1 The Links Incorporated Historically Black Colleges & Universities Community College Collaborative Application Information Program Overview In an effort to increase student success and graduation from both community college and Historically Black Colleges & Universities, The Links Incorporated has partnered with J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College (JSRCC) and Virginia Union University (VUU) to establish the Links Scholarship Program as part of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Community College Collaborative. Participants in the program will receive the following benefits: VUU Student Identification Card Use of VUU Libraries and Other Learning Services Attendance at VUU Athletic & Social Events Assistance Completing Financial Aid Application at JSRCC Career & Personal Development Workshops Internships Priority JSRCC Dual Registration at VUU Discounted Enrollment Fee for Dual Registration Courses at VUU VUU Student Discount Card Scholarship Opportunities (see page 2) Eligibility Requirements JSRCC students interested in the HCBU CC Collaborative must meet either of the following criteria to be considered for participation in the program: New Students Returning (or Currently Enrolled) Students 2.5 High School Grade Point Average 3.0 Grade Average at JSRCC Completed Application Completed Application Enrollment in Program that will Transfer to Virginia Union University Enrollment in Program that will Transfer to Virginia Union University Satisfactory Interview Satisfactory Interview Signed Letter of Intent Signed Letter of Intent United States Citizen United States Citizen Participation is open to any community college student meeting the above criteria. A minimum of twenty five (25) students will be selected to participate. Selections will be made on a rolling basis. It is expected that

2 participants will participate in all events provided by The Links Incorporated, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, and / or Virginia Union University. Failure to do so may disqualify students from participation. Scholarship Opportunities The following scholarship opportunities are available to participants in the program. J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Virginia Union University $500 Need Based Scholarship (Renewable for no more than three years. Students must Incentive Grant $2,000 Requirement: 2.5 GPA complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Academic Merit $4,000 Requirement: GPA Academic Merit $5,000 Requirement: GPA Presidential Scholarship $13,314 and up to $1,000 Book Award Requirement: 3.8 or higher Presidential Honors $15,000 and up to $1,000 Book Award Requirement: Requirement: 3.8 or higher Awarded upon successful transfer. All VUU scholarships are renewable annually Program Requirements Students are required to participate in all sponsored activities. Additional Information For the spring 2014 term, applications should be completed and submitted by February 14, Applications received after this deadline will be reviewed on a case by case basis, provided space within the program is available. The members of The Links, Incorporated are influential decision makers and opinion leaders. About Virginia Union University Virginia Union University was founded in 1865 to give newly emancipated slaves an opportunity for education and advancement. The University is the result of the merger of four institutions: Richmond Theological Seminary, Wayland Seminary, Hartshorn Memorial College, and Storer College. About J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College was founded in 1972 to serve the capital region in and around the City of Richmond. Since then, Reynolds has grown into the third largest college in the Virginia Community College System, enrolling students at three major campuses, at 5 off campus sites, and "virtually" through distance learning. The College currently offers 24 two year occupational/technical degree programs, 9 occupational/technical certificate programs, 5 twoyear college transfer programs, and 43 career studies certificate programs requiring less than one year of full time study. Having enrolled more than 275,000 persons in credit courses since its opening, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College continues to strive to meet the aspirations of its namesake to provide a practical and economic answer to the future educational needs of thousands of...virginians.
