1 Sustainable. Innovative. In the Copenhagen Region.
2 Vinge A new sustainable town in the capital city region in Denmark Vinge is a unique project in Denmark. The sustainable town of the future. Frederikssund Municipality is constructing Vinge on a green field site. It gives Frederikssund Municipality an exciting opportunity to secure the ambitious town development project. A completely new sustainable and smart city, which will be constructed on a green field site with its own S-train station, large business areas and an infrastructure that is future proof. Vinge is the largest town development area in Denmark. It consists of 370 hectare. In comparison it is 10% larger than Ørestaden in Copenhagen, which is 310 hectare. When Vinge is fully developed there will be space for residents and approx jobs. In Vinge there is also plenty of space for commercial enterprises, which can be established in both the area of Haldor Topsøe Park in Vinge North and in the vicinity of the station in Vinge Center. Frederikssund Municipality is aiming to create energy-symbiotic co-operation between the various enterprises in the municipality. It will improve the competitiveness by reducing the consumption of resources, increase re-cycling and thereby improve the environment. As new mayor, but experienced local politician, I find that it is a great privilege to undertake the establishment of a new town in collaboration between the Danish Parliament, local politicians, institutional investors and some of Denmark s most knowledgeable professionals. John Schmidt Andersen Mayor, Frederikssund Municipality
3 Vinge is going to be the foundation for future types of energy and sustainability concepts through co-operation with national and international enterprises, that develop smart grid and smart city solutions. Frederikssund Municipality has focus on the competitiveness conditions of companies and offers optimisation of the individual company s energy, waste, production technology and consumption of raw materials as well as the individual company s opportunity for growth through Symbiose Frederikssund. Vinge is close to the motorway and will have its own S-train station, so it is easy to get to Vinge both by car and public transport. Vinge is half an hour from Copenhagen, which is one of Northern Europe s metropolitan cities. Vinge is also close to several international research facilities, e.g. Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (Denmark s Technical University) in Risø, Roskilde University and Copenhagen University. It is Frederikssund Municipality that has taken the initiative for the development of Vinge. Frederikssund Municipality wants to create the modern town of the future in Vinge where town life, sustainability, business and innovation all work together. 2 Sustainable. Innovative. 4 Infrastructure in and around Vinge Gilleleje The infrastructure around Vinge is already functioning and is even in the midst of a major development. A completely new bridge link from Frederikssund to Hornsherred will be completed in The exit from the new bridge is located near Vinge. An access to the bridge will be established from Vinge. It is designed so that it can immediately handle traffic when the expansion of Frederikssund motorway is completed. The expansion policy has been passed by Parliament and the financing is expected to be in place soon. Right now, the road is a wide expressway, which offers good opportunities to connect to the E20, E47 and E55. Hundested Hillerød Helsingør It takes under an hour to get from Vinge to Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup. 60 airlines fly from the airport, and there are flights to 140 destinations in total, 24 of these are intercontinental Frederikssund VINGE s Slangerup Ølstykke Farum Vinge will, as one of the few towns in Hovedstadsområdet (the capital city region), get a new S-train station. As part of the traffic agreement in 2014 DK55 million have been set aside for a station in Vinge. It was agreed after a lot of hard work by Frederikssund Municipality. In addition, funds were set aside for a new turningtrack at Enghaveplads Station in Copenhagen, which means that the travel time for the S-train to Copenhagen in the future will take half an hour. Jyllinge Roskilde Værløse Stenløse S-tog Måløv Smørumnedre Ballerup Herlev Glostrup Albertslund Taastrup København Regionaltog Metro Concurrency plays a substantial part in the development of Vinge. That the station and the first town development takes place at the same time is of enormous importance to the establishment of the town. Vinge Station, the motorway and Fjordforbindelsen (the fjord link) and the short distance to the airport confirms the strategically good location of Vinge. In Vinge several main roads for cars will be constructed and they will be connected to the surrounding road system, making it easy to get to and from Vinge. It is crucial that a good road network is established in Vinge for vulnerable road users, making it easy, fast and safe to walk and cycle in Vinge. 5 Vinge will be a smart city Vinge will be a sustainable town The interesting thing about Vinge is that it is a completely new town so it can be done correctly from the very start. Bas Boorsma Director, Internet of Everything for Cities Building Vinge as a smart city makes it possible to create a town that can adjust to the needs of the future and technological solutions. A smart town can optimise consumption, maintenance and solve problems before they arise. But an important part of being a smart town is that it is a town that is a good place to live. Every day will be easier and simpler for residents and businesses. One condition for a smart town to function is that there is a stable and well-functioning high-speed network so that all the data that is generated can be processed further through the system. It is a big advantage for businesses and residents in Vinge that really good and wellfunctioning internet has been secured. Frederikssund Municipality has made an agreement with the American IT company Cisco. Cisco work with what is called Internet of Everything (IoE). Internet of Everything is about connecting people, data, processes and items via the internet. Cisco is one of the leading companies in its field and it is a unique opportunity for