3 User Documentation These release notes contain important information about KODAK DLS System Management Software 2.1 LP (DLS Software). Please read this document before using the DLS Software. The user documentation for the DLS Software is in online Help. To access Help from the DLS Software, select the Help on the right side of any main window. Use the Contents tab to view the entire Help, or use the Index tab or Search tab to find a specific keyword or error message. Limitations System page 1 Printer page 2 Film Scanner page 2 User Interface page 2 Orders page 4 Preview page 5 Prints page 5 Image Quality page 6 Error Messages page 6 Printer page 6 System Startup Failure Backup & Restore Software The DLS Software can fail to start when the service technician exits the software to access the WINDOWS Operating System Desktop and then restarts the software before all the processes shut down. If this occurs, restart the DLS Software. Backing Up a Nonexistent File - The backup function does not warn you when it attempts to back up a nonexistent file. October

4 Stopping a Backup - Do not stop a backup while the data is being written. Doing so requires you to restart the Backup & Restore Software before you can do another backup. File Formats Yes/Start on Keypad Preview and Select The DLS Software is compatible with TIFF, JPEG, BMP, PCD, and FPX file formats that are 8-bit RGB color. You cannot select Yes/Start on the NORITSU Keypad from the Custom Order and Picture Package Order windows. The KODAK Picture Maker refers to the KODAK Picture Preview Center as Preview and Select; the terms have the same meaning. Printer Printer Status Window Print Jams The DLS Software may not refresh the Printer Status window. Go to another window and then go back to the Printer Status window to refresh it. The DLS Software may not be notified of a print jam if it is caused by the last print in an order. Clear the print jam to continue printing. Film Scanner AMC-II Slide Gate Redundant Alarms Automatic Dust and Scratch Removal Preview & Jog - Preview and Jog is not supported with the AMC-II slide gate. Replacing the AMC-II Gate - Replacing the AMC-II slide gate with a different gate after a slide jam does not cancel the order created for the AMC-II slide gate. Delete the AMC-II slide gate order from the WIP window. Attempting to scan more than the maximum number of images allowed in an order results in redundant alarms. Automatic Dust and Scratch Removal is normally applied when scanning reversal film. When scanning KODACHROME Film, deselect AUTOMATIC DUST and Scratch Removal to avoid undesired effects due to the relief image. User Interface Print Choices The Print Choice dialog box available in Key Operator and Service Operator modes is different from the Print Choice dialog box available in General Operator mode. There are more filter buttons in General Operator mode. 2 October 2004

5 Order Summary Picture Packages Backprint Color Edit Values Default Address for KODAK Picture Center Online Retry Settings Lighting Correction Buttons Print Scanner List Pressing Yes/Start on the keypad while displaying the Order Summary processes the current order. Backprint Text - When you create a new picture package in Key Operator mode, the backprint text is not recorded. Defining Picture Packages - In Key Operator mode, products that have not been installed are available when you are defining a picture package. However, they are not created as a product in General Operator mode. Titles Do Not Display - Picture package titles do not display on the Picture Package Setup window in Key Operator mode. Occasionally when you make changes in Key Operator mode, the picture package names may not reappear. Restart the DLS Software to clear this condition. Picture Packages Created in Key Operator Mode that Require Text - If you create a picture package in Key Operator Mode that requires text, an error message appears stating that you did not enter text. Click OK in the message, and create the text from the order screen when you create the order. The backprint color edit values do not represent the number of button presses when the Image Color Adjustment values have been modified in Key Operator mode. The actual numbers in the backprint are in whole-button increments. This is an issue only when the values in Key Operator mode are in increments other than whole numbers. The default address set in the KODAK Picture Center Online window in Key Operator mode does not appear on the order window. Retry Timeout - The Retry Timeout (secs) setting on the Network Management window may not match the retry time. Retry Count - Do not set the Retry Count to 0 on the KODAK Picture Center Online window. Doing so requires that you restart the DLS Software before the Retry Count can be changed to something other than 0. Selecting the Lighting Correction buttons on the Lighting Correction window sets the correction. Selecting the buttons a second time does not cause any action. Select Reset to undo these corrections. The print scanners appear in the Select Source list in the order in which they were installed. The list does not indicate which print scanner is currently selected. October

