including advantages and challenges. One important issue is how the established energy companies such as E.ON, RWE and Stadtwerke München are adjusting to the new system. Introduction Jochen Homann, President, German Federal Network Agency Comments: How are the energy companies adjusting? Jan Taschenberger, Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Development, E.ON Dr. Florian Bieberbach, Chief Financial Officer, Stadtwerke München Volker Stehmann, Public Affairs, RWE Discussion Lunch Panel 2: Security of Demand and Security of Supply The role of Norwegian gas in the German energy mix Today, a large part of Germany s energy comes from fossil resources such as oil, charcoal and gas. With the ambition to close down all its nuclear power plants by 2022 and to increase the renewable share to 80 percent within Although being a non-renewable energy resource, natural gas is given an important role in the European energy mix, replacing charcoal and as a balancing power to renewable such as wind and solar. However, it is important to discuss both the security of demand that is the European and German market for natural gas and its position in the energy mix, as well as the security of supply. How can Norway provide security of supply? Introduction Andree Böhling, Energy Expert, Greenpeace Germany Comments Mike Diekmann, Director Gas Purchase West, VNG Verbundnetz Gas AG Michel Myhre-Nielsen, Manager Communication Natural Gas, Statoil Dr. Ludwig Möhring, Managing Director, WINGAS GmbH Discussion Coffee Break Panel 3: Maximizing renewable energy production The need for balancing power Wind and solar energy are inconsistent energy resources, leading to a need for balancing power when the wind isn t blowing and the sun doesn t shine. In this panel, we will see how Norwegian hydro power can be one solution, as Germany s green battery. In 2018, the new interconnector between Germany and Norway is expected to be finished, opening for new opportunities and strengthening the supply security in both countries. Introduction Ingard Moen, Vice President International Business Development, Statnett Comments Tore Tomter, Head of Division Renewable & Fossil, Siemens Steinar Bysveen, Executive Vice President, Generation and Industrial Ownership, Statkraft Andree Böhling, Energy Expert, Greenpeace Germany Trygve Østmo, Executive Director, Federation of Norwegian Industries Discussion Concluding remarks by the moderator: The future of the German-Norwegian Energy Cooperation Reception hosted by the German Ambassador to Norway 2 German Norwegian Energy Conference 3

3 Bayerngas Norge Bringing Energy to Europe A changing Europe Sweeping changes in the energy sector are currently underway on the European continent. Germany is phasing out nuclear power while investing heavily in renewable energy, making the future energy mix uncertain. What we do know, however, is that natural gas is going to play a crucial role during the next decades a fact also acknowledged in the EU s Energy Roadmap The shareholding companies of Bayerngas Norge are energy companies located in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. They invest heavily in Norway for three reasons: First, they wish to participate in the entire value chain, thus becoming more independent. Second, they know that the Norwegian gas supply is both stable and secure. Third, they want to reduce Germany s dependence on Russian gas. Norwegian access to the German energy market is strengthened through gas produced by Bayerngas Norge. We are one of the fastestgrowing oil and gas companies on the Norwegian shelf. Today, we have an average daily production of more than 15,000 barrels of oil equivalents. Bayerngas Norge is ambitious, has a long-term perspective and a clear mission: Bringing Energy to Europe Bayerngas Norge is an independent petroleum company with offices in Oslo, and operations on the Norwegian, Danish and British continental shelves. Today Bayerngas Norge produces from five fields, with an average daily production of more than 15,000 barrels of oil equivalents resulting in an annual turnover of close to 3 billion NOK. Bayerngas has 80 highly-qualified employees and is owned by municipal energy companies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Bayerngas is an operator on the Norwegian continental shelf and A good climate with natural gas For more than 20 years, we have enjoyed close ties with our Norwegian trading partners. In future too, we will be expanding the German-Norwegian natural gas partnership so that natural gas from Norway can be used for climate-friendly energy supplies in the long term. Apart from its role as a natural gas importer, VNG AG makes a significant contribution through its participation in natural gas exploration and production on the Norwegian Continental Shelf via our subsidiary VNG Norge AS. In addition, we support dialogue between the two countries in education and research as well as in the field of art and culture. in the UK. 7 Von: Magdalena Neuner An: E.ON Betreff: Grüner Strom Wenn Strom immer grüner wird, kann sich das dann noch jeder leisten?
