4 Introduction - Across the United States we are vulnerable to any number of geologic, meteorological, biological, accidental, and intentional events and incidents. The better you are prepared to cope with these disasters, events, or incidents the better you and your organization will be to recover and move forward. In 2013 there were nine weather related disasters 1 that caused an estimated $1 Billion dollars each in losses. In addition these disasters killed over 100 persons, they were a combination of six severe weather events, two major flood events and the Western drought and heat wave Billion Dollar Weather Related Disasters In June of 2014, Kiplinger 2, released a report of the top ten Disaster States In the eight year period between these were the top ten states in estimated property loss insurance payments, also included are weather related fatalities; 1) New Jersey - 87 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 26.4 Billion Dollars 2) Texas 313 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 23.7 Billion Dollars 3) Tennessee 224 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 5.1 Billion Dollars 4) Missouri 346 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 5.0 Billion Dollars 5) Alabama 333 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 4.9 Billion Dollars 6) Oklahoma 162 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 4.5 Billion Dollars 7) Mississippi 88 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 4.3 Billion Dollars 8) Louisiana 66 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 3.9 Billion Dollars 9) Colorado 70 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 3.7 Billion Dollars 10) Arizona 93 Weather Related Fatalities with an estimated property loss of 3.5 Billion Dollars U.S. Department of Labor 3 estimates over 40% of businesses never reopen following a disaster. 5 Fisk Consultants (FCG) - Understanding the real need for a Business Emergency Management firm that assists small to mid-sized businesses in all aspects of emergency response operations, Fisk Consultants was established in With a mission and goal to provide assistance to our clients in the development, facilitation, and implementation of personalized plans for Business Emergency Management systems.
