8 G E N E R A LRules 1. All rules as stated in The Garden Club of America Flower Show & Judging Guide, 2009 revised edition, shall apply. 2. All classes are open to members of GCA clubs. Class VI, Click on Greenwich, is the only class open to non-gca members. 3. Registration is required for all classes. An entry form must accompany each accepted entry. 4. Prior to the juried selection of the photographs, the committee must pass each digital entry. The committee reserves the right to refuse any entry that does not conform to the schedule. 5. Photography entries are limited to subjects consistent with Garden Club of America interests such as horticulture, floral design, gardens/landscapes, conservation and the environment, historic preservation, civic improvement and the natural world. 6. Identification of plant material is not required but encouraged wherever possible. The common and botanical names, if included, are to be placed on the entry form on the back of the photograph. 7. While The Greenwich Garden Club will exercise due caution in safeguarding exhibit, responsibility for damage, loss or personal injury cannot be assumed. 8. A novice is an exhibitor who has not won first place in the division entered or at a GCA or GCA Major Flower Show. A novice exhibitor will be identified by a green dot placed on the top of the entry form following judging. 9. Photographs that have won first place or a special award in a GCA show may not be entered in competition again. A photograph that was previously entered and did not place first, may be entered again if the image is altered and newly printed. The same photograph may only be entered in one show at a time. 10. An exhibitor may submit only one entry per class and have up to two entries in the entire show. If space is available at the deadline another entry may be possible. 11. This includes cropping of the image, enhancement for color of clarity, removal of a part of the image, combining images, or distorting the original subject. 14. Creative Manipulation Class V: The intent of a creative image is to transform an original subject for artistic effect, where the effect dominates the image to the extent a viewer will easily recognize that the image does not attempt to depict reality. A. Entries in this class must display unusual characteristics suggested by, but not limited to, abstraction, alternative media and techniques, camera movement, chemical or physical manipulation, digital manipulation and creation, experimental techniques, impressionism, multiple exposure, collages, etc. Simply using unusual angles, extreme close-ups, direct capture of abstract subjects, or depicting unusual situations as the basis for the creative element does not qualify an image for this category. B. All images and image components must have been taken, created, or generated by the member. Inclusion of images from outside sources or created by other parties is prohibited. C. A 4 x 6 photograph of the original image must accompany each entry in Class V. -6-
