2 A Golden Opportunity amfar s inaugural Hong Kong gala, held in March 2015, was a resounding success. Hong Kong-based actress and amfar Ambassador Michelle Yeoh received special recognition for her exceptional contributions to the global fight against AIDS. Gwyneth Paltrow served as Honorary Chair and Event Co-Chairs included Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, and Naomi Campbell, among others. Leading Hong Kong businesswoman and philanthropist Pansy Ho chaired the event, which raised more than $4 million for amfar s lifesaving work. The evening featured an outstanding performance by Robin Thicke and a spirited live auction conducted by legendary auctioneer Simon de Pury. Memorable Moments Archie Kao Gwyneth Paltrow Kenneth Cole and Kevin Robert Frost Longtime amfar supporter Leonardo DiCaprio donated a surprise auction lot two seats at his personal table at the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Gala in St. Tropez in July, plus an invitation to relax on his yacht the following day. After a lively round of bidding, four different guests offered $250,000 each, for a total of $1 million. A hauntingly beautiful oil painting, titled Friend, by renowned Chinese artist Jia Aili spurred a frenetic round of bidding, which quickly soared to a sale price of $550,000. Robin Thicke rounded out the evening, getting the audience on their feet with his chart-topping hits Blurred Lines, Give It To You, and Magic, and a rendition of Michael Jackson s Rock With You.