6 Orders WIP File Export Archive Orders CD Orders Network Orders Customer ID Digital Media Orders Scan Error - A scan error may occur when you delete an order from the WIP shortly after selecting Process for the order. File Export Drive - You will not receive an error message if the drive configured for File Export does not have enough free space. When configuring File Export, make sure that the dedicated drive has enough free space to avoid disk full issues. The DLS does not manage these external drives. Images with the Same Name - The File Export function overwrites images with the same file name. When you use File Export, remove the images from the designated drive before you export the new images with the same file name. This only happens if it is the same folder name (order number) and the same file name. File Export Write Failure - You can select the Retry button that appears after a File Export Write failure; however, it does not correct the failure. This button is used for a retry with CD authoring after changing CDs. Makeover Button Unavailable - If you make over an archived order creating a second archived order, the Makeover button becomes unavailable. You can continue processing other orders, but you cannot do another makeover order until you restart the DLS Software. CD Authoring Locks Up - CD authoring can lock up when it occurs after a File Export order with multiple operations such as Pause/Resume/Makeover that were applied either frequently or rapidly. Z Drive - The Z drive utilizes 80% of its space for incoming network orders. Settings for Incoming Network Orders - Settings for incoming network orders depend upon the Preview and Select setting (Immediate or Delay) on the Network Management window. This lets the DLS avoid WIP full errors and control the workflow. If a Customer ID has 64 or more characters, the characters are added in the information box below the archive list. Do not enter more than 63 characters for a Customer ID. Processing digital media orders can cause an error message stating that there is not enough space to complete the order. File Export to the X drive can cause this error to occur when drive space becomes limited. Delete unnecessary files to free up more drive space. 4 October 2004

7 Print Scanner Orders Auto-Initiate Restarting Paused Orders Auto-Initiate Scan Resolution Single Button DPOF The DLS does not send a message that an order had more than 100 images from a print scanner when it processes the order. Only the first 100 images are processed. Selecting Auto-Initiate on the Custom Order window does not activate it on the Picture Package window, and selecting Auto-Initiate on the Picture Package window does not activate it on the Custom Order window. Select Auto-Initiate on the order window you are using. Restarting paused orders causes all of the requested outputs to be generated regardless of the orders that have already been generated. For film orders using Auto-Initiate with Archive selected, if you did not enter the Customer ID, you must select Start after entering the Customer ID. For digital orders, the scan resolution is not used even though it is available as an option when defining a picture package with digital input. You cannot disable the Single Button DPOF option on the System Default window. Preview Orders with 40 or Fewer Images Preview and Select Orders with the KODAK Picture Maker Color Restoration Borders & Text Window Preview and Select can process orders with 40 or fewer images; however, do not archive orders with more than 40 images when you use Preview and Select. Preview and Select orders can be a problem if the wrong protocol is set in the KODAK Picture Maker. The KODAK Picture Maker should always be auto-configured to the DLS and must be set to In Preview mode, selecting Color Restoration resets all previous edits. In rare cases, the Borders and Text preview may not display correctly. Go to a different window and return to the Borders and Text window to refresh it. Prints Backprinting Filmstrip Titles - Some titles from APS film do not print on the front and back of the prints. Serial numbers - The APS camera serial number from the MOF data is not included in the backprinting. October

8 Date and time - The date and time does not format correctly on the back of the prints but does format correctly on the front. Index Prints Titles - Titles from APS film are not printed on the index print. Black Borders - When you select black borders for prints and you have a media mismatch, the DLS prints black borders on the index prints. Image Quality Master Balance Defaults Underwater Correction or Color Restoration Red Eye Correction Color Adjustments The Master Balance Defaults (color and density) set in Key Operator mode are applied to film orders only. Applying Underwater Correction or Color Restoration to an image scanned from color reversal film causes the image to rotate to its original orientation. Automatic and Manual Red Eye - Automatic red eye and manual red eye may not yield the same results. Assisted Red Eye - Undesirable results can occur when you use assisted Red Eye correction. Check the preview image to make sure that the correction is acceptable. Automatic Red Eye Removal - Automatic red eye removal corrections are different between print sizes. Occasionally the red eye detection is different for 8 x 10 in. and 4 x 6 in. images. Setting the Cyan color adjustment to a large amount such as +8 or +10 can cause an unusual color cast on the print. Error Messages "Order Queuing Failed" - Deselecting prints after the order reaches Preview causes a error while processing the order. Process the order as a makeover making sure to accept at least one image for printing before processing the order "Order Queuing Failed" - Make over of an archived order that consists of an index print only for output causes a error. Select at least one image to create a print to complete the index print request. Printer The computer and the printer cannot communicate if the DLS System Software language does not match the Operating System locale. Follow the instructions in the Help to change the operating system locale. 6 October 2004