Vinge to be a part of the agreement with Cisco. It gives Vinge an international interest as Vinge is one of the only green field projects that Cisco is a part of. Data collection and smart towns can bring people and machines closer together, but the data that is generated can also be used to service the residents. (Global Practice), Smart+Connected Communities, Cisco Sunstainability plays an important role in Vinge, both in relation to energy, economy and social sustainability. Vinge will be constructed to fit into Denmark s Energy Strategy, where the goal for 2035 is 100% conversion to sustainable energy for all electricity and heat production. All buildings are constructed as low energy or passive buildings and are supplied with the small amount of energy that they require through de-centralised heat pumps, solar energy, solar cells, energy storage and flexible consumption. There will be no district heating, so Vinge will be a fully electrified and smart grid-ready city, which is ready to interact with the fluctuating renewable energy sources from wind and solar, which constitute an increasing share of Denmark s electricity production. We are creating a completely new town for both residents and business. The sustainable solutions are at the forefront in Vinge as a natural part of life in the town, like nature intended. Frederikssund Municipality supports this in both the planning and development. In Vinge we want the right sustainable solutions from the beginning. Tina Tving Stauning Chairman of the Technique and Environment Committee A part of the development of Vinge as a sustainable town is about creating an energy system, which is created in co-operation between Frederikssund Municipality, the supply companies and private stakeholders. We have a unique opportunity to ensure that Vinge will be secured for the future and can develop in harmony with whatever development there will be in the future. Claus Steen Madsen Director of technique, environment and business 6 Sustainable. Innovative. In the Copenhagen Region. Sustainable. Innovative. In the Copenhagen Region. 7
6 The overall plan for Vinge The goal for Vinge is to create a town where it is easy to work, play and live. The center of Vinge will be the Green Heart of the town, a town common which is located in the center of the town Vinge. It is in and around the Green Heart, that the life of the town primarily is. Schools, institutions, shops and cafes will be here. Even the S-train station is a part of the Green Heart. Vinge North In the northern part of the new town Vinge is the business area of Haldor Topsøe Park. A business area with focus on sustainability, clean technology, high technology and industrial symbiosis. Frederikssund Municipality is aiming for companies with a green profile, who will work in a network with other companies. Therefore Frederikssund Municipality in Vinge offer companies to be part of a strong network with companies like Topsil. Topsil Semiconducters has established their headquarters in Vinge. In Vinge there is room for both large and small companies which will become big. Erhvervsrummelighed i Vinge // august 2014 Kortet er ikke målfast As a business you will have the advantage of all the qualities in Vinge. This is valid whether you are located in the northern part of Vinge, Haldor Topsøe Park, or near the center of Vinge and Vinge Station. The master plan for Vinge testifies to a vision of creating a place where nature and urbanity meet. 7 Vinge Center and Vinge Station Vinge Center will be the most town-like area in Vinge. Vinge Center is close to the station and it is here the first shops, offices, and apartments will be constructed. It will all contribute to a lively town center in Vinge, where residents, those who work in Vinge, children and visitors meet in the common green areas between the buildings. To start with there will be sq.m. with mixed functions in Vinge Center. Vinge Center is in and around the Green Heart. Vinge Station, which is a part of line C and H on the S-train network, is very central in Vinge Center. The goal for Vinge Station is to create a unique station, which is completely integrated as a part of Vinge. In May 2014 Frederikssund Municipality launched an international architect competition with regard to the design of Vinge station and Vinge Center. Centrally in Vinge Station is a bridge across the tracks that will connect to the Green Heart. The station will merge accessibility, high traffic service level and a recreational natural environment and a town. In the same way that New Town was a new concept after the second world war, Vinge is a new concept now. Vinge has the privilege of being green field in the strictest sense of the word, which allows you to organise a town with a symbiotic relationship between business and residences in a fantastic nature and with an excellent infrastructure. 8 The Delta district The Delta District is the first residential area that will be developed in Vinge. The Delta District will be close to Tvinsmosen. We aim to create an area, where nature will play a part in a town. The Delta District, like the rest of Vinge, must be sustainable. The Delta District must be an area with closeness and a sense of community between the residents. The Delta District r must be varied, so that it is an experience to view and move around the architecture. The construction is close-low which means that the buildings have two storeys. All the houses in the Delta District will have a view of nature. Some houses have private gardens and others have large green common areas. Rainwater and handling of rainwater plays an important role in the shape of the landscape. The volumes of rainwater is an increasing problem, so handling of rainwater is something that should be included in all planning. In the Delta District we have a system where the water is visible and gives the area identity. The Delta will be established early and will be a recreational waterway with edges that are planted so that they look natural. During periods of heavy rain the water will fill all the branches of the Delta. The children can sail their toy boats in the water. During dry periods the waterways will be like tracks in the landscape and only the main artery will be filled with water so you can use a kayak here.
