4 It s in our nature 4 Quality, efficiency, quickness and service In its factory installations, the company has great transformation areas with organized layouts, as well as wide areas for loading/unloading and packaging the finished product. Equipped with various technological innovations, all the stages of the company s production process have been automatized during the last few years. This includes, besides state-ofthe-art sawing and cutting equipment, a series of special equipment, such as water-jet cutting machines, diamond wired cut-off machines, and polishers with numerical control. This enables executing precisely all types of special works. This constant search for quality has been favoured by the acquisition of technologically evolved equipment, which reduces the possibility of error to a minimum. Human effort and rather unhealthy work conditions - very characteristic of other companies in this sector - do not take place at Incoveca since the technological level of our equipment enhances our workers production potential, allowing for more effective quality control. Incoveca has implemented EC marking since it meets the requirements of the European directives. Our production and quality control procedures are in accordance with European standards. The company s structural growth has been accompanied by the training of its specialized staff in various areas of the production process. Thus, it has implemented a quality policy in all its manufacturing stages. This reduces possible flaws in the final product.

6 It s in our history 6 For historical reasons, Portugal s development has a strong relationship with stone as a construction element. It is portrayed in its historical monuments - many times millennial - which are spread throughout the country in military, residential, and religious monuments. In Portugal, the contact of the populations, throughout the centuries, with the constructions built basically based on locally exploited stone, as well as their wide availability and abundance as a natural resource, created a strong popular culture around the use of these materials. Extracting and transformation methods were developed that survived the passage of the centuries. At the beginning of the XX Century, with the increase in the country s industrialization, cutting and polishing equipment began to be used in the processing of ornamental stone, transforming Portugal into one of the largest producers and consumers of this construction material during the second half of the last century. To this day, the Portuguese industries are considered the worldwide reference suppliers for the ornamental stone market both due to their technological capacity, as well as the variety of the materials of Portuguese origin.

8 It s in our culture The architectural elements that characterise villages, monuments and historic centres of the oldest cities of Portugal, where granite, limestone, marble and schist/slate are intensely used, are a strong factor of identification of the populations with what is a physical representation, accessible to all, of Portuguese architecture and culture. In all the continents where the Portuguese passed through, initially as a cultural colonizer and later, as emigrants, they left an indelible trace of this tradition of respect for ornamental stone as construction elements. This can be seen in everything that was left behind as permanent construction - residential or monumental - in the locations of the Portuguese diaspora. Examples of this reality are the Portuguese stone sidewalks in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Madre de Deus Church (Ruins of São Paulo) in Macau, China, the Pombaline downtown, in Lisbon or even the village of Sintra. 8

10 It s in our progress The ornamental stone transformed in Portugal currently performs constructional functions in new and modern buildings spread out throughout various continents. These functions are both of a technical and structural nature, as well as decorative. 13 The Company Founded in 1979, Incoveca began its activity exclusively geared towards the civil construction and public works industry. However, it quickly directed its activity to the ornamental stone manufacturing sector, building its first factory unit. Since its inception, the company has understood the importance of the interaction between the extracting and transforming sectors. It started prospecting, licensing and exploiting several granite quarries in its region. Incoveca evolved technologically, gaining market share both in Portugal, as well as in various other countries. Between 1993 and 1996, it acquired, respectively, the industrial units in Mundão and Caparrosa, thus, expanding its range of products by manufacturing in series calibrated grinded and bevelled 1 cm thick granite tiles, as well as customized-cut works in granite, marble and limestone. Thus, the company s structural growth culminated in the formation of the largest Portuguese group dedicated to the extraction and transformation of ornamental stone. 13
