11 COMPRESSED FAST-TRACK PROGRAMS Compressed fast-track programs are designed specifically for applicants with existing academic credentials and present a unique opportunity to complete diploma requirements in fewer semesters. BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (TWO SEMESTERS) Become familiar with and gain the skills needed to install, test and maintain today s advanced medical equipment. Access to opportunities for technical practice including hands-on experience and project-based learning. Includes four-month work placement component. Biomedical engineering; dialysis; engineering; medical engineering; or medical technologist. Field service or technical service representative. Installation; nephrology; or service technician. Technical consultant. BIOTECHNOLOGY ADVANCED (TWO SEMESTERS) CHEMICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (TWO SEMESTERS) Gain training and experience in handling, analyzing, monitoring and processing chemicals. LAW CLERK ADVANCED (THREE SEMESTERS) Intake: May 2016 MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION (TWO SEMESTERS) Gain the skills and knowledge required to inspect, examine and test modes of transportation and large structures to detect possible internal or external defects without causing damage to their future use or well-being. Graduates will be prepared to take the certification exams administered by the Canadian General Standards Board. Aerospace, automotive, railway or shipping companies. Defence and military. Oil, gas and petrochemical companies. Power generation and utilities. Service and inspection companies. PHARMACEUTICAL AND FOOD SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY (TWO SEMESTERS) Receive training in product development, analysis of food and processing operations. Gain hands-on experience in methods and instrumentation. Includes minimum 80-hour work placement component (honours BSc applicants may apply for credit). Manufacturing, administration, marketing or sales in food, pharmaceutical or cosmetic industries. Quality control, research or development laboratories. Extensive training in the theory and practise of law and advanced computer techniques. Focus on traditional and specialized areas of law. Includes 140-hour field placement component. Please note: successful completion of a Paralegal program accredited by the Law Society of Upper Canada (since 2008) is required for entrance into this program. PICKERING LEARNING SITE: Operated in partnership with Centennial College. Offers four DC graduate certificate programs in addition to continuing education courses on evenings and weekends. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Our Oshawa and Whitby campuses are located in the heart of Durham Region, just 40 minutes east of Toronto and our Pickering Learning Site (PLS) is located 25 minutes east of the city, just north of Highway 401. All three locations offer access to sports, entertainment, education and music and are close to Canada s leading business and cultural centre. Come to where you can ski, snowboard, hike, walk, bike, windsurf, sail, fish and more within 30 minutes of campus. Of course if you prefer the indoors, you can always visit one of the many shopping malls and/or restaurants located in Durham Region or check out one of the theatre or concert events that happen on a regular basis. WHITBY CAMPUS: Award-winning Skills Training Centre, a leading facility in preparing apprentices and skilled trades students for a wide range of trades positions. Recently completed a three-phase construction project that saw $44 million invested in an expanded presence in Durham Region designed to develop new programs and grow the skilled workforce needed for our local communities to prosper. Includes the 36,000-square-foot Centre for Food (CFF), which opened in September 2013 and can accommodate approximately 900 students studying in culinary, hospitality, tourism, agriculture and horticulture programs. The CFF offers: Bistro 67, a full-service, green-certified teaching-inspired restaurant and lounge. Pantry, a retail food store featuring fresh-baked items, mealsto-go, preserved foods and ready-to-cook meals prepared in-house. A lecture theatre equipped with a convection oven, gas stove, induction stoves, deep fryer, griddle and grill as well as overhead cameras and large-screen projection. Public-viewing kitchens equipped with the latest culinary technology. A greenhouse, vegetable gardens and fruit-bearing trees. State-of-the-art labs including a hotel living lab and food and beverage pairing lab, classrooms and meeting spaces. 13

14 FINANCIAL AID AND AWARDS OFFICE Before you crack open your first book, you have to figure out how you re going to pay for it and everything else that goes along with your education. The Financial Aid and Awards office is here to help you with money matters including budget counselling, on- and off-campus employment and student grants/loans from the Ontario Student Assistance Program. It also offers bursaries, scholarships and emergency aid in case your funds get low. E: RESIDENCE AND MEAL PLANS After a long day of working hard in class, you ll need a comfortable place to unwind. E: STUDENT ACADEMIC LEARNING SERVICES (SALS) Making the leap from your previous school or returning to college after a break can be a big adjustment but it doesn t have to be a tough one. And don t forget about our quiet study rooms located across campus to help you get that extra bit of focus you need to finish that last assignment. Take advantage of the centre s services so that you can take control of your education. E: A successful student can t work on an empty stomach, which is why DC offers a variety of meal plans to suit your appetite. CAMPUS RECREATION AND WELLNESS CENTRE (CRWC) AND ATHLETICS They say a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. If that s the case, then the state-of-the-art CRWC should have you completing your classwork in no time! In addition to five gyms, a 10,000-square-foot fitness centre, squash courts and elevated indoor walking/jogging track, you can hit the rink at the Campus Ice Centre or take to the clay courts at the Campus Tennis Centre. 15 HOW TO APPLY STEP 1 Review your program s admission requirements Each graduate certificate and compressed, fast-track program has specific minimum educational requirements that you must possess in order to apply. Please visit each program s web page (listed in green in their description on pages 12 to 13) for current admission requirements. STEP 2 Check the application deadlines: September-start programs: Sunday, February 1, January-start programs: Friday, May 1, May-start programs: Friday, January 1, STEP 3 Go to the Ontario Colleges Application Service (OCAS) website at and select your program(s). Complete the application by following the steps identified on the OCAS website. STEP 4 Send any other required documents (as identified on the program s web page) to the Strategic Enrolment Services office at 2000 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, ON, L1H 7K4 by the deadlines indicated above. STEP 5 Once you have applied, you may check the status of your application on the OCAS website or on the MyCampus portal. 15
