3 HEALTH PROFESSIONS (EKG) ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY TECHNICIAN Course Code: DSAE 1040 CEUs: 7.0 An EKG Technician performs EKG testing, coordinates Holter monitoring and performs stress tests in a hospital laboratory, doctor s office or clinic. This course provides instruction in EKG unit operation and troubleshooting, lead placement utilizing 12 lead EKG, use and understanding of EKG grid paper, recognizing normal and abnormal EKG patterns in all 12 leads and plotting EKG axis. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will receive our Certificate of Completion. Additionally, graduates will be qualified for the optional certification examination offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). MEDICAL CODING Course Code HITT 1005 & POFM 1000 This course includes the fundamentals of learning medical terminology and more advanced study of anatomy and physiology with its applicable terminology. Includes an in depth study of the major body systems and medical specialties along with various diagnostic studies and procedures. Students will then learn the presentation and application of basic coding rules, principles, guidelines, and conventions utilizing various coding systems. The student will learn to accurately code procedures and diagnosis, abstract information from health records for appropriate code validation, and apply decision making skills to ensure proper sequencing. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible to take the national certification exams with various agencies: AAPC (Apprentice CPC A), AHIMA (Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or NHA (CBCS) Certified Billing and Coding Specialist. CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT (CMA) Course Code: MDCA 1060 CEUs: 29.4 A Clinical Medical Assistant can pursue employment as a healthcare professional in a physician's office or clinical setting. Clinical Medical Assistants assist with procedures, caring for patients, performing simple laboratory tests and administering medications. This program provides an excellent training opportunity for anyone with a desire to work in the thriving healthcare field helping people. Graduates will be qualified to take the optional certification examination for medical assisting offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) and the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE (CNA) Course Code NURA 1001 & 1060 CEUs: 10.8 Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) work under the supervision of a nurse and provide assistance to patients with daily living tasks. They work closely with patients and are responsible for basic care services such as bathing, grooming and feeding patients, assisting nurses with medical equipment, and checking patient vital signs. CNAs give patients important social and emotional support and provide vital information on patient conditions to nurses. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible to take the Texas Skills Examination and the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam. PHARMACY TECHNICIAN Course Code PHRA 1001 CEUs: 18.2 As a Pharmacy Technician, you will help the pharmacist package or mix prescriptions, maintain client records, refer clients to the pharmacist for counseling, assist with inventory control and purchasing, as well as collect payment and coordinate billing. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion, become eligible to apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician in their state, and be prepared to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. 3
4 PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN Course code PLAB 1023 & PLAB 1060 CEUs 17.8 Beginning February 20 (Tentative) Phlebotomy technicians work in hospitals, physicians offices and other facilities. Duties of a phlebotomy technician may include drawing blood, preparing specimens for storage or testing, assembling equipment and verifying patient s records. A phlebotomist may also conduct patient interviews and screen donors at a blood bank. Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible to take the national American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) exam. MEDICAL OFFICE ADMINISTRATION ONLINE Course Code POFM 1017 CEUs: 9.6 This course includes instruction in medical office procedures including appointment scheduling, medical records creation and maintenance, telephone communications, coding, billing, collecting, and third party reimbursement. Students will study advanced concepts of medical office activities, practices and procedures to include advanced medical reports; review and analyze scenarios in a medical office; prioritize activities to complete tasks in a timely manner; make decisions regarding composition, format, placement, grammar, word choice and punctuation to produce mailable documents, and reflect employee appropriate verbal communication skills in conflict resolution. CPR FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS Course Code CE 8512 CEUs: 0 Learn lifesaving skills of respiratory (choking and near drowning) and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and infants. This course meets the requirements of the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. DIETARY MANAGEMENT The Dietary Manager s Certification Program offered through Temple College is a three part program designed for food service employees in health care facilities. The curriculum covers the overall management of health care food service. Students are eligible for Student ANFP (Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals) membership and graduates of the program are eligible for active ANFP membership and the Dietary Manager s Credentialing Exam. This program also meets regulatory requirements for training of food service supervisors in nursing facilities and provides the ServSafe Food Safety Certification.
