2 Course Description Ever wonder how you create the pages that you see on the Internet? This course will introduce you to the basics of creating HTML5 and CSS web pages. Students will use a simple text editor to generate HTML5 and CSS code. Basic topics such as text formatting, cascading style sheets, graphics, image mapping, links, lists, tables, forms, embedding sound and video files, publishing and debugging pages will be covered in this course. This course has eight modules involving readings, Web-page creation assignments, discussions, postings, collaborate sessions, and online quizzes. Students will complete the course with a solid grounding in the basics of HTML5 and CSS code. As one of the possible electives for the Technical Writing Certificate program, this course will address some of the Web issues related to Technical Writers and prepare Technical Writer to create HTML5 and CSS pages. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Design and organize a web page. 2. Give a page some structure. 3. Write HTML5 and CSS code using a simple text editor. 4. Create inline, embedded, and external css. 5. Save and view a page. 6. Create a basic Web page with basic tags. 7. Format the text on a page. 8. Add an aligned graphic to a Web page. 9. Add decorative horizontal rules. 10. Add an image map. 11. Modify a page with text and page tags. 12. Link pages. 13. Create and modify lists. 14. Create and modify tables. 15. Add sound and video files to a page. 16. Create and modify forms. 17. Publish a Web page. 18. Debug a problem on a Web page. 19. Use a text editor. 20. Attract users to a site. Images, and Embedded Style Sheets 4. Creating Tables in a Web Site. Using an External Style Sheet 5. Creating an Image Map 6. Creating a Form 7. Multimedia Content 8. Special Feature 1: Attracting Visitors, Marketing and Pricing Please note: this course schedule may change as resources and circumstances require. Student Evaluations This course is Chapter-based. Assignments 80% Quizzes 10% Participation (Chat and Discussions) 10% Total Marks = 100% A minimum grade of 60% is required to pass the course. 4 Tests and Assignments Assignments must be submitted on or before the "due date", as directed by the instructor. Late submissions, without valid reasons (such as illness or emergency) or without prior arrangement may be penalized by the instructor, normally at 10% per day, or as announced by the instructor. Days of lateness will include weekends and holidays. If for valid reasons, an assignment/evaluation cannot be completed on time, then a reasonable penalty-free time extension may be given by the instructor. Claims of illness or other emergencies may have to be documented, if required by the instructor or the administration. Advanced notice by is required if you are going to miss a test and supporting documentation must be submitted. If you miss a test without prior notice due to illness or some emergency, you must provide the reason in writing to the instructor within 3 days of the missed test. If your reason is accepted by the instructor and the college, arrangements will be made for you to write the test. Grade Report, Transcript, and Certificate Upon completion of a course, student access to grades can be obtained online by logging onto the Myhumber website at using the Humber issued username and password. Students may request an individual piece of work or the final course grade to be reviewed within ten (10) business days of receiving the graded evaluation.
