1 YOUTH FOR CHRIST TANZANIA AND ZANZIBAR Our History Youth for Christ was officially registered under Societies Ordinance (reg. SO No ) in 1987, in Mwanza Tanzania mainland. And the official name, under which youth for Christ operates in Tanzania, is Tanzania Youth for Christ (TYFC). Although TYFC was successfully registered for quite long time, yet it remained unproductive and had no ministry activities running due to poor strategies implemented. Having had a clear call to join YFC, in July 2010, Pascal & Esther Nyulahe and their twins moved from Zanzibar to Tanzania mainland where they are currently implementing various programs of TYFC at the national level Board of trustees TYFC board consist of 9 people - Chairperson, Deputy-chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer together with other 5 delegates. The national coordinator of Tanzania YFC is also an ex officio appointment to the board. Our Vision As part of the body of Christ, to see that every young person in every people group in every nation has the opportunity to make an informed decision to be a follower of Jesus Christ and become a part of a local church Staff and Volunteers We have 8 volunteers staff country wide and 27 others - 8 volunteers in Mwanza, 5 volunteers in Kigoma and 14 volunteers in Zanzibar. Our Objectives To raising and training staff and Youth leaders who are culturally relevant to local youth ministries To implement youth ministry that is characterized by Generation 21 principles To mobilize and develop effective disciples and disciple makers in Tanzania YFC, and enhance their ministry skills Our national program includes the following Ministry Activities Evangelism and Discipleship Leadership Training School outreaches Worth the wait Abstinence Program/(HIV/AIDS) Leadership Development Life Skills (Challenges facing the Youth in the Post-Modern error) Prisons Visits Prayers Sport ministry Music & Dance ministry Evangelism to Street children and many more.

2 MWANZA CHAPTER This is our house in Mwanza. My family and I stay here; it s in this home all of Tanzania Youth for Christ s admin work is done. We also use our home to host youth meetings, prayers, discussions, small scale trainings, and other official meetings with the board members. It s small but this is what we can afford for now. They are working in Mwanza YFC on voluntary basis And next is our official Tanzania YFC logo With the Worth the wait Abstinence Program/ (HIV/AIDS), our aim is to educate and challenge young people to commit themselves to sexual purity. We thank the Lord that some of them have responded positively and about 18 students of Nyabulogoya high school in Mwanza pledged to commit themselves to sexual purity. It s our prayers that they will remain true and faithful. We reach out to schools; we offer life skills to high school students and work with difficult kids in both government and private schools.

3 YFC KIGOMA CHAPTER Geographical position and the Situation in Kigoma Kigoma is located at the beach of Lake Tanganyika in the western part of Tanzania. It s one of the less privileged regions in the country. Poor service delivery, poor education, witchcraft (voodoo), Ancestral worship and poverty are some of the challenges. Young people are uncertain of their future lives. It s also the region most affected by the refugees from Rwanda, Burundi and Congo. Youth for Christ views this situation as an opportunity to serve these innocent poor young people. We have therefore, taken a step of faith to begin reaching them with the gospel through various activities that are currently on. We have 6 volunteers working in Kigoma. Our aim therefore is to come alongside young people and be part of their transformation process by means of offering vocational trainings and Christian education in order that, we may equip them for life. We trust the Lord for the provision of funds to purchase a land and build a training center in the near future. Below is YFC ministry in Kigoma chapter. 4 YFC ZANZIBAR CHAPTER History of Zanzibar Located a mere twenty miles off the coast of East Africa, the tropical Island of Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of mainland Republic of Tanzania. It comprises of an archipelago of many small islands, besides the two main ones, Pemba and Unguja, and was once a separate state with a long trading history within the Arab world. Zanzibar was famous worldwide for its spices and its slaves. It was East Africa's main slave-trading port, and in the 19th century as many as 50,000 slaves were passing through the slave markets of Zanzibar each year. About 80,000 Africans died each year before ever reaching the island. The United Kingdom's early interest in Zanzibar was motivated by both commerce and the determination to end the slave trade. In 1822, the British signed the first of a series of treaties with Sultan Said to curb this trade, but not until 1876 was the sale of slaves finally prohibited. Strong Holds in Zanzibar The spirit of Islam, the curse of blood shade and slavery, witchcraft, young ladies get married to demons (jini), high rate of divorce and polygamy, ignorance, ancestral worship, high rate of homosexuality and Lesbianism, paganism, drug abuse and the spirit of poverty. 5 Work started We stepped in by faith and today we have ongoing weekly youth activities whereby youth from different churches around Zanzibar town gather together in a hall or at somebody s home. They engage themselves in prayers, evangelism in rural areas, Gospel music concerts, Bible studies and giving themselves to social activities. For long time now youth gathering has been taking place in different styles and in unsafe premises. There is still wide opportunity to hold public meetings and other Christian youth events of some kind on the island. Much could be achieved if we had our own premises where we operate from.
