3 It is a pleasure to introduce CDET s 2014 UK Guide. CDET extends warmest greetings to its longstanding colleagues, and a special welcome to first time readers. The following pages highlight institutions which make an enormous contribution to the sustainability and international profile of the UK creative industries, a contribution we both support and celebrate. CDET, in its role as the quality assurance body for the professional dance and musical theatre industries, works hand in hand with its Accredited and Validated members to ensure courses and assessments remain at the forefront of current industry trends, and address employers' real world needs. Together, we share a joint commitment to the advancement of outstanding artistic performance. We realise that the performing arts sector offers a range of opportunities for professionals and students alike to progress towards their goals. To this end, CDET now supports Affiliates in developing the highest standards within their Access to Professional Training, Continuing Professional Development and other relevant programmes. At whatever stage, in terms of aspiration and career development, individuals find themselves, CDET works to ensure quality provision is available. Further, CDET makes every effort strongly to represent members views when lobbying employers, education authorities and regulators. The fact that CDET's Board draws on the industry expertise of such organisations as Equity, Society of London Theatre, UK Theatre and international dance companies, makes us ideally placed to influence important decisions affecting the dance and musical theatre worlds. Supporting the performers, students and teachers of tomorrow, we ensure that professional training and rigorous assessment remain at the forefront of arts provision nationwide. We at CDET look forward to working with you to make 2014 another memorable year! Glyndwr Jones Director of CDET
